Ellery's POV
I couldn't open my eyes, but something definitely didn't feel right. It felt like it was too early for me to be waking up but it was too hot. The heat was wrapped around me. I didn't remember turning on the heat or anything like that.
It felt strange. I tried to turn around but something was holding onto me, not letting me turn around. Moving the covers, I saw a hand and then an arm. If I didn't turn into a mutant through the night, then I don't remember growing an extra arm.
Oh my god.
It couldn't be.
My eyes flew open as I hit a realization. But it can't be. He was sleeping on the couch when I left him to go to bed last night. But did I lock my bedroom doors though?
I flip the covers open and saw a pair of hairy legs entangled in my own.
I let out a terrifying scream and it rang through out the entire apartment. Beside me, Charles sat straight up in shock.
"What?!" He said, alarmed. "What's going on?"
He looked around the room, confused like a lost puppy. If I wasn't in this situation, I would've laughed until I cried. But, I was.
"What the f*ck are you doing in my bed?" I screamed. "You f*ucking pervert!"
Charles jumped up from the bed, clearly surprised.
"Ahhh!" I screamed in horror when my eyes met with something unholy.
"Why are you screaming?" He asked before he realized it hat happened and looked down on his body.
"What do you mean?! Why are you naked?! Why are you in my bed?!" I didn't know what I was thinking. I picked up a pillow laying beside me, and threw it at him.
It was probably a natural instinct that I have. I'm a strange person, now that I think about it. Ellery, why are you thinking about that right now? Of all times, now you choose to self-reflect? Girl, go back to reality. I shook the thought away.
But of course, like the person he is, he saw the pillow coming and caught it.
"Oh, you mean this?" Said Charles, holding the pillow in front of him and pointed at the bed and back to himself.
"Yeah, I mean this!" I said, copying his motion of pointing. "What did you think I mean?"
"It was cold, so I slept there. Plus, you don't expect me to sleep on a couch do you?"
"Uh, yeah. That's why I left you there. With a pillow. And a blanket."
"The towel must've slipped off when I was rolling around in bed. We didn't even do anything so why are you freaking out, Ellery?"
"Because friends don't sleep together."
"Why didn't you wake me up last night then?" He smirked.
"B-because," I blushed. I didn't want him to know that I was watching him sleep, that's just weird and perverted. "I tried and you didn't wake up. So I just left you there." I replied.
"If you say so." He chuckled.
"Ugh, just go. Just leave. Go somewhere, please."
"Thanks for the tea." He said, winking and leaving the room.
Did he just wink at me? It was almost like he was playing a joke on me. I can't believe this. But then again, once a jerk, always will be a jerk.
I got up from my warm and toasty bed and went into the living room. When I got there, Charles was already buttoning the third to last button on his shirt. Gotta give the guy some credit, he's a quick dresser.
"You couldn't have gotten dressed before you climbed in bed with me?" I asked.
"I was half asleep. I didn't register anything. I'll make sure to remember that next time." He laughed. "Can I have some breakfast before I leave?"
"Why?"
"Couldn't you at least be a hospitable host?"
"Why?"
"Just forget it."
"Fine." I said, reluctantly. "I'm only doing this because you saved me last night."
~~~~~~
"You make killer pancakes, Ellery. I gotta give you that."
"Thank you." I replied. "I have to go somewhere now. If you're finished, please leave."
"So harsh. I'm leaving."
"Have a safe trip, I won't show you out."
"Thank you for the breakfast Ellery."
"Yep. Bye." I waved at him. Gesturing for him to get out.
It was Sunday, meaning it's the day to visit my mom at the hospital. I haven't been able to visit her because someone has been giving me work nonstop. I finally get a chance to go and visit her. I miss her.
I did the dishes and got dressed. I like to cook but hate to do the dishes. It's such a chore.
I picked up my purse from where I left it before. I forgot to dry it and it was still damp. I need to get a new purse. I opened the purse and took out my wallet and keys and left.
I walked down the two flights of stairs and came face to face with the landlord.
"Damn it." I whispered to myself. Just my luck.
"Ellery, good morning."
"Good morning, Mr. Philips. How are you?" I said in a fake tone. Mr. Philips was a tall man in his mid forties or fifties. He had salt and pepper hair with very sharp face features. He was a tough nut to crack as he never smiles or laugh. It's kind of creepy.
"I'm fine but, I could be better. If only you'd pay your rent."
"I got a new job last week and it pays really well. I promise I'll have the rent by the end of the month."
"Ellery. This is your third time. I can't do it anymore. You know what happens when you don't pay your rent for three months in a row, don't you?"
"I know, Mr. Philips. Please, just one more time. I promise you I will have it by the end of the month."
"That's what you said last month, and the month before that. This is the last straw. I can't do anything about it anymore." Mr. Philips said, shaking his head. "If I give you another chance, other tenants will ask for the same. I can't do that. You signed the contract, you know the rules."
"Please. I promise I'll have it by the end of the month this time."
"I'm sorry Ellery, but please remove all of your belongings by the end of the week. I expect it to be spic and span when I check it, if it's not, there's going to be a fine." He said, walking up the stairs and leaving me standing alone in despair.
"Mr. Philips!"
"That's my final decision. You're being evicted. Good day, Ellery."
This is just perfect isn't it. It had been, just a perfect morning.
