Chapter 8 - The Replacement

"Get away from her!"

Ian's words echoed in Theodora's head. Her back straightened. How stupid had she been to think that looking pretty would really intimidate him? This would clearly take more than beauty tips from Annie... Preparing herself, Theodora let the words spill out of her mouth shamelessly.

"You think you can boss him around? You think you can boss ME around? H*ll no! You..." She jabbed a finger to his chest. "...you act like we're still together when we're NOT, because news flash for YOU, Mr. Oblivious, we ended things last week! In fact, you were the one who recommended it! So if you're really so eager to boss a girl around, go find that little brunette I saw you talking to just earlier, she seems like the type that would take your crap. But will I? No! I've changed, Ian, whether you like it or not!"

Ian leered at her.

"You stupid girl. Of course I know that you agreed to end things! But I know how your brains works. You're fickle, always changing your mind, never knowing what to say... You'll come running back to me."

Henry opened his mouth to say something, but Theodora gave him a look of warning and turned to Ian.

"Yes," she said with a smirk of contempt, "but of course you came running back to me first."

Before Ian could explode with the anger his flushed face displayed, the little brunette came running over. "Ian!" she squeaked. "Are you okay? Is that wh*re bothering you...?" The brunette had a face like a mouse: a small, pointed nose and watery eyes, with very large buck teeth.

"Is this my replacement?" hissed Theodora. "Just what I thought... She looked like the obedient type."

The classroom door suddenly swung open, and Mrs. Howard, their angry-looking professor, peeked her head through the door. "Stop your screaming and come inside, children!" she spat. "I have half a mind to send you all to the principal's office!"

"That won't be necessary, Mrs. Howard," said Theodora with a fake sweetness, knowing her mother would kill her if she got sent to Mr. James's office.

Shooting one last sour look at Ian and his brunette, Theodora sashayed into the classroom, Henry scampering behind her.

"Seems I've found myself an admirer," she murmured, amused.
