Chereads / Faust / Chapter 2 - If it shines, My dearest

Chapter 2 - If it shines, My dearest

"I am very sorry for imposing on you, oh that's right I am Eliza nice to meet you." My guest had already awoken from her slumber and was ready to go.

"Wait, before you go, I have to ask you something." I went closer to her and she became flustered. I held her hands and said. "Use your powers to make some candy for me."

Her flustered expression disappeared. She sighed loudly and smiled. "Okay!" Holding out her hands she tried her best to activate her power.

She trembled a bit before a small piece flowed like liquid, twisting until it became a perfect sphere.

She sighed and put down her hands. It was an opaque teal coloured candy. I wondered what it's juice tasted like. I smiled wondering what it taste like if I squeezed it.

I lick my lips bending my head back ever so slightly, putting the candy over my mouth and squeezed. A blue-green liquid dropped out.

It was extremely sweet. It lingered in your mouth and had a small tinge of fruit. I did not know what kind of fruit it was, but it was delicious.

Eliza gulped. I went to the counter and took out a wine glass. Wringing a wooden stick like a towel. A light brown juice with some effervescence dripped down.

Its appearance was similar to that of beer. I added a couple of ice cubes and voila. Twig Soda. It reeked of cinnamon, but the flavour did not.

It was a strong earthy flavour that was like matcha and had a delicious sweet taste that accompanied the earthy taste well and it was not so overpowering but at the same time it was overwhelming my taste buds.

It was a strange feeling, I could taste it but it was just a fleeting thought after the second sip, the flavour would go numb in your tongue and you would barely taste it anymore.

But the smell keeps you wanting more. It was a strange drink. After drinking the juice Eliza bowed and went her way.

"Please come again, my dear customer." She smiled and nodded. The door closed once more and the shop was still silent.

I went to the counter and played around squeezing the liquids out of objects. I then remembered something I wanted to replicate.

A Shugo Chara, when I was young I'd always watch the series to pass the time. Back then I had things I truly wanted. This was my childhood.

Reminiscing the past, thinking of what I wanted to be. Who I wanted to be. This show taught me that I could be anything I wished to be as long as I believed.

It was quite cheesy but I loved every moment of it. I wanted to be someone cool and strong like them. An egg appeared in my hands, light blue with several dark blue snowflakes.

I nodded and put it somewhere safe. Then I moved on to decorate the entire shop. Replicating many things.

Red scissor blades hung on the wall behind the counter. A book shelf containing Grimoires were neatly lined up. Soul Gems were in display cases as well as the Sticks.

Devil Fruits were piled up in a fruit bowl. It was a strange feeling seeing all of these miscellaneous items in a shop.

He was now prepared, the only thing Now was to play music. He took out his smartphone courtesy of the god from before.

Connected it to an amplifier and blasted the music full volume. It was his favourite song, sad and uplifting, a song of love and dedication.

It bought him to tears, a sad feeling erupted as he was midway. The song crescendoed the music messing with his mind.

He went up to his room, with the music still playing this time was a sad song. The only words that came to his mind were. "A spring without you is coming."

He looked outside the window of his room. He smiled and swiped his hand. The scenery changed. Outside was a sunny meadow full of life.

He swiped again, the scenes changed one by one until he stopped. His eyes filled with tears by the landscape in front of him.

Sakura trees everywhere their petals flying in the air. It reminded him of home, of spring in his original world.

He cried, the tears overflowing. He couldn't help but feel something gripping at his heart. He loved his world so much even though he knew it was a bad place.

Now, he was different. He didn't want to make anyone sad anymore. He wanted to make everyone happy! In this world he will do his best!

....

Eliza has been acting weird. For the past few days she looked very happy. I wondered if something happened.

She barely even talks to me anymore! I followed her around town this morning and she was being suspicious.

I couldn't confirm it, but I think she's in love! Whenever I thought about this possibility I wanted to cry. Almost everyone in town knew that I liked her. But the person in question doesn't know.

I'd rather be called a stalker than to let her be taken from me! The whole way I had to make sure I was disguised and unseen.

I also had to be subtle about my actions to make sure I do not mess up and gain the attention of the others.

She was going to pick berries as usual then I realised that she had taken a detour away from her usual place.

I hid in the bushes not making a sound and there it was a cottage in a forest. She opened the door and a bell rang out.

I watched carefully making sure she comes out safely. The bell rang out again and she exited the cottage with a wide grin on her face.

In her hand was a weird fruit. I pondered what it was but she had already went past me and disappeared into the forest.

I hesitated for a bit before I went in. I opened the door reluctantly only to see strange items everywhere.

Winged objects, shiny golden jewels, red blades and a bunch of weird fruit stacked into a fruit bowl.

In a chair was a handsome man in a black cloak with ash blond hair and a tall build. He was neither bulky nor too slender, he had a slight tan colour as well. But the thing that made him so mesmerising was his eyes.

Emerald green eyes that tugged at my heart, I felt my face heating up. He was so handsome! I couldn't believe I was seeing such a mysterious man. He looked up at me and smiled.

It was so cute! I stood there dumbfounded and stammered. "Um, I, uh sorry for interrupting whatever you were doing."

He walked up to me slowly and played around with a ring in hand. He threw the simple silver ring up, he held his hands right in front of him and the ring went straight down on one of his fingers.

It was an interesting and cool sight. My face heated up even more. "Are you okay? Wait a second." He ran to the doorless entrance behind the counter and came back with a cup.

It was surprisingly made of glass, it was very thin. I had never seen such a fine glass before. He held a rectangular blue object in his other hand.

He flipped it over and forcefully pushed down on of the little cubes. A clear little cube popped out. He threw it into the glass and popped out two more.

He then handed it to me. It was very cold. Could this be ice? I looked at it and confirmed that it was ice. I had never seen such clear ice before.

He looked at me and asked. "Which would you like. Oak, rabbit or a rock?" It was a strange question but the only edible thing was obviously a rabbit.

He nodded and went back to behind the counter. He bought a fluffy brown rabbit twitching in his arms.

It was so cute that I could not bear to see it die. He smiled at me asking to hold out the cup. He took the rabbit by its ears and started twisting its body.

I was horrified, the rabbit made no noise but it desperately twitched. A brown opaque liquid flowed down into the cup, the rabbit visibly drying out into an empty husk.

He put the desiccated rabbit away and stared at me looking at me as if I was stupid. I realised he wanted me to drink from the cup.

My body trembled as I bought it to my mouth, I closed my eyes and drunk the whole thing without stopping.

As the smooth liquid streamed down my throat I tasted the unique flavour of meat. It was strange, the taste of cattle, game and poultry lingered in my mouth.

It felt like a dream, a savoury explosion erupted as the full course buffet of meat mingled with each other. I gulped it all down exhaling a turbid breath that reeked of chicken and rabbit meat.

So delicious! It was an intense experience, knowing this I realised that I craved for more. But then out of nowhere the memory of before resurfaced.

"How did you do that?" Magic was only something nobles could use, if he really was a noble then things would be different. "Oh, I ate the Wring-Wring Fruit, it granted me the power to squeeze the liquids out of things." He hummed nonchalantly reorganising his books.

"Wring-Wring Fruit? Then why was Eliza here?" I was curious in why she came here. That was my main motive. "Oh, you know Eliza? Oh forgive me I am Nathaniel, the shopkeeper. And for your question I'd say it was because she wanted to buy a present for her siblings?"

I was surprised, I had thought she fell in love with this man, I guess I had jumped to conclusions too quickly. "What did she buy?" I knew her brother and sister, I was quite fond of them and since I was here I might as well know what she bought.

"If I remember correctly she bought the Wax-Wax Fruit and the Snake-Snake Fruit Model: King Cobra." I was confused, what was up with him and fruits?

"Why don't you see for yourself. Those fruits over there grants you a power. No one knows what kind of power you will gain until you eat it." He pointed towards the bowl of colourfully strange, patterned fruits.

I gulped. "Can I eat it?" He nodded in response. "Just pay two gold and it'll be fine." It was a bit expensive but it seemed worth it. I passed him the money and I walked towards the bowl.

I went closer and randomly chose one. It was bulbous and orange with many swirls. It had small swirls on its leaf as well.

I took a bite and savoured it then the intensely bad taste kicked in. I almost spat it out but I couldn't, I swallowed it while and dropped the fruit.

My face paled and Nathaniel patted my back worsening my desire to puke. "Woah, I forgot that only needed one bite of it. I'll take that thank you." He picked the fruit off the ground and disposed of it somewhere.

"What power am I going to get?" Resisting my urge to vomit I asked slowly. "Let's see, this book says that you ate the Snip-Snip Fruit, this means that you are now a Scissor Human." I wanted to ask what he meant but I already knew somehow.

I stood up and breathed slowly, focusing on my index and middle finger I tried to activate your newfound powers.

Opening my eyes I saw two small blades instead of my usual flesh and bone. It was a strange experience. Nathaniel went closer to me and put a thick twig between them.

I unconsciously closed them together, to my surprise they broke off cleanly. It felt as if I was chopping a vegetable with a knife only much more efficient.

Nathaniel nodded seemingly pleased. At that moment I went straight for it....
