Arthur did not stray too far from the military institute after he left Dreigh's room that night. He roamed around the area without purpose and would only look into the distance most of the time. His current self was full of questions and doubts. He followed Dreigh to this place because he wanted to make sure that his conjecture was true but it turns out that he was wrong. He did not return to Luelia to report and instead spent his time circling the military institute.
He could leave any moment he wanted to but for some unknown reason he stayed. There was like an invisible force shackling him to the place and he was too lazy to fight it. It was a normal day for him as he once again strolled silently when he saw a man killing the remnants, he could remember some of them since he fought them. Arthur stood on one of the tallest trees and watched the murder unfold without blinking an eye.
He had lost interest in many things since the day he lost his master. He became rogue and accepted mercenary jobs just to ease his boredom. The ability he possesses had also become strong the last few years and slowly he found himself being dissatisfied with many things. No opponent could beat him. No one could match him even in close range combat. Everything has become dull that he could even watch someone dying without feeling remorse or guilt.
For the past two days he watched as the remnants desperately fought for their lives but still died at the end. He squatted in the same place but did not make any move to save them. On the third day, another batch of remnant was slaughtered but this time the man actually used some Shadows to kill them.
The by stander narrowed his eyes at the sight of these creatures. It had been so long since he had seen a Shadow but unlike the ones he had encountered before these shadows seems to have a nearly solid body that they could harden and reshape into weapons. 'Interesting' he thought to himself. He saw the man creating a dark barrier enclosing the whole area with nothing but blackness but Arthur remained unmoved.
After nothing happened, he lost interest and was about to leave when he felt a familiar energy coming from inside the barrier. He looked back in astonishment and directly flew towards the barrier exactly in front of the enemy. He saw the man controlling the shadows that formed into five giant balls that can fit a person. He felt the energy was coming from one of these balls of shadows.
He didn't think twice in attacking the man who was controlling the shadows. Large wind blades were summoned and hurled at the man who only felt the danger when he looked behind him. Rozen hurriedly commanded the shadows to act as his shields but they were no match for the sharpness possessed by the wind attack. The wind blades penetrated the messily made wall and hit their target. Rozen fell kneeling to the ground grasping at the bleeding wound on his arms.
"Who are you?" Rozen asked in anger. He didn't expect that someone would be able to interrupt him. He was already so close in fulfilling his self-made mission.
"None of your business," Arthur did not spare him any more glance and walked forward to the ball where he felt the familiar energy was.
Clarity came to Rozen and he laughed in mirth, "Yes I remember now, there was a report about you from the battle against Luelia. They labeled you a Singular, a wind user master. Good, this is indeed good now I will be able to test the full potential of my newly obtained power." Spiked shadows suddenly immerged from the ground beneath Arthur's feet. He jumped back and managed to avoid these spikes but those deadly objects seems to have a mind of their own and they kept on following Arthur with the intent to pierce him through.
This chase did not last for long as Arthur summoned more wind blades infused with more internal energy and destroyed the shadows after him. He flashed towards Rozen and gave him a punch in the face. The man landed heavily not far away from Arthur with a bruised and bleeding face. Without standing up, Rozen was able to control more shadows inside the barrier to attack Arthur but it was deemed futile.
Arthur's wind attacks are more resilient and sharper than the hardened blades or spikes of the shadows. He was like dancing with a graceful music background as he leaped and dodge the numerous attacks of the shadows aimed at him. The moment he made his own attack a splattered shadow was the only thing that was left but these shadows were able to quickly regenerate their destroyed bodies. Arthur saw that no matter how he cut, these creatures will continue to regenerate.
In his final act, Arthur summoned a wind spirit and with its help they conjured a tornado with wind blades incorporated on it and launched the attacked towards Rozen who was able to stand up from the last attack. The tornado directly destroyed anything on its path and hit Rozen, enclosing him inside a whirl of wind full of deadly blades.
The darkness vanished the moment the vortex of wind disappeared and the general was left in a bloody mess. Arthur turned back and stood in front of the ball he intended to observe before engaging with Rozen. He stood there and waited for the ball of shadow to disappear. A dazed Dreigh appeared in front of him and he stumbled back but Arthur remained where he were as he watched the man.
This was the scene that Captain Mathis and the other soldiers saw when they reached the area. Mathis wanted to talk to Dreigh that day but he didn't see him or any of them inside the old dormitory building. He was about to go and look for them when a soldier came panting to report that several soldiers were dead and the general was in danger.
Captain Mathis rushed to the scene together with more soldiers and saw the bloody view that made his stomach queasy. Mathis saw the bloody general nearby and got to his side to check if he was alright.
"General?" he spoke in a hushed tone while gesturing for his men to surround the enemy.
"I'm-I'm fine, but my soldiers…" Rozen coughed and spat some blood. "They were all killed by that man and his accomplices…"
Mathis's brow furrowed at the statement, he did not understand what the general was talking about. "The-the remnants…" he whizzed and took a deep breath before continuing to talk, "they worked with the man to kill my soldiers, we were ambushed…" the general's voice weakened and slowly lost consciousness due to too much blood lose.
The captain stood up with a complicated look on his face and looked at the enemy together with the remaining remnants from the military institute with an unreadable expression on his face. He did not understand what had happened and the facts about this current situation were not clear yet but before he could even think of investigating this matter further he needed to solve the current dilemma they had.
