As Jakob placed his palm on the flat surface of the large stone a blue hue of light shined from inside the stone. This was the normal process in which every new comer would go through.
Anyone who places their hand on the stone recieves an ID tag. If you were to die in this world the stone would recieve that you are dead and display a message that could be perceived by others. The message says no more than the person's names and that they have died. The cause of death is never told. The board is constantly filling with more names as the day goes.
As Jakob placed his hand on the flat surface of the stone the blue hue brightened and quickly generated a line if numbers. This line of numbers was the dwelling number. Shortly after showing the number, a small silver metal plate on a length of chain appeared in his hand. On the plate was engraved the number of his dwelling. Ryder continued to do the same thing.
After receiving their dwelling numbers both set off to their dwelling. As Ryder got to his dwelling he realized he was only a few blocks away from where Jakob's dwelling was.
"Come on Ryder! We got places to go, and things to do." Jakob shouted to Ryder
"Give me a few minutes, I gotta get situated and prepare to go out the gate. Go find out the fastest way to the gate from here." Ryder shouted from the other side of the heavy wooden door that led in and out of his dwelling.
"Ok, I got directions from some passerbys. Are you ready yet." Jakob said exhaustingly to Ryder.
"Yeah, I just got a few more straps and I'll be all good." I said as he double checked everything.
"Finally, what took you so long?" Jakob asked, not looking at Ryder
"Sorry, I had to get comfortable with what I am wearing." I explained
"What?" Jakob said turning around. "What are you wearing," seeing Ryder wearing two forearm guantlets, a cuirass, and wielding a dagger." And why do you ALWAYS have a dagger or knife?"
"I use a dagger because it's one of the most versatile weapons. It's small, compact, and easy to wield compared to other weapons. Such as your five foot sword. Especially in small spaces like caves and dense forests." I explained, seeing Jakob still did not understand, and did not care
Seeing a bag on my back Jakob quickly stopped and grasped my shoulder saying, "Ryder, what is in the bag?"
"hmm, it's nothing...." I said holding back a smirk of fear and happiness that wanted to stretch from ear to ear
"WHAT IS IN THE BAG, RYDER!?" Jakob said with clear frustration on his face.
"It's nothing, really. It's just my colaspable how, some folding arrows, pressure explosives, ya know. The stuff we need." I said slowly fading out my volume near the end. The frustration on Jakob's face went from a five to fifty in a matter of seconds. The rage in his eyes burned like red stars, on the brink of going supernova and exploding.
"WHY DO YOU ALWAYS NEED TO BRING F'ING EXPLOSIVES, EVERYWHERE YOU GO?" He said with anger following behind
"Because they are fun and useful. There's no problem that can't be solved with the proper application of explosives." I responded.
"Put them back in your dwelling," Jakob ordered as a followed with "I can't have you tripping and blowing our names onto the death board. Atleast let me die from fighting a second rank beast, rather than any of your stupid mistakes."
