If you knock against the wall, the wall will knock back.
If you fall off your bet in a thud, you'll hear it again.
This was what the stories of the Echo wolf told. A sound that would make you feel as if you were never alone at night. No matter how safe you were, with the echo wolf, you could never be alone.
At the middle of the night, Fishy meditated. He did so to help relax, but even as he was about to enter the dream world, he knew he had to stay awake. He jolted himself awake at each fall of his head as he expanded the range of his sensory magic, covering the whole town in his magical aura. Even the slightest movement of dirt would be known to him. He listened out for any noise that would echo in his mind. however, the noises he often heard were ones that were repeated, but these were not of the same exact pitch as the echo wolf has been known to replicate.
He didn't know how long he waited for. One minute felt like an hour and he would have claimed that a day had passed, except it didn't. Only 5 minutes had passed since he started his lookout and he was already bored to death. His form fell apart as he gave up meditating and moved to reading. He scanned the books that were given to him on arrival but quickly found himself bored with reading the same texts over and over.
And so, he moved to a different past time, magic practises. He stood in the centre of the room with his aura spread around, protecting the village, seeing just how far he could spread it. He expanded the range of his aura far and wide as far as he could display it. After being told that his aura was well hidden, he wanted to experience it for himself. But, what Fishy didn't know was that he was almost exposing himself to the whole world. His aura spread far and reached all the way to the City of Va and even to the druid's forest in the opposite direction to Va.
Had his magic had any ill-intent, no one would be able to sleep. All creatures would have accepted their fate, assuming their heart hadn't already stopped. But his aura was rather kind and warm. Perhaps it was due to his tiredness that made it feel secure. But everyone that was absorbed in the aura couldn't feel it. Instead, everyone simply slept with smiles on their faces and were granted dreams that would remind them of joyous times they would never want to forget.
"Stop expanding your aura." Lilith slapped Fishy as she jumped out of his shadow.
"Sorry…" He retracted it to only surround the village.
"There were probably a few mages that noticed the aura but seeing as it was very calm they probably weren't skilled enough to pinpoint your location."
"I'll keep that in mind for next time…"
Fishy and Lilith sat awkwardly in silence. Fishy being alone with a girl was going to be awkward no matter what world he was in. In his previous world, he lacked the experience to deal with girls. Although he may seem fine with the female villagers, he has to mentally prepare himself every day and Lilith knows his exact routine.
He wakes up early morning and washes his face when telling himself jokes and complimenting his brain for coming up with them. He then proceeded to eat breakfast whilst doing some breathing exercises to calm the social anxiety that tries to creep up every now and then. After he's done with that, it's out into the village to say hello to people. As a warm-up, before talking to the pretty girls, he speaks to either the triplets, Tim; Tam and Tom, or he speaks to a male first.
With the two of them still in silence together, there eventually come a time where something strange had entered Fishy's aura. A large creature, unlike anything that was there before, randomly appearing in the centre. As if it had teleported into the village.
"It's here," Lilith said as she sat up, climbing over Fishy as she ran out the door.
