The capsule quickly filled with with fluid as he laid his head back into the head rest. He had read this online. These new capsules were designed to have the highest immersion. This was done mainly by utilizing sensory deprivation. The liquid was warm but not hot. a comfortable level. A mask slowly covered his face as the liquid filled the capsule. It was disorienting at first, there was no light, no sound, even his body could feel nothing inside the capsule.
He felt as if he was floating in a void, that nothing existed around him. There was darkness. Only infinite darkness. He moved in the darkness, the sound of his feet against and unknown material echoing in the void.
In front of him a single column of red light appeared. He did not hesitate as he moved towards it. This process was also what his friend Daniel had experienced. He would have to enter a total of 7 different lights. Each light would bring a different experience.
The world was enveloped by the red light. From the darkness a world of red began to appear. He was sitting at the kitchen table. In front him his mother was drinking yet another glass of wine. They were drinking their ever bland dinner, The food packets the federation had mandated everyone eat. His father, a bulky man who wore a grey button up shirt and thick glasses was reading the paper.
"Boy you need to get your head out of the clouds. That VIrtual reality world the federation is pushing on us is no good. Take a look outside, We have destroyed this world, nuclear radiation had made our world almost uninhabitable. We need to be working on a solution, not playing video games."
On the table in front of him was a broken Vr Headset. His father had broke it before he could even play. Guy grit his teeth as he looked down at the headset. Tears were forming in his eyes as he looked at headset he had spent all of his savings for the last two years to buy. He had been saving since he was 8, and finally had enough to buy it. He had saved for two years to finally buy this. the most basic of virtual reality headsets that could be used for gaming.
A Deep sense of anger rose up in him. He could not wait until he was 18, Until he was old enough to leave this house and do what he could. He was tired of just hearing about the games his friends were playing, He wanted to play too! He would be the best there was! He grabbed the headset, taking it to his room. He could fix this. He had to fix this! only then could he become the best.
The world once again faded, the crimson memory he had just been disappearing into the void. He sighed as he remembered that day. That was the day he had decided to become a professional gamer. to leave behind his old fashioned father and join the modern era.
Ahead of him another light column lit up. This one was orange. He was a little more wary as he made his way into this light column.
Guy sighed in relief as he realized this column of light did not contain a memory. This column instead brought him to a workshop. He slowly approached a work bench, in front of him he saw the broken pieces of his Virtual Reality unit. The screen was completely shattered, but the rest of the device seemed to be in on condition.
Next to the Headset was a pair of glasses. These glasses were the glasses he used for school. They were a simpmifies version of a gaming helmet that would allow him to attend a virtual classroom. The glasses were linked with a small box that laid open in front of him. This was the unit that allowed him to attend school. A smile crypt across his face as he remembered his vain attempts to tamper with the box so that he could link those glasses with the virtual game world.
The process was much to difficult for a 10 year old to accomplish. The current guy however had no problem linking the two together. He slowly took out the tools on the work bench and started the process. It did not take long, as he had finally completed the task during his first year of engineering school. He had linked his newest glasses back then with glasses he recieved to go to college. The result was a pair of glasses that not only allowed him to attend school, but also functioned to let him see better. He had wore the glasses every day after that, refusing the surgery that would correct his vision. Eventually he had succeeded in doing what he was doing now, combining them with the gaming helmet to allow him into the world of video games.
Guy could not keep the smile off his face as he looked down at the finished product before him. These glasses, that he had finally finished at the age of 16 had allowed him to secretly escape the control of his father.
The world once again faded to black as the orange light disappeared. Circling around Guy was now two complex mathematical algorithms. They moved too fast for him to be able to understand what they said, but he was able to see that they were indeed mathematical algorithms.
He nodded to himself as the 3rd column of light appeared before him. This one was unsurprisingly yellow. The scene he witnessed when he entered the light was one of his many math classes. On the board was a series of equations and graphing different points. The teacher in front of him was discussing the Chaos Theory. According to Robert L. Devaney 3 different conditions are necessary...
Guy once again smiled as he looked at the classroom. The chaos theory was by far his favorite subject in math. If something started only slightly differently a complete different outcome could happen. A good example of this is the cult classic movie the butterfly effect. To him it showed how even an insignificant person like him could cause huge changes in the world.
The light once again faded, leaving him in a world of darkness. 3 out of 7 of the light columns had been finished. He was almost half way towards having his avatar created.
