Chapter 28 - Might of Human Weapons

60 kilometres to the north-west of North Sentinel Island, smoke billowed out of a damaged battleship. On its deck stood a figure donned in a suit of crystallised armour. What was surprising was the fact that his suit of crystal armour that once shone with the radiance of the moon now looked like it was charred black by fire. There were a series of spider-web like cracks in the regions of his chest while many parts of his helmet had broken down into numerous pieces.

"I told you guys…not to underestimate the humans. Now, look at what happened to us." Wutak looked like he was speaking to someone but it felt more like his words were directed at himself.

He gazed at a small ice block that was filled with frozen humans with complicated gazes. If he hadn't planned to capture some humans here to experiment, he too might have met the same fate as the rest of his clansmen on North Sentinel island.

He felt lost as he gazed at the rising sun. Comrades who he spoke with the day before were no longer alive. Their grand ambitions had not even begun before they were eradicated. Their 10,000-year-long wait seemed like a joke as he thought about it now.

Wutak tied a rope he found in the ship around the block of ice that weighed around 200 kilograms and took off into the skies. His speed of flight was practically a crawl as compared to what he displayed a day before.

3 hours later, a figure carrying a block of ice hovered in the skies above what was previously North Sentinel Island. What stretched below him was a sea of lava.

The sea of lava spanned an area with a radius of 20 kilometres at the very least. It was bordered by a wall of hills that each spanned about 80 metres in height and blocked the seawater from mixing in with the molten lava. Even then, mist enveloped the region as the surrounding seawater evaporated due to the intense heat that had transferred to it through the rocky hills within which lava was constantly being churned out.

It had happened an hour after Wutak had set off to capture some humans. The Sungod clansman with the brightest radiance ordered everyone to begin preparations for setting up their Knowledge Altar. The Knowledge Altar was a sacred relic of the past that contained all of their ancestor's knowledge and experience. It was something that was closely guarded by at least 20 Sungod clansmen at all times. Hence, even Wutak never had the opportunity to touch it till now.

It took almost 2 hours as most of the Moongod clansmen worked together to bring out the Knowledge Altar from deep within the ground. Due to safety reasons, their ancestors had stored it 15 kilometres deep within the ground and closely guarded it like their life depended on it.

In the meantime, the Sungod clansmen began to set up a formation encompassing the entire North Sentinel Island and brought out truckloads of strange minerals from their treasury, minerals that were alien to Earth.

Of the three minerals they had brought out, the one in excess was a mineral that had an orange hue to it and felt hot to touch. The one following after it was another mineral that had a silver-blue coloured hue to it and felt cold to the touch. The last of the mineral had a jet-black lustre to it and had many twinkling spots inlaid all across its surface. It felt warm to the touch but was the heaviest of the lot. A small fist-sized piece weighed about a ton and it was very brittle. With the slightest mishandling of the mineral, it would break into pieces and lose the twinkling spots on it which would turn it into a useless piece of rock.

The Sungods carefully arranged each piece of mineral cut into calculated dimensions over various spots of the formations while the Moongods finally managed to safely place the heavy Knowledge Altar at the very centre of the formation.

The Knowledge Altar was 10 metres tall, 2 metres wide and was shaped like an inverted fountain. Finally, the formation was complete as every clansman cheered while the Sungod clansman with the brightest radiance activated it.

Blinding rays of light shot into the skies as the formation came into light and the arranged minerals were quickly absorbed into the formation and consumed by the Altar. The Knowledge Altar would begin to function after all the minerals arranged in the formation had been fully consumed by it.

45 minutes later, when all the arranged minerals had been fully absorbed by the Altar, the formation vanished while a series of complex intricate hieroglyphs manifested in the air around the Knowledge Altar.

'Swish' 'Swoosh'

Just when they were about to celebrate their success in setting up their Knowledge Altar, one of the Moongod clansman screamed in fright as he pointed to the skies. He was one of those who was a close acquaintance of Wutak and had been significantly briefed about the characteristics of human weapons during the time when Wutak infiltrated human society and lived there for a year.

A Sungod who stood near the screaming Moongod was just about to reprimand him when he too saw the thin streak of light that coursed through the skies and seemed to be heading to their location.

"Shields! Deploy the shields!" The Sungod with the brightest radiance bellowed as his subordinates hurriedly scrambled towards a tower and activated a barrier. The barrier shone with a silver-blue hue as it enveloped the entire North Sentinel Island. It also began to absorb the ambient moonlight and further strengthened itself.

A Significant amount of the Moongods were building this barrier when the others were setting up the Knowledge Altar. Even though he didn't display it outside, the Sungod with the brightest radiance actually took Wutak's words to his heart and made countless preparations in such a short time span.

After their barrier had been successfully deployed and seemed to be operating at a hundred percent of its efficiency, a sense of relief passed through the mind of the Sungod. Thankfully he had managed to erect it in time.

Every God race clansmen watched with palpitating hearts as the streak of light descended like a meteor and crashed onto their barrier.

'Boom'

A shockwave spread through the surface of the barrier as smoke billowed into the skies amid a sea of flames.

"Hahahaha!"

The Sungod clansman with the brightest radiance laughed in joy as that streak of light failed to make even a single dent on their barrier. If the weapons of humans were only of this level then he must have been worried for nothing.

"Take down the barrier," He commanded his subordinates after he had patiently waited for 30 more minutes but failed to notice any subsequent attacks. Maybe the humans had their hands full trying to survive the onslaught of every insect and animal in their surroundings.

"No, don't! That was just their probe. They have significantly scarier weapons in their arsenal." A Moongod clansman hollered in fright as he heard the command of the Sungod clansman. He was the very same person who had noticed the streak of light in the first place.

'Slap'

"Shut up," A nearby Sungod clansman slapped him and huddled together with the other Sungods and laughed in derision as they pointed their fingers at him and mimicked his fluster.

'Bam'

Before they could even register what had happened, the laughing noises of the Sungods were drowned out by a loud impact on the barrier. The barrier stood strong, but immediately, a flash of red enveloped their visions.

'Boom'

Unlike the regular missile that was launched earlier, what struck them home this time was a nuclear warhead. The barrier instantly shattered into numerous fragments as the embroiling heat and shockwaves gushed inside and instantly evaporated all the God race clansmen without exception.

The entire seawater was pushed back for kilometres; the seawater evaporated into steam, winds broiled with fire and converged to form a monstrous tornado amidst a mushroom cloud that rapidly rose into existence.

It hadn't even been a few minutes after the first nuclear strike when a second one hit North Sentinel Island which was immediately followed by the third. The resulting explosions rocked the very crust and sent tremors coursing through it.

Under the face of the mighty Earth rending weapons, the hastily set up defences of the God race were practically soap bubbles trying to withstand a volcanic explosion. A massive hemisphere shaped hole that spanned several kilometres in radius formed in the place of what was once the North Sentinel Island.

Suddenly, cracks formed at the bottom of the hole as magma gushed forth from within and began to fill up the hemisphere. Toxic fumes billowed out from the region, and the tremors created chain reactions that induced natural disasters all over the place while billions of sea life died due to the radiation. It raged on for the entire night.

"T-This is….." Fear gripped the heart of Wutak as he hovered in the skies above the North Sentinel Island and gazed at the massive lava-filled crater that resulted from the first confrontation between the humans and the gods after 10,000 years. A mere 3 nuclear strikes eradicated their entire race while the humans controlled thousands of such Earth rending weapons.

Humiliation! Defeat! Fear! Despair!

Wutak felt like his heart was ground into a pulp and then set to fire. He was the sole survivor now. All the technologies, knowledge, tools, and precious minerals they had accumulated over countless millennia were all reduced to dust overnight.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it!" Wutak hollered at the skies. His emotions were in turmoil while his mental state was a wreck. In order to vent his rage, he smashed the ice block he had brought along into pieces and dropped them into the boiling lava below.

Seeing the tiny frozen flesh of the humans he had captured evaporate within an instant as they touched the lava, Wutak swore to send every human to death by drowning them in a sea of fire.

"Aaarrrghhh!" The maniacal screams of Wutak slowly came to a stop as the damaged crown on his head began to flicker erratically before shooting down a ray of white light onto a certain spot in the lava-filled region.

Mist began to form in huge volumes as the ray of white light tried to freeze the boiling lava but the temperatures seemed to be too high for it to have any effect.

Wutak felt surprised when his crown suddenly acted without his input. He didn't even know of the existence of such a capability lying within the crown. As he gazed at the spot where the white light touched the lava in curiosity, he noticed a weirdly shaped structure emerge out from the lava.

A barrier had formed around the object that prevented the surrounding lava from damaging it. It was shaped like an inverted fountain as complex intricate hieroglyphs revolved around it and shone with blinding lights. The fact that it had survived the brunt of three nuclear strikes was a testament to its defensive prowess.

"Knowledge Altar!" Wutak exclaimed in surprise as his eyes lit up with joy. There might be some hope for him with their race's sacred relic in his hands.
