Chapter 45 - Brunch

Jill and I arrived at the brunch 30 minutes late. I was so pissed. But Jill told me to chill and offer no apologies for it.

When we got to the door of the Governor's grand home, we were greeted by the housekeeper George. He escorted us to a bright seating room. There we saw Monica Garrett and a man and a woman next to her. They seemed to be a couple.

"How nice of you all to finally join us." Monica said with pettiness laced within her voice.

Jill and I smiled at her sweetly. I replied with "Thank you for the invite." With no indication, I felt sorry for being late.

Monica felt a little peeved that the girls were so callous in their late arrival.

"Well allow me to introduce you to my fine guest. They have been patiently waiting for you." Monica emphasized the word patiently. "This is Dennis and Debra Henry. They are ambassadors from Jamaica."

We all greeted each other and exchanged pleasantries. Jill and I expressed sympathy towards the turmoil going on in Jamaica. As we did Monica told George to get Mark. I got nervous at the thought of seeing him again, but I knew to play this cool and remain professional.

When Mark made his entrance into the room everyone was chatting away and didn't notice his presence. He took advantage of this moment and took in Sheri's appearance.

Sheri wore minimal makeup with dainty earrings and two thin gold chained necklace that layered on top of her collar bone. Her hair was in a neat side ponytail that went down her left shoulder. The layers of her hair delicately trailed down her chest slightly past the rim of the square neckline dress she was wearing. The dress was opal colored, with the same colored embroidered flowers all over. It had minimal stretch so it was curve-hugging with ruching throughout.

Mark felt himself becoming aroused at how professional yet deliciously appealing Sheri looked.

Sheri felt like she was being watched. Everyone was admiring Debra Henry's shoes when Sheri turned to look back at whatever presence she felt. It was from Mark.

When she locked eyes with him. A slow smirk crawled across his face. Goosebumps prickled her skin as she read his intent. She shuddered and turned back around when the thought of his lips on her kitty crept in her mind.

There was no way she could be alone with him. Sheri thought to herself, trying to figure out how she was going to know if the footage of their mischief was destroyed.

Mark walked up behind Monica, which caused the group to look up at him and greet him. Mark greeted everyone kindly saying "Its good to see you again." he shook their hands and made eye contact. He even mouthed the word "sorry" to Jill as he said, "hope it wasn't too hard finding our home." Jill was surprised at his willingness to admit he was wrong for his behavior towards her last night.

After a couple more pleasantries were exchanged, their maid Edna politely interrupted to let us know the food is ready to be served. Monica led the way and Mark politely let everyone go ahead of him.

The entrance to their large kitchen was doubled door and wide. We were able to enter two by two. Mark stood at the doorway as he waited for us to come through. When I walked past him, he inconspicuously trailed the back of his fingers down the length on my arm. I snatched my arm away and scurried quickly to the group to have a seat.

When we were all seated Mark looked at me and smirked. I returned his glance with a disapproving smug. I was shocked at his audacity to caress me like that. I also hated how much l enjoyed the feel of his gentle touch on my skin and what it did to my heart.

The breakfast nook in their kitchen was large yet cozy with windows in every corner. The windows were open and let in a nice breeze from outside. By the large breakfast table was lovely French doors that opened up a beautiful terrace, where you can see their freshly manicured lawn and garden.

As we sat down Edna announced, "Enjoy your appetizers as we take your personal order."

Laid out on the table was and assortment of cut up fruit. There were toppings on the side which included, whipped cream, and honey. There also was a smoked salmon set up with capers and black pepper seasoned on top of the fish. On the side was a choice of plain cream cheese or chives, and herbs seasoned cream cheese. Next to that was a choice of buttered crackers or miniature bagles. With choices of plain, everything, or sesame seeded.

"Personal order? I would honestly be good with this." Jill said as we fixed our plates.

I nodded in agreement. "Everything is perfect, I couldn't ask for more."

Irritated at how basic these women were, Monica interjected. "Well, I wasn't sure what everyone would wish to eat so here's something to start you off with as personal orders are taken and made fresh. This method is especially helpful when a guest arrives late." Monica finished the last sentence with great condensation as she looked at them sternly.

"Oh, Debra could you pass the honey?" Jill said ignoring Monica's condescending explanation.

"Have you tried the salmon yet?" Sheri remarked to Jill to also indicate that Monica wasn't talking to her like that either.

"No, is it good?" Jill happily replied, proud that her friend naturally picked up what she dropped.

"So fresh!" Sheri said taking another bite. This b*tch really needed to get over herself. Sheri thought

Mark took a long sip from his water. This is going to be a long meal if these women keep this up. He thought to himself.

Monica was pissed that these b*tches had the nerve to blatantly ignore her in her own home and still behave unapologetically to being over 30 minutes late.

Dennis and Debra Henry looked at each other to confirm that they are witnessing a mini catfight.

Dennis wanted to lighten the mood since the business the were going discuss was delicate.

"Well, these ladies took their time to take pride in their appearance. And I can graciously say if I'm allowed that it was worth the wait. Don't you agree darling?" Dennis said holding his wife hand and encouraging her to help defuse this small strife.

"Yes, you ladies are absolutely gorgeous." Debra graciously added.

"Thank you!" Jill and Sheri said at the same time.

"Sorry if we kept you waiting!" Sheri said squeezing Debra's hand. Jill followed in the same gesture as she smiled sweetly.

Mark finished giving his order to Edna and said "Well I think you all look amazing. If I didn't know better I would have thought it was an occupational requirement." Mark squeezed Monica's leg under the table and winked.

"Right on! Good man!" Dennis said in a thick Jamaican accent. Getting everyone to chuckle.

Monica didn't like the fact that not only were these hoes rude to her, they were getting compliments out of it.

"It does take a while for some women to get it right I guess..." Monica quickly added before giving her attention to Edna for her order.

Jill and Sheri looked at each other, giving each other the "no this b*tch didn't" stare. Sheri squeezed Jill's thigh so she wouldn't say anything.

"No. All women are the same. You all can't part ways with your mirrors when you all think you look good. I always have to break up Debra from her mirror every time we have to leave the house." We all chuckle at Dennis admission.

With everyone giving their order and the mood lighten, Monica clears her throat and says, "So let's discuss business. Now that we know everyone is pretty..."
