"WAIT A minute, Grandma, what are we doing here in the salon at this hour?" I asked Grandma Yna when I got home from work and saw her waiting in the front door of Chrys' condo.
Then all of a sudden, she pulled me into her car. And now we're at David's salon. It was four o'clock in the afternoon.
It has been a week since we went shopping for the baby clothes, but she left me solo with Chrys and now she's here again but don't be judgmental, I so love her and I'm glad that she became part of my family.
"It's your husband's birthday today and I want you to look more extra beautiful tonight." she said.
Then she quickly pulled me infront of the vanity mirror inside the salon and a makeup artist popped up from nowhere.
But wait, today is Chrys' birthday? Oh? I thought he was a February baby because he has this weird personality and a bit insane. JK!
"I was waiting for you and to tell you that I reserved a dinner date for the both of you in an exclusive resto." Grandma said.
I smiled secretly. Grandma would surely beat Mr. Cupid for being a match maker! But speaking of Chrys, he left earlier for work and I didn't see him at the company, or maybe he celebrated his special day alone.
"I want him to be the happiest tonight and you are the medium to bring him that happiness, will you do that for me?" Grandma pleaded. "He's always emotional whenever this day come. When he was still with Angela, her ex-girlfriend, they often celebrate his birthday. But over the past five years, he had been celebrating alone." Grandma explained.
Awts! For sure, he loved Angela so much. I can say that she's kinda lucky to have a loyal man who loved her the most even though she left and hurt him for the longest time. I sighed.
And all of a sudden I felt someone removed my shoes--and it was Grandmother! Then she put a new pair of beautiful doll shoes.
"This pair of shoes is well-suited to the dress I bought for you." She smiled.
I'm a bit shy. "Thanks, Grandma."
The makeup artist clipped my bangs, fixed a little on my thick eyebrows and then applied a light make-up and lipstick.
A few minutes later, the makeup artist said that my makeup was done, so, Grandma pulled me over to the fitting room and there she handed me the above knee dress. It has an elbow sleeve and it has a fushia color. When I look in the mirror — I look like a doll — a voodoo doll! JK! I didn't see the old me, I see a very cute girl. Wait, is that really me?
As soon as I left the fitting room, Grandma's eyes widened and smiled. I also smilef shyly.
"You look so gorgeous!" she said happily. I'm a bit embarrassed, then I could feel my cheeks warm. "But sorry to tell you, hija, you have to pick him up at the bar where he is right now, before you can take him to the fine garden resto that I reserved for the both of you. Good luck! " she said.
I scratched my head. Do i really need to pick Chrys at the bar? Yeah, i guessed so. But before Grandma took me to the bar where Chrys was, she said I had to buy Chrys a birthday present, so, I went to a jewelry shop.
I saw an infinity necklace that really captivated my eyes, it was really beautiful and it was also pricey, worth five thousand pesos! But I didn't realize that already gave my ATM card. and it was being swiped away — gosh!
I don't know, but I really adorned the necklace with a pendant symbol of infinity. God! This is my first time giving an expensive gift to someone!
WHEN I entered the expensive bar where Chrys was, everybody was already celebrating! The whole bar seems to be reserved for Chrys' birthday party.
I was about to enter when I was suddenly remember my look— yes I was pretty, but I'm not used to this kind of appearance.
And he was with his friends, how could i invite him for our dinner without getting tease? I look around. A few moments later. Aha! I have a bright idea!
I quickly pulled the male waiter outside. "Brotha, I have a favor to ask," I told him. "Can you bring that guy over here because I need to talk to him." And I pointed to Chrys.
"Why don't you just come in? Aren't you invited? " the waiter asked.
"Don't ask any more questions, just call that man over there, please."
"What about my thing?" he asked, then he held out his hand. As if he was asking for a talent fee.
Argh! "How about this thing?" Then I threatened him with my knuckles before I pushed him inside. A few minutes later he came out--with someone and not Chrys!
"Sir, she said," pointing at me. "She wants to talk to you." The man blinked at me and smiled widely.
I was quickly taken aback because I didn't know who that man. I shook my head. The waiter's eyes were blurry, I told him to call the tall, handsome man not tall looking owl.
"I'm sorry, you're not the one I wanted to talk to." I said, and I immediately dismissed him.
This waiter was an epic fail. As I think of other possible ways, I looked across the street and it seemed like there was a party over there too! There are balloons, loud music and clowns — they look like they have a night party. Wait, Clown? Well ...
CHRYSLER's POV
"All right! Just have fun, fellas! Cheers! " I sighed.
Today is my birthday, I should be happy, right? But why can't I just smile? Why am I still sad? In my five years of celebration without Angela, I should get used to it, but I still can't.
I should be celebrating on my own now, but I saw my college friends and they remembered my birthday, so we ended up here and rented the whole place.
Okay, I'm laughing but I'm not happy. That's a big difference. I walked away from them and sat in the corner. Maybe it's high time for me to forget her. Maybe we weren't really meant for each other. I'm going to have a family soon. This must be my fate.
"Wait, why is there a clown?" I heard Jayson say. This friend of mine is now a Doctor.
"Dre, did you call a clown?" said Ryan, my friend who's now a successful CPA.
A clown? I hesitated to ask myself. This is a bar and not a circus, how come there's a clown here? I was about to going to stand up when the clown suddenly appeared in front of me. Arghhh! I gor startled!
"Who the hell are you?" I asked the clown who looked weird.
"I am someone who will make your birthday a happy one. Happy Birthday! " The clown says, then handed me a red balloon. Who is this person? And how did he know my Birthday?
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Don't mind me! You looked so sad, so I'm here to makw you happy. " the clown said, I presumed she's a girl because she sounded one. Then she started dancing like crazy. I sighed and shook my head. But I didn't notice that a smile slipped through my lips. "Waaah! You smiled! " she said.
I smiled? So, it's that a big deal? But wait, she sounded so familiar — hmm... where did i hear this familiar voice? I moved my face to look at her deeply. She became more familiar with me, but because of the thick makeup she put on her face, I couldn't tell.
She quickly turned away from me. Hmm .. I was holding my chin, wondering who she was. Wait! Don't tell me she is - I quickly took the handkerchief out of my pocket, then grabbed her by the arm and quickly wiped her thick make up. My eyes widened as I realized who she was — Chinky!
"What are you doing here?" I asked her, then I removed the yellow afro wig she was wearing.
She bites her lower lip. "Uhm--"
"Who is she?" my college friends approached us.
"Who is this clown?" Paul asked.
"She is my — ahh someone I knew." I answered.
"You looked so funny with that clown costume, girl!" Paul threw at Chinky and then laughed.
"Oh really? Thank you, you too, your horror mask thing, really suited you too." She answered back, I almost laughed out loud in her response.
"Mask? I'm not wearing a mask! " angry Paul said.
The rest of us didn't help but laughed. Paul seemed to be offended by what Chinky said, so he quickly grabbed Chinky's arm tightly.
"Leave me alone, you old hog!" complained by Chinky. I was about to move to help Chinky when Paul suddenly became hysterical.
"Old hog? Me?!"
"Of course, I was only talking to you, right?" she answered Paul.
I was shaking my head in stress. This little girl seems fearless. I quickly tapped Paul's shoulder.
"Enough, dre, you're drunk." I said.
But Paul stubbornly pushed his grip on Chinky's arm even more. Her arm was red and she was hurting too.
"Paul, enough!" our other friends also tried to stop him but he was too furious.
So, I grabbed his hand that held Chinky's arm, and then I pulled it all out. He was too strong because of he is a big man but I was still able to removed his grip on Chinky.
"Why are you defending that clown, dre?" Paul asked me. "Give way dre, I've never get my revenge from that clown!" he added.
Just as he was about to strike Chinky's arm again —I quickly gave him a big kame-hame wave punch on the face as he dropped to the floor.
Then I told Jayson to take care of everything. I quickly left the bar, holding Chinky's hand, as if she was surprised by what I had done. We quickly got into my car and hurried off at that place.
"What are you doing there? You should be sleeping already. Remember, you already have a baby inside you! " preaching me.
CHINKY's POV
Chrys had a lot of preaching to me, but that didn't come to my mind. Yes, it goes to my ear, but it comes out the other way too. Anyway, I was really surprised when he hit that old hog at the bar a while ago.
"Hey, are you listening?" he asked me. I only realized when he stopped the car on the side of the road. "Did you get hurt by that fat guy? Was the baby surprised at what happened? " he said, so, I laughed out loud. "What's funny?" he wrinkled his forehead.
"N-Nothing." I said.
I wiped the tears from my eyes because of his reactions, which was funny. Did he ask that question because he was worried for the baby in my stomach?
I thought he was going to criticize me for insulting his friend a while ago, but he callef his friend 'fat guy', I just coundn't help but laugh again. He began to start the car.
"We're going home, it's late—"
"Wait!" I yelled! So, he immediately stopped the car in a bit panic.
"Why are you suddenly yelling?"
"Uhm, we have somewhere to go!"
"No! It's getting late. Let's go home--"
"No! We have some place to go just hurry up and listen to my instructions! " I commanded.
"What?"
"No more questions, please!" Then he obeyed me. Me as a human GPS going to the Golden garden resto.
WHEN we got to the Golded garden resto, I quickly got off the car, and he immediately followed. My eyes fluttered when I saw the whole Golden Garden, it was awesomely beautiful.
It was like, I was in paradise surrounded by different beautiful flowers and trees. Small bulbs of various colors also surrounded the trees, the freshness the air... Hmmm .. the pleasure of feeling the air wrapping around my body. I took a deep breath, to feel the fresh and cool air.
But I felt something wrapped around my body. I cheeks got warmth when I saw Chrysler's coat on my shoulder. So, I immediately looked at him but he avoided looking.
"I-I did that for the baby." He says.
But I still couldn't help but smile. When Chrys continues to be this gentleman, maybe one day I might develop a crush on him. Crush, really? Am I a high school student?
"So, what are we doing here?" he asked.
"Just wait!"
When the waiter saw us, he quickly led us to a place where everything was ready — table, food and stuffs!
But wait! I am still wearing my clown costume! How can that be a romantic ambiance when I look funny?
I excused myself to get change. It's not that I've wanted to look good, it's because the dress that Grandma bought me might be a waste.
When I returned to the table, Chrys was already sitting there. He looks so sad. He looks like a bankrupted Chinese! How can I make him happy?
I approached him quickly. "Do I have to sing to make you happy?" Then I sat down in the opposite chair. "Come on, it's your birthday today!"
But it sounds like a bad idea for me to sing— because it will rain, for sure and our dinner date might be ruined. Don't just agree with me. I waited for him to speak but he remained silent. Is he really missing Angela?
"Hey, these foods look delicious, let's eat!" I said.
Then I started to eat, but suddenly felt nauseated. I didn't like the taste of the food. But I didn't want to lose his appetite because of me, so I just kept eating. Then he started eating. I smiled. But as we were busy eating, we were surprised to hear a loud blast tand the lights were dead.
I was super shocked so I stood up! What was that? Is there a hidden bomb?! Oh my God! Is Osama Bin Laden still alive? I started to panic! Help! S-O-S! Then I was drawn to pray. Until I could feel that there were hard arms around my body. So, I quickly realized. It was — Chrysler hugging me tightly.
My heart began to pound quickly. Was he trying to protect me from that thing that suddenly broke up? That's sweet. My cheeks keep warm.
He still hugging me. Only the light from the cresent moon served as our light at that moment, as the small bulbs that served as our light had just exploded.
I could hear the beating of his heart because my ear was fixed to his chest. How I wished that heart beats was my name.
My eyes widened with that thought. Am I crazy?! Without the nuisance of the waiter behind us, it was as if he had no intention of leaving me in his arms. He quickly left me.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience sir, ma'am, if you want to move in, it's okay, but if you really want to stay here, I've brought candles."
The waiter explained to us what happened and later he put a candle on our table and lit it immediately. I smiled secretly. The whole environment became more romantic. A candlelit dinner date.
"Thank you." Chrys and I both said to the waiter, and then we sat down again.
My heart is still beating so hard and so fast. This is amazing! I looked at him but when our eyes met, we both avoided. We quickly finished our meal and then headed back to the condo. It was a happy birth-date indeed.
I SAW Chrys take his big teddy bear out of the condo. When he got out, I quickly peeked out of my bedroom window, letting him see that big teddy bear in the garbage can! I think he love that teddy bear. Why is he throwing it away?
When Chrys threw the big teddy bear on trash bin, he came back inside the Condo. I heard the door to the other room open, he seemed to enter his room.
Once again, I glanced at the teddy bear on the road. It felt like pity for me. And when I saw the garbage truck coming up, I quickly went out of my room — I would get that teddy bear back. I know he loved that thing, I just don't know why he did it. When I got out of the house, the teddy bear was in the truck already.
"Wait a minute!" I shouted, for the car to stop. But they didn't hear me. So, I started running to catch the truck. It's like I'm having my morning exercise. "Brotha, wait!" I shouted again but it was useless. I am very tired. It's been a while since I've had no exercise like this. "Wait for me!" I said out loud.
My tongue was fluttering so softly. Waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit up, brotha! I shouted in my mind, wishing that they have an ESP!
