Immediately after the opening ceremony, Satoru went to his classroom 1-S. Being the worst class of the first years it was located on the second floor at the very end of a wing, so it had pretty much the farthest distance from the entrance from all of the classrooms. For Satoru with physical training this walk didn't matter at all. In fact he loved the view from up there, since he could see over most of the campus.
As he entered the classroom many students were already seated. Considering him sitting so far back at the opening ceremony it was only natural to be one of the later people to arrive. A class had 25 students and the tables were put into a 5 x 5 layout. Satoru's seat was in the 4th row right at the window.
Not too long after Satoru sat down an instructor came in. He has blonde hair which is rare in Japan even in this day and age. Looking at his body it was obvious that he was trained in close combat.
"Good morning. My name is Matsuda Akiyama and I am your homeroom teacher. For those people who are receiving sword training I am going to be your instructor too."
Many students who heard the word "training" were immediately excited. There were no real weapons trainings in highschool, so for most of the students in 1-S this was their first time to receive professional training.
"How the courses work was already explained at the opening ceremony, but I am going to repeat it for the students didn't paid any attention or weren't there, because this is rather important. Theoretical courses are held in the big lectures halls by a professor. Afterwards there is reviewing session with a tutor in this room where you can ask questions, but mainly there are going to be exercises for you to solve. It is also strongly recommended to review outside of the lectures."
Satoru was one of the people who paid attention, so had nothing to do and was busy examining his desk. As he expected there was an interface to the secure internal servers of the university. The only way to connect with the interface was through a physical cable, magnetic induction or light packages. Why the university didn't use electromagnetic waves with longer wavelengths is pretty obvious.
"Since today is your first day there is no curriculum. In about an hour the professors are going to introduce themselves in the same lecture hall the opening was held. With this homeroom is over."
Not even a second after Akiyama dismissed the room got loud with all the people talking and chairs moving. This scene reminded more of an highschool class than a university class. Not that anyone cared except for the teacher who needed to shout.
"Ikeda Satoru. I need to talk to you in private."
Satoru was surprised being called out so suddenly. As of now he couldn't think of something he had done at the university that could have gained attention. His results of the entrance exam weren't that extraordinary either with none of the tests being really good or really bad.
At least he wasn't the only one who was surprise. A lot of classmates were surprised how someone could be called out at the first day. The word "private" however indicated that they should leave the classroom quickly and go somewhere else to chat. In around 2 minutes Satoru was the only one left inside the classroom.
"So you are Ikeda Satoru?"
"Yes"
Satoru went to the front of the classroom where the desk of the teacher is located. He was still wondering why he got called.
"0! MELEE!"
Katsumi transmitted a warning of an attack from the front. Without hesitation Satoru jumped back. Soon enough a blade came down right where he was standing. Having just evaded an attack Satoru used this small pause to analyze the situation.
Matsuda Akiyama held a 50 cm long blade in his right hand and was about to use the forward momentum to jump over the desk and attack him again with a horizontal backhand swipe. His current velocity was 0 as well as the acceleration. Moving back again was not an option, since Akiyama's velocity and acceleration was greater than his.
Next what he considered was moving sideways which was difficult with left and right being blocked by table and chairs. The only way to get out of this situation was moving forward right into the opponent. Having no choice other than to move forward Satoru placed his feet in a way indicating that he was going take another leap back, but in a split second he changed the position and took a leap forward.
Akiyama was surprised by Satoru's move. It took him half a second to realize the bluff, because no one who was sane would jump into the direction of a blade. By that time he already launched himself into the air and couldn't do any corrections.
Even in the air Akiyama was sure of his victory. There is limited amount what Satoru could do to him in the span of a jump. He prepared for an upcoming confrontation by initiating the swing of the blade, only to be surprised by another trick by Satoru. His initial leap forward wasn't the fastest he could go. With a sudden dash Satoru could lower the time of the confrontation making Akiyama's preparations useless.
The confrontation happened mid air. Akiyama didn't had time to position his sword correctly, thus Satoru could safely use his inertia to block the swing with his right hand. The impact this collision had could been greatly felt by Akiyama. He however didn't had time to care about the pain. Satoru's left palm was ready to strike.
Something was off though and it didn't took long for Akiyama to notice. Killing intent. Killing intent loomed in the upcoming strike, something only people with real combat experience could emit. Upon feeling such a threat Akiyama's body felt a huge adrenaline rush and his training kicked in. He curled a bit moving his center of mass closer to the pivot point, thus speeding his rotation and braced for the hit.
The hit didn't came. Akiyama just felt how Satoru using his right hand pushed him to the right and let go leaving him in a spiral spin. As for Satoru, he used the push as torque and did a counter clockwise spin with his body under the blade without touching it.
Now in a uncontrollable spin Akiyama tried somehow to soften the landing. Using the physics of torque he could at least change the rotational speed. Another problem was that due to the clockwise spin he is forced to counteract this spin by using his right hand, the hand which held the sword. Losing the sword on impact with the ground, potentially giving it to the enemy was not an option. Due to his training he was able to absorb the impact and not lose his sword while making a flip to stand back on his feet again.
"You won. I concede."
