Chapter 1 - Grass Snake

In the vast green scenery of the outer regions of the Great Star Dou Forest, where plentiful of wild fauna and spirit beast roams, a little insignificant ordinary Grass Snake was busy slithering about on the ground.

It was clear to the audience's eyes that the little ordinary Grass Snake, was by no means ordinary, as it possesses some form of intelligence and thinking capacity, rivalling that of an average adult human. It glares ominously at its entire surroundings, scanning for any signs of a living creature within its facility.

Yao Zi's fork tongue flickering in and out, appearing somewhat threatening, but it is in fact trying to get a better sense of its surroundings by 'tasting' the air.

Although snakes do have nostrils, they mainly used their tongues to pick up the lingering chemical scent that is released or emitted off of nearby preys and predators.

'Phew...' Yao Zi thought so to himself, as he then wipes off his non-existent sweat.

Having detected no signs of living signatures within the perimeter range of detection skill, Yao Zi then breathes in a sigh of relief, but nevertheless, he didn't relaxed and was still quite cautious of his entire surroundings. So he decided to immediately hide himself within the nearby bushes.

His lime green coloured snake scales, perfectly matches the green colours of the bush leaves, thereby giving him the perfect hidden camouflage.

Yao Zi's Grass Viper like snake body is roughly around three and a half inches long, somewhat resembling the Grass Snake (Gold Song) Tang Wulin's first spirit soul in Douluo Dalu 3.

It has been an entire day since he was forcefully reincarnated, and life wasn't quite exactly easy for him.

And during his time discovering, he quickly learned that he was reincarnated into the world of the Douluo Dalu franchise. Reborn not as a human, nor spirit beast human hybrid, but as a full-on pure-blooded spirit beast.

And that wasn't easy, God knows how long it will take for Yao Zi to reach the point where he is able to fend off by himself and protect himself from other spirit beasts.

In the meantime, whilst he is busy waiting for any potential preys to wander about, accidentally entering into the range of his striking distance, Yao Zi then spends his carefree spare time cultivating in order to increase his cultivation base, and solidify himself a place within the food chain.

Yao Zi then curled his body up and forked his tongue out, whilst at the same time, he is instinctively absorbing the rich abundance of spiritual power within the facility.

[Skill Proficiency has reached maxed proficiency. The Skill {Basic Breathing Exercises Lv.1} has been acquired!]

The skill {Basic Breathing Exercises} is one of the basic preliminary skills you would need as a requirement in order to unlock the {Meditation} skill, as meditation is simply about controlling ones own breathe and naturally attuning their bodies to nature itself.

[Through practice meditation your spiritual power has been increased by 1 point!]

Thanks to the help of the system, Yao Zi was able to easily gauge his powers and indefinitely record his progress.

Yao Zi was not very intelligent, cunning or skilled in a particular field, and neither was he blessed with any underlying overpowered cheats as all typical main protagonists have, but what he has is knowledge.

With the knowledge of future events that lies within the story, plotlines and essential fateful encounters. Also, knowledge through the experience of reading many cultivation type novel, surely he will try his best in order to survive within this cruel cultivation world.

Steadily rising from the bottom of the food chain to become a tall and towering dragon, at the top of the food chain, and having reached the peak of spirit beast cultivation.

Yao Zi was preoccupied with cultivation, sometimes nibbling on a bit of leaf from the nearby bushes, in order to fill in the space of his starving stomach to somewhat temporarily satisfied his hunger.

The sounds of the bush leaves rustling quite loudly, as it immediately alerted Yao Zi of its presence, and a lone figure then emerged.

A fortuitous encounter has come by too suddenly that it made him almost skipped a heartbeat, as the lone creature then steadily made its own way over towards him, which turns out to be a lone 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast, who was looking for food and scavenging for any edible bits that lay seeminglessly within the forest.

'A fortuitous wild encounter!' Yao Zi then screams excitedly inside of his head, as he stares intently at the absentmindedly wandering Forest Mice.

He then quietly observed the 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast from his hidden hiding spot, awaiting patiently for the creature to enter within his short striking distance.

It sure took its time, but when it was near inches away from Yao Zi's hiding location, he then immediately strikes. Utilising his curved body as a bouncing spring to suddenly propel himself forwards, and quickly closing the short distance in between them, within seconds.

Yao Zi then opens his snake mouth quite wide, revealing a pair of non-poisonous snake fangs, which then quickly latches onto the main body of the 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast.

The two pairs of razor-sharp snake fangs quickly sunk into the flesh of the 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast, as it directly pierces through the creature's skin and flesh, and letting out a slight splatter of flesh blood. The 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast then lets out a blood-curdling scream, as it then runs rampant around trying desperately to get Yao Zi off of its body.

However, Yao Zi was firmly attached to the now dying 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast, as he is slowly letting the creature tired itself out, so that it would make it much easier to kill it later.

Not shortly afterwards, the 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast then tired itself out, and quickly died due to the constant blood loss from the ongoing constant wound caused by Yao Zi's snake bite.

[You have successfully killed a 10 (2) years old Forest Mice spirit beast! Plus 2 blood essence points! ]

The warm blood of the now-deceased 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast dribbling down his fangs from the deceased creature's opened wounds, thereby entering his mouth.

The taste was not at all unpleasant, just a bit irony and metallic, but most of all it felt refreshing and invigorating.

'My first kill as a spirit beast! I've done it! I managed to kill something with my own hands!' Yao Zi exclaimed excitedly inside his head, as he then started swallowing the dead carcass of the recently deceased 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast.

Blood essence points are essentially the lifeforce of the spirit beast, and the consumable upgrade skill points used by the levelling system.

So when Yao Zi kills a spirit beast. Its own lifeforce gets converted into blood essence points and then immediately sucked into Yao Zi's body by the levelling system. The blood essence points are used as consumable upgrade skill points to increased an individual's attribute stats, upgrade skills, develop the host bloodline, and such.

It took some time for Yao Zi to swallow the dead carcass of the 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast, as he was still not used to it, but nevertheless, he made it through and somehow got the task done.

After swallowing whole the dead carcass of the 10 years old Forest Mice spirit beast, he quickly slithers his body to a nearby bush, and immediately went into hiding waiting for his body to slowly digest the food that he just ate.

Yao Zi then resumes his cultivation, never lazying around, and always continuing to further improve himself in order to improve his odds and chances of survival.

Once nightfall quickly approaches, Yao Zi then immediately curls up his body, and hid his body within the deepest spots of the bushes, out of reach, and out of sight of any nearby predators. The night is when the nocturnal predator type spirit beast would roam, and they are generally far more dangerous during the night, especially with low visibility during night hours.

And especially snake and reptiles like Yao Zi, who are cold-blooded, where they will need the light and the warmth of the sun in order to warm up their bodies. Will they be at their most vulnerable state.
