Chapter 8 - New World, New Rules. (5)

On the 3rd floor of the hospital, there is a wide room that has its wall coated with white paint covered in transparent glass acting as display panels.

A woman wearing a white coat over her nurse uniform is standing near a machine in the center of the area operating its control panel. She moves carefully as she glances at the device that has the shape of a pod and an interior where a fully grown human can lie in comfort.

If Quin is right here, he will recognize the lady as the nurse that was on duty the moment he just woke up.

"Alright, the medical pod is now ready for full activation. Now I just need to apply for a primal box for it to perform its full features."

She walks outside the room, going straight to the Doctor's laboratory building waiting for permission.

When the world first discovers primal crystals 1500 years ago, they never knew it was something that will drastically change everything as they know it.

It was first used as decoration because of its beautiful appearance as a glowing crystal by royals and aristocrats. They reveled in ignorance, without knowing the energy it contains because of its inert state and nature as an anomalous dark matter.

It all changed when a group of like-minded nobles and craftsmen discovered its violent reaction after being accidentally involved in a budding scientific experiment at one of their saloon gatherings. This event signified the end of the civilization's medieval age and started the renaissance of primal sciences.

While more people are discovering the crystal's wonder. There was a sudden group of people appearing out of nowhere, demonstrating a simple but mature way of using primal crystals. They spread the knowledge of its uses and assert that the form of a crystal is just its outside manifestation.

They claim that the world they live in is full of this energy, and controlling this energy is the same as mastering the power to control the world.

From Kings to Emperors, Earls to Dukes. Personages who had access to information in that generation started taking what they call Primal craft seriously from hearing the development that spread from what seemed like a legend.

They plowed the land in search of more crystal deposits while getting involved in a vortex of conflict. People unrelated and ignorant of the matter started paying attention once it became apparent that their superior covets the stones.

As more and more men and women of authority get involved in the primal struggle, the group that presented the beginning of the fuse started moving around. New knowledge was used to change the status quo. They spread ideology ahead of their times, giving firewood to the burning ambition of the people at the bottom under the neglect of the ones in power. They fanned the flames and pushed the situation into evolving out of control.

Only to disappear after everything falls into chaos.

What they left were only some rumors of their involvement and legends that they spread.

In particular, leaving a sentence for those who search for their traces.

"The moment you 'observe' primal energy is the moment you will become one of 'us'."

Historians then named this group of people Singularities. They then classified primal energy for the first time as dark matter.

It separates known matter into two broad categories based on being observable by conventional action and not: Bright and Dark.

Today, the usage of primal energy has infiltrated the whole strata of society. The general knowledge teaches everyone that primal energy is something that is not observable in conventional ways by life and matter that are in the bright category.

The moment anyone attempts to observe its makeup. Its wave function collapses and displays its inert quantum structure. It stops anyone from touching it by using bright methods.

With problem comes countermeasures. They realized that dark matter can only be touched by dark observers and objects that have both properties, resulting in the increasing preciousness of primal crystals.

They studied primal crystals to create a system that allows for the energy to be trapped in a box made of the crystal's structure. Its creators locked the energy inside this box and removed the possibility of it being observed while in use. It allows for primal energy to be in a state of being dark and bright, calling the system: Primal Box.

This invention allowed for primal energy to rise in its proportion of use, without being hindered by the scarcity of the crystal. They allowed for the invisible energy everywhere on the planet to be used and observed indirectly for the first time. Creating the foundation of today's situation.

"Mr. Wells, your deep memory recall procedure is now ready. Please proceed to the 3rd floor of building A room #3 for further information. The Levi-chair is now waiting in front of your room."

The sound of the speaker echoes on the surrounding walls. It notifies Quin about his upcoming schedule as he prepares for this upcoming operation.

A day has passed since Mary did the Guild's verification. He had enough time to think about ways of manipulating energy and building simple structures using what he calls the chain reaction method.

In doing so, he built a cycle that allows the flow of energy from the outside environment into his consciousness, striking the film blocking his way back to his mind space. Grinding it down.

'It is finally here.' He raises his head while thinking it is about time for this procedure to be done.

He walks out of his room curiously, looking at a hovering chair right beside his door waiting on standby.

It senses his arrival, activating its functions and lighting up its signs while shaking, then goes behind Quin, waiting for him to sit.

While he is staring at its movement, Quin can't help to think of Alpha, his face twitching remembering its shenanigans when it was first activated. It acted like an animal in its behavior using its camera stand. Confusing him into thinking that they sent the wrong stuff.

He sits down and dives into his memories, reminiscing while waiting for his arrival at his destination.

A Nurse holds up what looks like a small cube while approaching the machine in the middle of the room. As its sensor activates, it automatically splits a compartment that allows just the right size of the box.

As she finishes putting the primal box inside the slot, it closes by itself and activates.

"All Primal systems are activated. Welcome to using the consciousness-specialized MedEX-516 Primal model. Please scan the keycard for the verification of the permission to use Primal energy."

As it does a self-scan on its components reporting the overall availability of the device, the nurse removes a card from her breast pocket and inserts it in one of its designated access ports.

The Medical pod radiates light from its port, scanning the card and its structure as a password. It shows an obsessive caution in its design.

As everything gets set up. Quin appears sitting on the Levi-chair just right outside the room, waiting for the door to open.

"Mr. Wells, good morning!"

The nurse smiles as she stares in Quin's direction and notices him approaching.

"Good morning to you too, Cynthia."

Quin returns the courtesy while observing the glaring machine in the middle of the room. His void instincts alert him of active primal energy inside the device.

"So here's the thing that will do the procedure?" He lifts his chin and points it to the machine.

"Yes, everything will be done automatically after all the options are ready for setup. Don't worry, Primal machinery involving the use of dark matter techniques is already a mature industry. We also ordered this machine from the Primal Machinist Association," Cynthia responds while showing reverence.

Primal Machinist Association. It is a gigantic entity that governs everything related to the creation of devices that use Primal energy as its power and mechanics.

The organization suddenly sprung into being in what seemed to be an instant after the extended chaos of the primal crystal struggles was on the brink of bringing a war that will sweep the entire planet in its wake.

They produced the first Primal Box, allowing for the hostile parties to concentrate their attention on its intended use. It calmed down some groups involved in conflicts waiting for its verification while bigger organizations decided they wanted more.

However, right before they acted, the aggressive organizations were instantly involved in a fierce factional battle in their midst. It resulted in the conservative parties winning the position of power, ending the planned attack that may cause an all-out war before it even began.

With the turn of events, the Primal Machinist Association then established its prestige in Primal application and creation. Allowing for a leap in usage of energy-intensive devices.

This allowed the organization to faintly become the top of the planet using clever political maneuvering — at least that was what it appeared to be on the surface — allowing for them to be the arbiter and gather support by accepting all related people as members.

They ended the generation of conflict after establishing a common platform for all groups to communicate and settle their difference. This platform is now called Freelancer's Guild and started what can now be dubbed the post-conflict generation or the Primal Generation.
