Chereads / What? I'm a Silverfox Beastkin? / Chapter 2 - Abnormal Situation

Chapter 2 - Abnormal Situation

The group arrived at the source of the sound and noticed something unusual. There is a human baby wrapped in a pink towel, rested under a tree in the forest. The baby has pale white irises, and seems to be a newborn baby.

Silverwolf 1: (Over there! The human is the source of the noise!)

Silverwolf 2: (How's a human baby in this forest alone!? With the noise it's making, other Beasts should have already found and killed it...)

That certainly would be the case, but somehow, no Beasts have approached this human yet. The group's confusion is visible on their expressions.

White Fox 1: (For now, I'll put this human to sleep, to stop it from crying, before any Beasts actually approach us.)

White Fox 2: (I'll check our surroundings for any Beasts and recent activities.)

A faint, sweet scent spreads around the first White Fox in the nearby area, and the baby soon falls asleep. At the same time, waves of magic power spreads out in circles around the second White Fox.

----------

White Fox 2: (That's strange. There doesn't seem to be any recent activities in this area. At least, my magic picked up nothing.)

White Fox 1: (In other words, we have no clue as to why or how this human appeared in the forest, and about the unusual lack of Beasts in this area...)

The more they thought about it, the less they are able to understand of the situation.

Silverwolf 1: (Let's bring this human back, and report this incident to our Elders. Perhaps they know something about this.)

Silverwolf 2: (Well, we can't leave this human alone here either. This situation is abnormal.)

With that, the group agreed that this matter must not be ignored, and made their way back to the Family at a faster speed than usual. After all, their priority is to bring back lunch to feed everyone for the day.

----------

Deeper inside the forest, there is a wide open space, and a small hill in the center of it. The hill isn't steep, but it is tall enough such that the sunrise is visible over the trees of the forest, when it is early in the morning.

Surrounding the hill in the open space, lays dozens of Silverwolves and White Foxes who are resting under the warmth of the sun.

Currently it is afternoon, as the sun shines its brightest in the sky, directly above the open space. A Silverwolf, twice as large as a horse, checked the position of the sun in the sky, while resting on the hill.

(What's taking their group so long? They usually return earlier than this...)

The group of Silverwolves and White Foxes in charge of preparing dinner had already returned. And yet, lunch has yet to be secured.

A White Fox, with nine tails, is resting on the hill beside the Silverwolf. Though, it still seems somewhat restless as it felt the Search magic that was casted by a White Fox earlier.

(I knew something unusual is going to happen today. A White Fox from that group just used search magic earlier.)

(They could be doing that to search for Beasts to hunt. What's unusual about it?)

(Normally that would be fine, but the search magic they cast earlier wasn't just common search magic, it was magic that searches for every little detail. To the extent that if a tree lost even a single leaf, you would be able to tell.)

The Silverwolves and White Foxes lived in this forest for hundreds of years, and they know the forest like the back of their hands. That is, if they had hands. In that case, if White Foxes use search magic, they are able to tell if anything happened in the forest.

Both the Silverwolf and the White Fox then thought about the same thing.

((But, there's no need to cast search magic of that level of detail just to search for Beasts to hunt...))

The White Fox then cast search magic to locate the group, and slightly relaxed upon finding out that they are returning.

In the end, they made the decision of waiting for the group to return.
