Chapter 9 - New World, New Rules (6)

The medical pod opens on top and divides its lid into both sides, displaying its comfortable interior. As Quin looks at its structure, he notices a design just right on top of where the head should be once you lay down on the device. It appears to be a pathway that can allow for the primal energy to gather via ricocheting around the path.

He observes the overall construction and its surface logic intently — trying to glean some of their design philosophy and, from there—how they view primal energy in their ideology.

It reveals a basic design of forcefully directing the order of energy movement. Based on this, Quin can glimpse the shadow of a group of people dedicated to creating a way for total control of energy with the use of machinery and technology.

'So this is the foundation of their name being called as a machinist rather than mechanics. They design specific and intricate machines that can create a different loop of energy movement, building the foundation for mechanics to create various devices that have their distinct functions. In Fantasy speak, akin to Magi, who creates their specific crystals for specialized casting effects that can be built by wand makers into various wands with different uses.' Quin muses.

"Mr. Wells, if you would?"

Cynthia has her right hand towards the medical pod, signaling for Quin to go inside.

He lays down waiting for the machine to close while unleashing his perception all over his body, sensing the movement of energy.

As the device closes all its ports, he senses a weak scanning movement that is focused on his head. He allows it to pass as it tries to bypass his consciousness into touching the hippocampus of his brain.

In a moment, Quin releases the synchronization of his consciousness, allowing for a slight gap. This allowed for the weak flow to connect his brain and the device.

He started feeling the primal energy activating and resonating from each other while being forced to move along the machine's designated pathway.

As he closes his eyes to concentrate on his senses, Quin feels a curious phenomenon. It seems like the specific resonance and movement of energy allows for the formation of a temporary mimic of a structure that resembles an empty consciousness without self-awareness.

'So that's how it is.' Quin marvels at the ingenious design that allows for this to happen.

'Wait a minute, based on this movement, all this energy will turn around my brain and resonate with my neurons to activate my senses into remembering. All the while being scanned by the pseudo consciousness on the hippocampus.' Surprised, Quin figures out the whole mechanism of the device and how it retrieves images of his memories.

'This is how I retrieved my common sense the moment I woke up. It seems like this procedure will not have a significant effect. It will only help me excavate deeper memories with the help of a massive energy flow... Wait a minute, energy! Yes!… Energy!' He widens his eyes, acting like being struck by a sudden thunder.

Outside the device, inside the room that has its walls covered in displays, Cynthia is staring in a daze, waiting for the medical pod to finish all the procedures.

As she started thinking about what to eat for lunch, the device suddenly blazes an alarm, snapping her out of her stupor, and giving her a rush.

"What happened?!" She trots into the control panel, looking at the appearing holographic warning showing the rapidly decreasing energy value.

The report of the device shows an unusual sudden spike of energy flow that does not conform to the set parameters that were input into Quin's profile.

"Woah... That scared me. I thought the machine malfunctioned. I just boasted about it, too." She pouts as she imagines the consequence of her bragging appearing on the video record before the suppose imagined accident happened.

"That'll be pretty embarrassing," Cynthia reveals a wry smile as she pats her chest while checking the overall report, sticking her tongue out in a flash.

"It seems like Mr. Wells' memory loss is more severe than expected. He actually forced the Primal box to form an energy flux to supply more intensity to continue the resonance." She taps the control panel, changing some parameters. "Here, and there. Alright, this should have it covered if there is no more sudden accident happening."

She stares at the closed lid of the device, musing about the total time it'll take for Quin to finish the process. Wishing for no more deviation of any kind to happen till the end of the procedure.

'Success!' Quin revels as he pulled off a feat of temporarily connecting the pathway of energy into his personal cycle. It can now reach the dimensional film blocking his mind's space, allowing for some operation that he already prepared for, only lacking in opportunity.

'With this situation, I can attempt to break the film with an overwhelming energy tide rather than waiting for it to be broken by slowly grinding it down.'

Quin estimates the right launching position to precisely affect the microgravity of each particle into starting a chain effect. It allows most of the energy to crash in the dimensional film.

His preparation done, Quin's face forms a decisive appearance. He acts regardless of the consequence, knowing that this will be a rare opportunity to be in contact with a relatively massive amount of primal energy. And to conduct a practical maneuver that will give a sizable amount of collected data without suspicion.

He concentrates his perception, activating the resonance and forming an entanglement. Focusing on the concept of compression that squeezes a group of particles and alters its mass into changing its gravity. As a result, this triggers a chain reaction in the energy cloud. It falls like waves crashing down and charges straight into the film, making Quin imagine hearing a sound of a glass breaking.

After what seemed like an eternity, Quin abruptly felt free of bounds. His perception scan extends outside his body and covers the entire room. He senses Cynthia pacing back and forth while looking in his direction, waiting for the results. He can hear the vibration of someone approaching outside the room before they even appear. His perception getting clearer, like removing some opaque glass that was blocking it.

Now, Quin can determine he is truly extraordinary. This feeling of total control of details of his surroundings made him intoxicated almost forgetting his true purpose. This ability now gives him a long-lost sense of security in this new world.

'Alright, I should stop indulging in this delusion. One plasma cannon can still blast me out of range. This perception will only increase my safety factor and will not really make me unstoppable. Although, this will make things convenient for me to observe more data thoroughly.'

He habitually reproaches himself in order to return his balance and avoid being inflated. 'Still can't wave without instantly dying, so I better stay honest.'

Now, he is observing the tether that is now fully connected to his consciousness. His void instincts tingled in excitement, wanting him to go back.

'Let's take advantage of this procedure and abundant energy reserves and check the mind space. I need to see if there are any changes.' As Quin relinquishes his control and focuses on the tether. His consciousness gets absorbed back into the mind space, allowing him to observe the place he first saw after his accident with familiarity.

Looking at a small immaterial crystal orbiting an ethereal, larger one, he finally relaxes while rejoicing.

"Elegant movement? F*ck that. Intricate guidance? Bullsh*t!" He started mentally jumping around, venting his suppressed worries, knowing that he now has a reliable haven and retreat in this new environment.

"100% big damage will always be the king." He asserts.

"Who needs complicated stuff if you can bulldoze your way with massive energy?" Quin grins as he observes his crystal flickering with lights, showing his neural network activity with his thinking.

Unbeknown to him, while he is celebrating his success. His instincts also transferred his other consciousness that was divided into the mind space. Only for it to resonate with the smaller crystal, allowing for it to flicker and flash in slow frequency like a beating heart. It gives an impression of something waking up from a long sleep.

As Quin stops his revelry, he finally notices the crystal's anomaly. The situation gets him into confusion as he tries to figure out what is happening.

"Whoa, wait, what?" He unleashes his perception while revealing a dumbfounded face, only to discover that his consciousness is smaller than it was supposed to be.

While he watches the resonating crystal, he realizes that his void instincts acted again on their own. It pushed the consciousness inside to be nourished by the smaller crystal trying to recover something.

As the crystal beats faster and faster, there is a quake happening in the area that can only be sensed by dark observation. Allowing it to be covered with lights flashing and clashing with each other.

After an unknown amount of time, the crystal stops and hovers quietly while having its surface continue to light up, showing its active thinking activity.

It hesitates for a while and pauses, seemingly confirming something, then connects back to Quin's consciousness. Only for it to send a message on its own.

"It is nice to see you, Professor! Can I help you with something?"

As Quin hears the familiar prompt, he widens his eyes in complicated shock, jubilation, and realization as he opens his mouth and responds in an almost shouting voice.

"Alpha?!"
