Chapter 3 - Mimin?

(Elders! We're back!)

After another 10 minutes or so, the group has finally returned from their hunt. The White Foxes started taking out the Orcs, Wild Boars, and Horned Rabbits, and left them in one pile. All Silverwolves and White Foxes took turns to take out their own portions for their lunch, and returned to their original positions.

A Silverwolf from the hunting group reported to the Elder Silverwolf and Elder White Fox first, who remain on the hill without moving. However, the White Fox Elder just stared at the human baby, wrapped in the pink towel, that returned with the group. A visible expression of surprise and confusion is shown on her face.

(You've finally returned. What took you guys so long? This is unusual of your group, did something hold you back?)

The Silverwolf Elder glanced at the pink towel while saying so. It seems like something did happen after all.

(Yes. This will take a while to explain, but we found a human baby in the forest-)

(-We'll discuss this over our lunch. You'll explain to us Elders in detail.)

The Silverwolf Elder, noticing the behavior of the White Fox Elder, interrupted the report. Both Elders should be notified of the situation, and the White Fox Elder is clearly deep in her thoughts, not listening to the report now.

(The White Fox Elder will return to her senses in a few minutes. Probably.)

----------

(So, what exactly happened?)

The White Fox Elder started the conversation this time, with the Silverwolf Elder beside her. The White Fox of the group, who cast the search magic earlier, is now holding the human baby in the air with telekinesis, and sitted in front of the Elders. The Silverwolf of the group, who was to report earlier, continued explaining the situation they had.

...

(You have no clues as to how the human appeared in the forest, and there is an unusual lack of Beasts in the area...)

(Yes. It's as if this human appeared out of thin air. There was nothing we could find. We brought her, the human baby, back to see if the Elders would know anything about this.)

("Her", so it's a girl...)

The Silverwolves listened at the side as the White Foxes discussed about the results of the magic. From what they understood, this is the first time a phenomenon like this happened in their entire lives in this forest.

(There's something else that makes her more unusual. Earlier, I used search magic to locate your group and notice that you were returning. But I was not able to detect the human that you were bringing back with you.)

(((What?)))

They looked at the White Fox Elder as she said so. Their reactions are expected. Even the White Fox Elder, with the strongest magic power and most experience with manipulating magic, was unable to detect the human with search magic. The magic used was common search magic, however...

(I have lived for more than 800 years, and my nine tails is proof of that. Of my 800 years using search magic, I have never failed to detect the presence of anything. And yet... This human... She is definitely abnormal.)

The Silverwolf Elder proceeds to interrupt her thoughts.

(Earlier, you said you knew something unusual is going to happen today. Is this human... Is she related to that?)

(Yes. She is the abnormality, I'm sure of it.)

(Then, in that case...)

They looked at each other and nodded, as if they already understood what's in each other's minds.

(We should take her in,)

(And observe her as much as possible.)

The Silverwolf tries to object, -

(But!-)

(-Are you questioning us, Elders, about our decisions?)

(N-no! It's not that!)

-but got shot down immediately without being given a chance to explain himself. It seems like the Elders' decision is final, and they will not change their minds about this matter.

(It's just... Who's going to be responsible for her growth? Who's going to take care of her, and educate her about the world?)

(Obviously, those tasks are to be split between us Elders, and your group. We'll all take turns to look after her. We will be the ones to educate her-)

(-And your group will be the ones to teach her about survival, fitness, and magic.)

((Eh?))

The Silverwolf and White Fox responds as if they still do not understand their situation yet. They half-willingly gave up and decides to name the human.

(Humans need a name, they use names to refer to one another all the time. It's basically essential that we name this human, I suppose. I'm not great with names, though...)

The Silverwolf let the White Fox decide on a name for the human instead. Silverwolves and White Foxes never had names, since they can always hold conversations with one another using telepathy easily. They never needed names and that is their way of life even now.

Besides, names are too difficult to come up with. If they are told that naming is the specialty of humans, they will never doubt that for even a second.

(Hmm... Names are difficult indeed... If I give the human a cute name, it should be fine right? How about...)

A name came to the White Fox's mind immediately. She contemplated for a moment before she decided,

(Mimin?)

(((Yeah, I suppose that works.)))

The Elders and the Silverwolf went with it without objections. From now on, the human with unknown origins, Mimin, will be living as one of the Silverwolves and White Foxes.
