The following day, Kaius left the military institute and did not stay any longer. Dreigh was also pestered by his friends to tell them what he and the Supreme Commander had talked about. He kept on insisting that it was nothing and they just talked about the incident involving the mysterious remnant but no one believed him.
"Then why did you talk for more than an hour? It's impossible that you only talked about that? Don't tell me you only stared at each other for a long time?" Endo's eyes widened at the sudden realization. It was not an impossibility, with Dreigh's personality it could happen. The Supreme Commander was really a capable man to be able to go with Dreigh's lack of words and enthusiasm in the act of conversation.
Dreigh turned his back and left the stupefied man. It was the only thing they talked about and nothing was wrong with it so no need to explain. The morning did not even end yet but General Rozen came to find Dreigh. He was ushered to one of the rooms inside the old dormitory where the general was waiting for him. Like his friends, Rozen was also interested to know what he has talked about with the Supreme Commander.
"What did you say to the Supreme Commander?" the direct question made Dreigh raised an eyebrow.
With the general's tone, Dreigh chose to remain silent. He wasn't in the mood to face this kind of person. "Did you lose your tongue?" Rozen became angry at his silence.
"Why don't you ask your Supreme Commander about it?" he spoke blandly.
Rozen's anger was nearing its peak and the way this remnant talks with him is making that anger about to explode. From the very beginning, he has no favorable impression of these remnants, and now that one of them thinks of himself more important than him was making him more irritable. He can't accept the fact that the Supreme Commander showed an interest in a mere remnant and even invited him to the dinner specially prepared for his excellency. He was even given the chance to talk to the Supreme Commander alone which was a privilege only given to some important people.
"I see. You became confident just because the Supreme Commander gave you attention. How audacious!" he banged the table and gave Dreigh a fierce look filled with hatred.
With furrowed eyebrows, Dreigh saw the deranged look of the general and he did not hold back on his words. "Stop accusing. I am not the same as the likes of you who only knew how to lower themselves in front of a powerful person and lap their feet,"
"You!" Rozen suddenly stood up and unsheathed his sword pointing it to Dreigh. "You're only a remnant! You do not have the right to talk to like you are higher than me. You're kind are only a sore to the eye in this place. As far as I can see, you are not of any use to this kingdom for that reason you should all die!" He roared and lunged at Dreigh.
The door opened forcefully and a sword deflected the attack saving Dreigh who was ready to dodge the deadly attack. "What are you doing General Rozen?" the voice that sounded through the room was dark. Soldiers and remnants filled the room when they heard the commotion and saw the scene of two swords crossed together.
"Don't interfere, Captain Mathis, this is not your concern. He had offended me and deserve to die," Rozen did not back down and instead shifted his killing intent towards Captain Mathis.
"You're going too far Commander General Rozen, I will report this to the Supreme Commander. Do you think I would believe your words just now? Dreigh didn't do anything against you and yet you raised your sword against him. That can be grounds for dismissal or even death." Mathis did not move but retained his ground. If not for one of his men whom he assigned to watch the general's moves, he wouldn't be able to come in the rescue on time, or else something disastrous might happen.
"Are you siding with that monster? You're a soldier of the Kingdom of Glasfale and yet you are siding with them?" the general was beyond angry. He could not accept anyone going against him especially those who are lower than him.
Mathis, watch as the general became more and more unreasonable, "Yes I am a soldier of this kingdom and I am also inclined to not turn a blind eye into the wrongdoings of others, whether they are of common birth, an official, or a remnant. Commander General Rozen, I am under the command of Commander General Emrys and I will stand on what is right. Be sure that this matter will reach the Supreme Commander."
Rozen was shaking with so much anger but didn't dare to talk once again. He lowered his sword and left the place with his men. The matter has ended but the hatred within the general has only grown.
"Are you okay?" Mathis looked at Dreigh who was standing behind.
"I'm fine. Thank you for the help captain," he answered. He didn't expect that a simple conversation would turn into this kind of a mess. "I'm just a little bit curious why the Commander General became so fierce. The first time I saw him, he was not like that."
It was also a mystery to Mathis how the general had changed so much. He had known the man for more than ten years now and had never seen this side of him. He was amiable most of the time and would never raise a sword against someone just because of mere words.
"I'll get this investigated. A word of warning though, be attentive to your surroundings. Now that the general is hell-bent on broadcasting his hatred towards you, the soldiers who find your existence dissatisfying would certainly make a move. I would try my best to help you and ask for Commander General Emrys's help regarding this matter." Captain Mathis moved forward and faced Dreigh and the remnants.
"We got it captain, thank again," Endo answered for all of them.
Captain Mathis and his men also left but he did not forget to assign some men to watch the remnants and help them if something comes up. The remnants were also shaken by the happening, they could only at one another and return to their own rooms. Dreigh was with his friends and they all went to his room.
"What happened out there?" Vira asked in trepidation. They were spending their time resting when the commotion startled them. Together with the soldiers nearby, they rushed towards the room and saw the scene where the general and the captain had crossed swords. They were confused as to what has happened.
"The Commander General pointed a sword at me and had intended to kill me luckily Captain Mathis just came at the right time," Dreigh gave them a brief explanation.
"I think we should ask for leave and return to our families, since the general doesn't like our presence here, why not release us. I think that would be better for us all." Rond was the one to speak first in response to Dreigh. He has a valid point, if none of the soldiers were happy to have them, they could always let them leave but they did not do it.
"I'll try talking to Captain Mathis about this matter, I'm having a bad premonition on what happened today." Dreigh thought for a moment before he agreed to Rond's words. It was better for them to leave this place as much as possible.
The crazed he saw in the general's eyes were not normal, his eyes were almost red and he was sure that if Captain Mathis did not come to interfere, he would surely die brutally. "We can leave this matter first and think of a way to protect ourselves if they decided to get rid of us. I believe Captain Mathis's words so we should prepare."
Endo and the rest nodded, it was better for them to be prepared than to be caught off guard later. Dreigh instructed of things they should do and let the group relay his message to the other remnants. Their leisure days were about to end after this incident.
--
Commander General Rozen locked himself inside his room and destroyed anything he could get his hands on. He was restless and did not know how to quench the boiling anger inside him.
'Those remnants, I'll kill them all. How dare they look down on me.' Were the words running on his mind. It was the only thought that was clear inside his messy head.
The room suddenly became dark and the temperature dropped but the man inside didn't notice what had happened. His mind was filled with dark thoughts. A whisper sounded from the corner of the room followed by another and another until multiple whispers were echoing inside the dark enclosed room.
"Yes, I will do it," Rozen spoke to no one and his eyes were unfocused. He was talking the air and yet he was talking like a person was standing before him.
"I know... I will kill them... I will do it... kill them..."
