Theodora looked into her closet, searching for a dress. She did not have many sparkly or revealing dresses that would be good for a party. At last, she found one; it was peach and had a short kind of bubble skirt. There weren't very many sequins or rhinestones like Theodora guessed that Jessica would be wearing, but she hoped that her natural beauty would speak for itself.
Once she had gotten dressed, Theodora went to find Annie, her stepfather's housemaid. Annie liked to go out clubbing on her days off. She was a party girl like Jessica, although her family never would be able to afford the things Jessica had.
That's why Annie had become a maid.
Theodora found Annie busily dusting a shelf, the shortness of her uniform accentuating the slenderness of her long, smooth legs.
"What is it, love?" said Annie, already Theodora's presence.
"I need help doing my makeup for a party," replied Theodora. Annie sighed.
"Well, at least you're getting out." Annie stood there, taking in Theodora's appearance, and added, "I oughtta do your hair up, too... It looks so plain!"
Theodora roller her eyes. She was used to Annie's bluntness. It was who Annie was.
By the time Annie had finished getting her ready, Theodora felt like a completely different person. Her hair had been teased so high that Theodora felt it nearly brush the ceiling, and her bangs were so puffy that she could barely see, with the spider-like fake lashes Annie had stuck on to her eyelids certainly not making things better. The makeup Annie had given Theodora was drugstore quality, but it did the trick. The neon green eyeliner and flamingo-pink lipstick made her feel like a new girl, more mature and woman-like. And now that she had broken up with Ian and forged a new beginning, that was how she wanted to feel.
Satisfied with herself, Theodora sashayed our the door and found her stepfather's limousine waiting for her in the driveway. What an entrance she would make!
