Chereads / Remnant: A Battle Within / Chapter 46 - Relentless

Chapter 46 - Relentless

His wind whip reached the shadows and sliced them in half only for them to regenerate again. Arthur frowned but he did not stop in attacking and brandishing his wind whip. The shadows would be cut into pieces but will still return to whole in minutes. Slowly the bloom stage shadows kept coming near them, their momentum did not decrease one bit.

"Are you done yet?" Arthur asked the remnants before him with a steady voice.

"Not yet, Endo has not made any spark yet." It was Dreigh who answered. His clothes had already been soaked with sweat as they had been maintaining the wall for more than thirty minutes now. It was a task they were adept at since they were still practicing their control of their ability.

Arthur did not speak anymore and focused on slowing down the shadows. Several questions suddenly filled his mind. He had been wondering why there were too many shadows in this area and most of them had already reached the bloom stage.

The shadows did not stop their movement even though they had been sliced too many times. The more they came near their target, their bodies slowly hardened and Arthur had been having troubles in attacking them. His wind whip had reached several shadows but he only left some deep cuts on them which disappeared in mere seconds. With his one hand a large scale magic symbol appeared on the ground beneath their feet and from that magic symbol wind gales appeared to attack the shadows.

These wind gales were different from the wind blades he first used. This attack is much fiercer and created a cyclone coming from below. With the use of a magic symbol, the attack was much stronger but the internal energy it consumes was also high. Arthur took a few steps back to check how the other remnants were doing.

"I can only maintain this wind gale storm for at least fifteen minutes only, after the gales disappear, I can't promise that I will be able to protect the four of you. That's why, if you could make it faster that would be better." He explained and once again prepared for another series of attack.

"I know, I'm doing my best here." Endo exclaimed in exasperation. He was doing his best but it was too difficult for him.

"Okay I'll trust you in this then," Arthur nodded even though they can't see him.

After fifteen minutes the gale storm disappeared and several bloom stage shadows pounced on them. Arthur faced them head on using his wind whip, several shadows attacked him at once while the others aimed at the wall created by Dreigh and Rond. The shadows relentlessly slammed their hard bodies on the wall and slowly chipped it away.

Dreigh and Rond were being pushed back but they did not give up and continued to reinforce their wall. The fight between Arthur and the shadows became more intense as the shadows started to change the shape of their bodies into weapons sharp enough to cut a boulder in half. All Arthur could do is dodge and defend since he can't really kill these creatures. He can't help but wish that Apollo was there to help them.

Several wind blades was again summoned and aimed on the shadows together with his wind whip but he was still cornered and received several gashes from all the attacks he received. He gritted his teeth and continued to defend. His body had been immune to physical attacks but with too much his body might not be able to handle it.

He was a little bit distracted and did not notice a spike like shadow heading his way. The shadow was about to hit Arthur but it was violently thrown away by an invisible force. Arthur noticed it and looked at where the force came from and saw Dreigh who was busy flinging some shadows away from them.

His control of his ability was much more advance than the others thus he had chosen to help in defending and left the wall to Rond. He would not allow himself to always depend on Arthur whenever something dangerous like this happened.

The shadows saw that anther human was attacking them, some of them aimed at Dreigh with their sharp weaponized bodies. He would roll around or run to dodge the attacks while he would also throw some of them away. Arthur was impressed but he did not know for how long can Dreigh last.

Arthur commanded the wind spirits to create a wind barrier around the three remaining remnants and assigned the other one to support Dreigh. He rotated his body in the fastest speed he can with the aid of his ability and released several wind blades which knocked back the shadows surrounding him. With the small opening he created, he rushed beside Dreigh and helped him.

Inside the wall, Endo slowly created a small fire on his hands and concentrated all his effort in making the fire brighter as he could. Slowly the fire shown brighter and brighter until Vira could see Endo who has his eyes closed and Rond who was sweating profusely while maintaining the wall. He did not speak but also focused on supporting Endo.

Arthur felt the change inside the barrier and was glad that Endo had succeeded. "Now I need you to make that fire bigger," Arthur spoke to the wind spirit while attacking the shadows.

"Okay," Endo subconsciously answered and followed Arthur's instruction. The fire on his palms slowly became bigger.

"Now I want you to compress it into a fire ball," he added to his instruction while Dreigh intercepted the attack aimed at him.

Endo did what Arthur instructed and instinctively focused all the energy he could muster at the center of the fire ball. Arthur knew what Endo had done and silently praised him inside his mind. "At the count of three, I will release the barrier and Rond will also release the wall. After the barrier and the wall disappear I want you to throw the fire ball upwards and explode it."

Endo opened his eyes and waited for the countdown to happen. He did not know if this fire ball will produce the result Arthur wanted but they don't have any other choice. He hoped that whatever Arthur was planning would work and they could escape this situation unscathed. The atmosphere tensed as they waited for Arthur's signal.

"One, two, three…"
