Daniel was soon overwhelmed by the amount of information his handler had thrown at him. They had long since left the suffocating room filled with the up order of the military. His handler, the man who had been standing in front of the group of officers, was not a talkative man, but nonetheless less force fed him information. He did this by directing implanting the knowledge into his brain. It was an endless stream of information that would take him a long time to sort out.
From the stream he understood that his handlers name was captain John Morgan. He belonged to a black ops squad. Daniel was to be the newest member of the group. He was admitted not only because of his connection with the missing Guy, but also the prestige he had gained in all of the games he had played. A cook was always something that could be used.
Captain Morgan proceeded to tell him that the world of Infinite universe was filled with both technology and magic. This meant that long distance fighters were the normal way to power. The black ops squad was different. They were known as mage killers. They specialized in close range combat. Each member would be trained in stealth and movement techniques to approach the mages and rifleman to inflict damage and get out. They were a glorified assassination squad.
"So even though weapons like magic and rifles exist in this world, we still focus on cold weapons? like swords and fists?"
The captain nodded as he heard Daniel's simple explanation of the things he had heard. "We do still use ranged weapons and magic, though for us magic simply augments our close combat. This is why a minimum of a 3 in intellegence and wisdom are needed. We also prefer that members have a high score in a physical stat like strength or dexterity. Constitution not so much, we are assassins not fighters. Your stats are all 3's, Normally this would not be enough to get you admitted, hell I've never even heard of someone having average scores like that. But it isn't up to me, the powers that be say you're in my squad, so you're in my squad. We just need to get you trained so you dont kill yourself or your teammates. "
"This is all for the future though, for now you still need to escape that death trap of a world that you are on. There will be no reinforcements coming for you. The incoming portals have all been destroyed. You are able to warp out, but only if you can find one of the portals to get you out of there."
"If and only if you manage to make it to the base will you be ready to advance. At that point your training will begin. You will go through the same training all of the members of the military go through. You will be ate up and spit out. Only after you graduate that hell hole they call basic training will you be joining our squad. That's when your real training begins. That does not mean you can slack off during your training in basic. There you will learn the foundations of being a soldier, learn the skills you will need to survive, as well as recieve the foundation of training in your chosen weapon. Do not waste your time choosing a ranged weapon, if you do we will have to completely retrain you, and you don't want to waste mine or the squads time. Do I make myself clear private?"
Daniel nodded as he listened to the captain's words. "Crystal clear sir, when I leave my starting planet I will be sent to basic training. There I will choose a melee weapon to be trained in. If I may sir, will they also teach me magic there?"
The captain nodded. "Ever soldier receives the most basic of training when it comes to magic, those soldiers who specialize in magic will recieve further training. The training you will recieve will go along with your element. The military is a weapon, so you will only learn combat oriented magic of your element."
The captain stopped walking in front of a doorway made of a silvery liquid. "Through these doors you will find yourself back in the world of Infinite Universe. For the foreseeable future this will be your home. Unlike the commercialized pods you are used to this pod will run 24 hours a day. Good luck private."
Daniel did not hesitate to walk through the liquid portal. Through that door was his way of saving his best friend. A look of determination crossed his chubby face as he stepped into a future of blood and chaos.
