'Chomp'
'Chomp'
A certain German Shepherd kept tearing into the flesh of some unfortunate bird as it tried to satiate its hunger that for some reason kept increasing in intensity even after it had eaten a lot in a short span of time.
'Grrr'
A weird phenomenon began on its massive body; from sudden spasms that began from its tail which slowly encroached upon its four legs, its neck and finally, its entire body began to shiver like a vibrator. Its sole open left eye twitched erratically as the iris within it began to lose its focus, making it look like a disease-ridden creature that was a product of some horrific biological experiment.
'Meow'
The smallest kitten of the trio of kittens, the one that had been licking over the bloody gash over its stomach suddenly began to sprint towards the human duo while letting out an ear-piercing screech along its wake.
It seemed as if the smallest kitten was possessed by an otherworldly creature as it nimbly dodged the restraining efforts of its two brethren irrespective of its injuries and dashed in a maddening fury.
There was a faint trickle of blood that coagulated on the floor; drop after drop fell on the floor every step the smallest kitten had taken who seemed to have lost all semblances of pain and rationality; its eyes looked glossy while its irises lacked focus just like Shaggy.
'Thump'
The smallest kitten crashed head-on onto the foot of the sturdy handrails as it let out a weak moan in fury before resuming its charge for another collision.
'Meow'
'Meow'
Its two brethren let out a sad wail in response to its maniacal display as they dashed towards it, intending to bring its berserk rampage under control.
"Anita…"
"Yes, Dear…"
"It feels like all of them are going to pounce on us sooner or later. Do you have any ideas for our survival?" Prakash felt at a loss for words as one absurdity after another had stacked upon each other and successfully created a giant collage of absurdities.
"Just maintain your mental state to activate your transformation at my signal. We'll run out of juice if we tried to scale up the walls, so our only choice is to make use of everything at our disposal." Anita said as she braced herself atop the handrails and intently observed the figures of 3 kittens that were interlocked with each other and at the faraway dog that was on the verge of losing its sanity. The couple rapidly exchanged ideas and formulated a plan of action for their survival.
'Meowww'
'Meorrr'
The two bigger kittens desperately tried to bring their smaller thrashing brethren under control, but as each second ticked in vain, the two bigger kittens felt their own sanity slipping through their grasps.
A faint aroma lingered in the air and each breath of this tantalizing aroma seemed to bring out a primal savage feeling from deep within them, one that lacked all evolutionary intelligence and rationality and only seemed to want to devour the source of that aroma.
'Meorrr'
The biggest kitten of the lot let out a cry of anger as it viciously bit onto the neck of its smallest member and ferociously tried to drag it away from the source of the aroma .i.e the humans.
There were many sharp wounds that were riddled on its tender fur as the kitten in its grasp resisted with reckless abandon. Even after sustaining so many injuries, the biggest kitten still resolutely tried to bring its smallest brethren under control, pitching its life at stake.
'Meow'
On its cry for help, the other kitten too bit on the flailing legs of the smallest kitten and began to drag it away together with the biggest kitten despite the small shivers that occurred on its legs. The shivers seemed to steadily increase in intensity after every passing second.
'Thud'
The hairs on the bodies of the two sane kittens stood on end as they gazed through the corner of their eyes at the huge ferocious dog that suddenly dropped a small piece of bone from its mouth and stood on all fours, reaching a height of 4 feet. Its predatory figure exuded an aura of primal dominance that lacked even the tiniest semblance of its cultured upbringing as a house pet.
The small piece of bone that had dropped from its mouth looked grotesque to the extreme, to say the least; what with all the bite marks and the half attached splinters that covered its cracked body.
Shaggy stood up, stretched its body in a fit of habit and slowly walked towards the human duo. Its right eye was closed shut while the iris in its left eye kept shivering erratically as if it was on excessive stimulants while a trace of drool leaked out from between its bloody jaws. The drool carried with it a thick nauseating bloody stench that soon filled the whole floor with the smell, instigating faint cries of resistance from the smallest kitten in response.
When it was about 5 feet away from the human do, with the three kittens lying just 3 feet to its left, Shaggy stopped for a second as if it was immersed under deep thought.
"Anita!"
"Prakash!"
The couple simultaneously activated their transformation as purple smoke seeped out through the pores on their skin and coagulated at the regions of their palms and the soles of their feet. They eventually formed into rows upon rows of thin hair-like projections that began to faintly secrete an oily substance a moment later.
As they stood atop the handrail that was 3 feet in height and gazed at the creature before them that stood four feet tall even while on all fours like a prehistoric beast, fear gripped their hearts. Their confidence in surviving this ordeal kept diminishing the longer they stared at the hulking figure before them.
'Thump'
Prakash could feel his heartbeat that was loud enough to drown out the sounds of the three kittens that were in a tug of war between themselves. He could also feel the flow of blood that had rushed into his brain in excess in response to his battle-ready state; his eyes immediately captured the image of Shaggy as it flickered towards him.
"Jump!" Prakash bellowed in a hurry as he dived to his right while Anita jumped towards her left.
'Thud'
The couple barely managed to hold onto one of the sides of the handrails as a shockwave passed through their bodies when Shaggy crashed into it. They prayed for their newly found powers to work properly as they tried to desperately hold onto the handrail without falling off and endured the shockwaves that rattled their bodies, even slightly damaging their internal organs.
Like a scurrying ant, Prakash ran on all fours along one of the grills extending down from the handrail.
With a shake of its head in order to decrease the stun on its body due to its earlier collision, Shaggy trailed onto the source of that mesmerizing aroma that was nearest to it through its sharp nose while its damaged left eye barely managed to give some helpful visual feedback to its brain.
It was solely functioning on its predatory instincts as its left eye locked onto the sight of the figure of Prakash who was descending the handrail between two grills.
The grills were made of the same material as that of the handrail, and they were a series of thin parallel cylindrical rods that expanded out vertically from below the handrail and embedded themselves into the floor and acted as the pillars that bore the full weight of the bulky handrail.
'Grrr'
Shaggy lunged towards Prakash who had slipped behind the cylindrical grill just in time to witness a series of expansive teeth on both of his sides that failed to clamp on him as the cylindrical grill prevented them from doing so. On his left was a row of messy teeth arranged in a 'U' shape while on his left were a similarly arranged row of messy teeth and a long reddish mass of flesh that happened to be its tongue.
The grill was made to withstand multiple hammer strikes from adult males; just a dog's teeth wouldn't even so much as make a dent on them.
"Ugh, it stinks." Prakash controlled his breathing as he increased his speed of descent, going about in a helical path around the grill as he barely missed another bite from Shaggy.
The couple had purposely planned for them to escape in opposite directions along the handrails. Since Shaggy retained vision only in its left eye, there was a higher chance of it lunging towards the prey that escaped to its left. And Prakash also hoped that Anita could safely escape first and find the whereabouts of their son. Only then would he be able to calm his anxiety-ridden nerves. For the sake of their son, the couple were willing to go to any desperate lengths to ensure his survival.
'Tssch'
"Gaah…" Prakash cried out in pain as one of the frustrated paw strikes of Shaggy managed to slightly graze his back which left along its trail a long shallow wound that was oozing out blood.
"Dear!" Anita cried out in fear as she heard the anguished cries of her husband. She couldn't see his state herself since her line of sight had been completely blocked by the massive figure of Shaggy and she couldn't move towards a clearer line of sight that was in close proximity to the trio of kittens.
"I'm fine. You continue as per our plan. Godspeed!" As she heard his determined shout, Anita grit her teeth and resolutely ran towards the room on the left, without stopping to take a look back.
"Please survive this ordeal dear. Please." Tears streamed out of a pair of crystal clear determined eyes as her emotions underwent a turmoil, but she still ran. She ran in a resolute manner towards her son's possible location. Left with no other choice but to put the lives of her two most precious people at stake, her face practically looked like a sinister devil that had emerged out from the depths of purgatory as she ran with a heart that weighed like a mountain, but without hesitation, never gazing behind her even once.
