"You gotta keep up if you want to beat me out of the gate!" Jakob shouted to me, who was falling behind in stamina.
"Maybe you should slow down. Take a breather for yourself." I struggled to say, while catching my breathe from the half mile jog that started at my dwelling and would end at the castle gate.
As I ran I bumped into a couple of me. "Watch were your going." Was what most of them said, but there was a large group that I had directly ran into, knocking multiple people over like dominoes. Clear frustration and zero tolerance showed on their faces. I quickly got up, apologized, and thought nothing of it.
Though that was my first mistake. Though at the time I didn't know it. I continued on towards the gate to catch up with Jakob.
"Finally, what took you so long? Your consistently not on time, like ever." Jakob said exhaustingly
"Sorry, I just dominoed a group of people a few blocks back. Plus it's not always my fault."
I said in return.
"Ok, ok let's just get going. People are constantly killing the beasts and I don't want to wait for more spawn. You know we're on a time crunch, right? We only got two weeks here before we gotta get back to school." Jakob complained
"Yes, I know. I was at the same pep rally you were. Where should we head to first. I got a small map of the area, but I don't know how useful it'll be." I questioned, already knowing where I wanted to go. But want to involve Jakob's opinion I asked anyway.
"Let's head over the 'Desolate Canyon,' I hear there's been a lot of D ranked hard shell ants lately. A few people even received their existence fragments. Along with that I heard the fragment is an armor.' Jakob said happily, while pointing at the map.
"Really? Some armor would be really good for later fights. Especially against anything that's fast with claws." I replied.
"Full body armor would also prevent against slashes and strikes from others swords." I thought to myself, preparing for conflict with others.
"Ok, we'll head there first to get armor and experience. But afterwards I want to go fight some D and C rank predators over in the forest. Maybe something that flys aswell." I suggested.
"We'll head to the canyon first and then go hunt in the forest. Sound good." Jakob quickly replied
"That is literally what I just suggested." I returned with discontent
As we made our way towards Desolate Canyon we heard many beast and had actually interacted with some. What was said about the beast having u ordinary strength was true.
A large dog like beast with three eyes had pounced on Jakob. This left both us in shock. Jakob had his sword at the ready luckily. He used the sword to block the dogs attacks, while I used my daggers to pounce on it and subdue the beast.
After much unneeded screaming Jakob was up and free from the attack. His wounds were minor except for a large cut that flowed down his back. I quickly dressed the wound and secured the bandages.
As the beast passed it had released a loud howl. When the howl was released we heard another howl quite distance away. We knew inside that more beast would come, but what did we do. We sat and attempted to recover. That was the mistake.
It wasn't long after Jakob's pain eased that we saw another three eyed dog beast, likely of the same rank. Though it did not immediately attack. Instead it looked at us and then backwards. At the moment it turned it's head several more beasts appeared side by side.
I told Jakob to run immediately. Though he was stunned and could not move. In that moment I turned and grabbed Jakob. I bolted towards the canyon. Hoping other hunters would help.
It wasn't long before I reached the canyon. unexpectedly though there was only one group of hunters. Though they looked as though they could handle the problem quite easily.
I ran shouting," There's a horde, RUN." A few of the hunters turned and saw the horde of atleast thirty beasts rushing towards them with me leading the way.
The fighters turned their attention towards the beasts. They quickly designated the beasts. After strenuous fighting they turned towards me and Jakob. The rage in their eyes burned like miniature sun's. Their glares sent shivers down my spine.
