"Hey wait, up!" Fishy called out as he ran across the entire village, entering a new section that he hadn't seen before as it was built during his time at Tanba. He followed behind Lilith's red clothes and chased her till she stopped behind a bunch of wooden planks. Several buildings in the area were still incomplete and the various materials and tools were still lying around waiting to be used. With logs and large piles of bricks just lying around, it was perfect for hiding.
"Why'd you stop?" Fishy said as he carefully approached.
"Shush. Look." Lilith dragged Fishy's head around the side and pointed at the creature that was emitting a gentle blue glow from its fur. But the creature was far from gentle. Layered in thick black fur as sharp as a katana. As big as one of the buildings that trapped it in the village. Saliva dripping from its mouth as a tiny knock is heard from inside the only built house in the area. Shortly followed by the echo wolves perfect mimic.
"It just recreates the noise without moving?"
"Must be magic…" Lilith waited for a chance to attack. The opportunity was to arise eventually but she wasn't certain as to when. And it frustrated her.
"Come on…" Her patience was limited. She was a person who didn't like waiting for the perfect opportunity and would try to turn any moment into the perfect opportunity. But with something she knew nothing about, she could only wait.
The echo wolf repeated the next knock and the sound of the person inside waking up. From the footsteps on the floorboards as the man approached the door to the sound of his terrified breathing on a cold night. He approached the door, curious of what was on the other side and swung it open with force, as if trying to catch it off guard. As the man that lived there stared into the yellow eyes of the echo wolf, Lilith jumped into action.
She leapt high like a cat and landed on its back. It started to fight back and throw her off, letting out a piercing howl that alerted the whole area to its presence, but it was trying to escape. It's dark fur slowly becoming transparent as it attempted to warp away. The scared man backed away into his house as Fishy runs out to backup Lilith.
"What's the plan!" He screamed.
"I'm going to try and drain it!" She said on the bucking wolf. One that was getting angrier and angrier.
"Drain it? Is it made of magic?"
"I don't know!" Lilith continued to be thrown about as her hands emitted a red light. Her magic allowed her to not only transfer her own life to others but also transfer their life to her. It made perfect sense for a creature made of pure magic to be destroyed by such a skill. But Lilith on her own wasn't enough. The echo wolf was created by magic that was bigger than she was. She wouldn't be able to handle the amount of mana the echo wolf would give her. Her body wouldn't be able to take it, her heart would explode if it even went over by 1 small drop of mana. A curse that is only caused by powers like hers.
"Let me help!"
Fishy darted and jumped next to her, kicking her off.
"What are you doing!" Lilith screamed as she attempted to climb back on. "I can do this!"
"You've saved me many times already. Plus, this thing is in my village, it's my problem. Trust me"
Lilith surprisingly stopped her charge and decided to agree to Fishy's words. Standing by as she watched the man that saved the village several times already and performed above her expectations.
As Fishy held on for his life, with the echo wolf screaming in pain, almost escaping out the village. Fishy gripped it's fur coat tightly and thought back to what the elder told him about his power. One that apparently could recreate any magic he had seen. Even if he didn't know how to do it, he had done it before with the Destroyer.
"I got this…" He said to himself as he closed his eyes, imaging the same magic that Lilith used. As he did, his hands started to glow as red as Lilith's did. The red light continued to grow but showed no signs of stopping, waking up the villagers to a blood sun.
"Amazing…" Lilith shielded her eyes as she couldn't watch without going blind. "He can use vampire magic..."
The wolve's screams became harsher and harsher as pain is brought upon it. It's fur falling off and turning to dust before it touches the floor. With the whole body of the wolf, eventually turning into silence.
"You did it…" Lilith said amazed, ready to jump into Fishy's arms but her celebration was cut short but the sound of people approaching, causing her to hide in Fishy's shadow.
"Was that the defeat of the echo wolf?" The elder said as he stepped out in his small green pyjamas
"Yes… I think it's gone, for now at least."
"Truly amazing. Where did you learn magic like that?"
"Oh, you know how you said my ability was Plagiarize? Well, I guess I just saw someone use that magic and copied it."
"I see…" The elder spoke as if he knew about the world. As if he had seen every inch of every island and knew the true mysteries of the world. Fishy laughed at his rather overconfident expression that seemed as if he knew what was going on from the start.
"So it's over?" Clara came out with her pink bedhair defying gravity. "The Echo wolf is gone."
"I guess so… That was over rather quickly?"
"Let's just hope we have time to let Fishy rest. Don't you agree?" The elder turned to Clara who secretly hid a list of things that she needed Fishy to do by tomorrow morning.
"I guess…"
