Chapter 12 - Friday night ritual?

KIARABoth my friends were not at home when I returned. I gave a call to mom letting her know that I have reached safely. Taking a deep breath, I carried my luggage to my room and dumped it near the bed. I have to unpack it, but that will have to wait, first I need to freshen up and then grab something to eat. Hopefully jaz has left some food in the refrigerator.I quickly had a shower and put on a casual tank top and a pyjama shorts to go with it. Leaving my damp hair loose while wiping it with a half wet towel, I walked out of the room and heading straight to the kitchen for food, luckily jaz had left some salad and a jug of lemonade in the fridge. I poured myself a glass of lemonade and added some ice cubes to it, and half filled a bowl with salad. My stomach growled, I know this is not exactly the type of food that would make my mouth water, but ya at least.. Something is better than nothing, right?.I was half way finishing my lunch, when my phone lit up, alerting me that I have got a new text message. I checked my phone and the text was from Riya.'Kia, are you back home yet?''Hmm.. Ya reached abt an hr ago' I replied back'Okay then, eat something, I will be home in another two hours'. Came her instant reply.'Okay, take ur time there is no need to hurry'. It was Friday and usually her friends at work would have dinner plans, you know it's like those people celebrate to congratulate each other on successfully completing an exhausting week together at work, I don't want riya to miss out because of me.After lunch, I unpacked my bag, neatly arranging my things back in its place while dumping most of my clothes into the laundry basket. Once everything was done I looked up at the wall clock, it was still four twenty pm . It will take time for both my friends to return, so I thought I sleep till then, I was literally tired."Kiara, wake up!" Uh oh.. Is there an earthquake coming?.I drowsily opened my eyes to see jaz shaking my shoulders, trying to wake me up. I sat up rubbing my eyes."When did you come? " I asked her"Just ten minutes ago! " She said sitting on the bed facing me."Hmm.. " I was still sleepy. Bloody jet lag!"Thank god, you are back!" She said giving me a sitting hug. " I would have gone mad without you around, you know staying with riya! ""Don't tell me, you had a fight with riya or something? ""No..we didn't!" She said rolling her eyes."Thank gawd!" I dramatically let out a relieved sigh. Which earned a smack on my arms from jaz. "Why would you think that we both had a fight? ""Because you started complaining about how you would go mad staying with her". I said" I wasn't complaining, but she doesn't have time to listen to my chitter chatter like you do". She said slightly pouting.That reminded me.."How is Dylan?" I asked to see her ears going red."Good""Just good? " I raised my brows to let her know that her answer wasn't satisfactory.She rolled her eyes "okay, he's awesome" Drawling the word awesome. I grinned at her. "Happy now?""Very happy" I said, before getting out of the bed to wash my face. Jaz said that she will get something for me to drink and walked out of my room."Riya still not home yet? " I asked Jaz dumping myself on the couch. It was almost seven and she had texted me that she will be back in two hours, which means she should have been home by now."She just called and she is on her way back" Said jaz handing me a glass of hot chocolate."How's everyone at home?" She asked me after a while."All good" I replied, sipping my drink."Is there anything you want to tell us about? " She askedI frowned, what does she want me to tell?, before I could say anything, the main door opened and riya walked in."Helloo" She said dumping her hand bag on the couch."Hello there" I said placing my choco mug on the table and standing up to hug riya."Finally, you are back" She said smiling at me."Yess, I'm back" I returned back the smile.We three spoke for sometime about my time with my parents and what they did when I wasn't here and all. After a while I remembered that I had bought something for them."Hey I have a little something for you two". I said standing up." A present? " Jaz asked with anticipation."Hmm.. Ya something like that" I said walking towards my room and they followed me."Here this is for you, riya darling! " I said handing her a bag. "And this one would be yours " I gave another bag to Jaz.They both curiously looked inside and pulled out the dresses I had got for them, when I had gone shopping with penny.I had bought riya a maroon colored bow front slit peplum pencil dress, and for jaz I had picked a half sleeved navy blue pouf dress.I didn't know if they would like it, but looking at their expressions now, I knew that they did."Thank you soo much kia, I loved it" Jaz squealed standing in front of the mirror checking out on the dress."You shouldn't have wasted money, buying us these " I heard riya say. There she starts again!"Come on riya, when somebody gives you something, you should happily take it and just say 'thank you' rather than complaining". Jaz said rolling her eyes." Exactly, learn something from Jaz ya.." I said and riya glared at the dress for sometime and then gave me a kiss on the cheek and embraced me before saying " Thank you very much.... I loved it". I smiled at her."And ya, I have got some cookies too" I said, pulling out the cookie box.That night we three ended up ordering pizzas and had our usual Friday night ritual, i.e., watching a horror movie...

And today we are watching 'the cabin in the woods'. It wasn't exactly scary, at least not for me and riya but Jaz seemed very much indulged in the movie, clutching on to a pillow tightly, not even moving her eyes away from the screen while stuffing her mouth with popcorns. She is always like that.. She finds everything interesting.
