A few of the blobs recoiled and I heard someone gasp.
"I'm sorry, what?"
One of them said in an offended tone.
"Um, dye, like colors."
I said as I looked at the blobs in confusion.
"Did I say something wrong?"
I said as I shrank down in my chair.
I heard someone hold in a squeal.
"Nothing! Nothing at all, we thought you said something else."
Someone said while waving what I assume is their arms in denial.
"But... We do want to know what your name is. Could you please tell us?"
She asked like she was talking to a child.
I was still feeling light-headed, so I didn't bother correcting her.
"It's Dye."
I said, cleaning the last of my plate.
"Your name is Dye?"
She said in a skeptical tone.
"Yes, Dyed pigment."
I saw them give each other what I assume were questioning looks.
"Is that what your mommy called you?"
'Don't correct them. Don't correct them. If they think you're that young, they won't believe you if you tell the truth anyway.'
*sigh
"No."
"What did she call you then?"
She said, still in that sweet kiddie tone.
"Nothing."
I saw one of the blobs shifting in the corner.
'Sweet sanctuary, I think he's got it.'
"Your mom must have called you something."
A couple of other blobs seem to have caught on as well.
'Welp, time to drop the bomb.'
"I don't have a mom; or a dad."
I tried to reply with a matter of fact voice, but my throat was dry. So it came out raspy and burst into a coughing fit before I could finish.
Most of the people had a feeling, but I could still see them cringe as I coughed up a storm.
I heard a chair move and footsteps.
I knew instinctively what was coming, but I was too busy coughing to move.
I felt arms wrap around me just as I found the blurry image of my cup.
"I'm so sorry *Shh *Shh Don't cry, everything's fine now."
'Fine! Fine! What part of me looks fine right now!? How does my coughing sound like crying any way!?"
I coughed even harder and tears started to stream from my eyes as her hold kept me from the life-giving liquid on the table.
Soon everyone else came over and joined in the hug.
I struggled harder until one of my arms came free but the cup was too far.
In a moment of brilliance, I grabbed the table cloth and pulled it towards me.
I chugged the thing down as fast as I could and took deep breaths of air.
"That's right, let it all out. It's all right."
'I'll pay you back for this, and it will be painful.'
That was the first breakfast that almost killed me because of an assumption, and it would be far from the last.

After managing to convince the room that I had 'stopped' crying, we got ready to go out.
"Do you need some help with the shoes, sweetie?"
The fey with the gloves, Thread, asked me as I used the wall to shuffle towards the door.
I could see her blob hanging by what I assume is a doorway.
I nodded, knowing that I could use the help finding them.
*squeal
And she ran off, her footsteps fading as she disappeared behind a corner. I barely had any time to wait as she came back a second later.
"I'm baaaaack!"
She sang in a cheery tone.
'Yes, I know your back. You literally left for like a second. Why are you announcing it to this blind 'child?''
"All right, sweetie. Just take my hand and I'll help you put these on."
She paused to gently wiggle her hand in front of my face so I could find it.
I was very appreciative of the gesture.
"Thanks."
I said as I grabbed it with no problems. I couldn't help but notice the excellent craft of the gloves now that I wasn't completely exhausted.
They were really soft and felt like a natural extension of her hand.
I wanted it.
I was so distracted by the gloves that I didn't even notice that we made it to a chair.
It was only after she held me by the waist that I realized the change.
"Alright, upsidaisy."
She said as she lifted me into the chair.
"Now, here we go."
She said as she started putting the shoes on for me.
'You really didn't have to do that, you know. They're buckles, not rocket science.'
But she still considered me as a small child and treated me as such.
"Alright, is everyfey ready to leave?"
The 'mom' asked the house and got a round of confirmation in return.
Like that, we were off!
