Chapter 20 - The Stranger

On your way to Marxis you had to go through a colossal open field outside Sindrie then through a forest called the "Guardian Forest" they say Treants are very active there which is unusual for their race so it's become somewhat infamous, that and the mountains have created a natural barrier between Marxis and Calmite.

A few hours after leaving Sindie you begin to encounter monsters, there were nothing too strong, you found some giant boars which you hunted and ate for lunch and the very rare Demon Spider which you promptly avoided to avoid the venom, Chloe's not an option anymore. It was like the calm before the storm, if the Treants are all like the one that appeared in your village you will most likely have to make a mad dash through the forest and try to avoid them at all cost because more than one would be a serious issue.

You start to get close to the forest but the sun is beginning to lower so you decide the best option would be to set up a small DIY camp for the night and set off into the forest at first light, you lay down and fall asleep.

You open your eyes and are in complete darkness except the ground around you is illuminated before you see a massive eye open in front of you and you hear a loud rumble as it rises and you see a silhouette of a colossal creature with wings spread that could seemingly destroy an entire village with one swing, it began to speak, its voice boomed throughout the area causing you to flinch in pain "Beware you who walks on the brink, one day you will have to make a decision, will you fall to the light or embrace the darkness, the decision will be yours and yours alone"

Through the pain his voice was causing you manage to say, "Who are you?"

"In the past they have called me many things, but I am the Dominus Somnia and until the day we meet you shall have my boon!" he said and let out a gutteral roar.

You wake up just as the sun began to rise an hear the same roar as in your dream far off in the distance coming from the mountains. After the whole Belial incident nothing surprises you that much, but as your packing up to go his words echo through your mind "One day you will have to make a decision, will you fall to the light or embrace the darkness" and what did he mean by "you who walks on the brink" it's driving you crazy not knowing, why does useful information always have to be in riddles!?

You finally finished packing and begin your trek through the forest, as you go through it starts to get denser and denser, I wont be able to fight easily here, you thought but from all the rumors you heard you expected the place to be crawling with Treant ready to kill you but you haven't heard so much as a squirrel in the tree's. It bothered you, with that ominous dream and then this....

As your mind begins to wander you start to here rustling getting closer and closer, you draw your sword before a man comes out of the brush, he's dressed in light brown shorts, and button up shirt with a large green backpack,

"Whoa! Whoa! take it easy pal" he held his hands up. Realizing he's friendly you sheath your sword. He sigh's in relief "Let's restart, Hello my name is Jakob"

"..."

"This is usually the part where you say your name..." from now on your gonna have to be very careful who you give your name to otherwise the biggest military power in the world will start actively coming after you and vicious bounty hunters to boot,

"Im nobody but a Faceless Wanderer" he chuckles "What...?"

"Well I guess at least the nicknames accurate"

"Yes, I suppose it is" Little did you know soon this name would be known worldwide.

"So where are you headed?" you point to the mountains through a gap in the tree's, "Why would you want to go there? Its one of the most dangerous paths to Marxis there is!"

"Im just a Wanderer"

"Well even so you should try to avoid unnecessary risk"

"Didn't you just come from there?"

"No... Well yeah but I need to get to Sindie asap."

"And why's that?"

"Apparently some kid destroyed most of the city, and I've been hired to put him down"

"I see, you must be pretty strong, in fact I just left Sindrie yesterday, on my way out I saw explosions and a rain of fire coming from the city with one huge red ball consuming the guild hall." your trying to clear yourself of suspicion, he doesn't look strong but if he was hired to kill someone who almost wiped out a major city then you can't be too careful.

"The entire thing!? Were there any survivors?"

"I don't know, like I said I was on my way out, sorry I couldn't be of more help, as cruel as this sounds im glad I left in time, otherwise I might've died"

"Thanks for the info, anyway I've gotta go, good luck on your "Wandering"." He ran off into the direction of Sindrie. Now that that's over with you continue through the forest.
