Chapter 112 - Secrets (1)

"Merry," the voice of a woman echoed throughout the somewhat empty and dark room, "What should we do to keep her from getting the information?"

The room was cold, but the sun shone through the big window at the back that provided a decent amount of warmth and light. The perspectives of the woman warped around the whole house; her secrets were nearly discovered. The accident already gave her such a huge advantage though the sequence was a little unfortunate.

"I already have received my child. There is nothing else I would want; however, I cannot give her the love I intended to," she added, "It's a very unfortunate love, don't you think?"

Merry had cold eyes. She was too focused at her boss' affairs that she could not even find the words to speak in a comforting manner. They both glanced at each other before the woman spoke again.

"The document, burn it and get it out of my sight. Make sure no one will see it. My daughter's in the presence of her enemy, so find her after."

Merry flinched for a second before speaking, "Understood" Her throat was clear as she excused herself out of the room.

Exhaustion crept all over Sharmaine's body as she entered the perimeters of her existing home. The peace was tranquil, and as she took heavy yet little strides, she gradually felt the loneliness and unsettling silence within the house walls.

The hallways were bright, but unlively. There was just one maid that did the housework for years, and it wouldn't be surprising if she would retire sooner or later; it did not even cross her mind that she might have been working in the household for all her life—it'll just make anyone wonder if she even has a family.

When Sharmaine opened her bedroom door, she was suddenly overwhelmed by the waft of hot air as if it was an oven burning slowly for an infinite amount of time. Her sweat was dripping down as it ruined her mood to rest. She then quickly got in and dashed straight to the air conditioner's remote control to turn it on, heading to the bathroom after.

She laid down her body on the soft mattress when she got dressed in loose clothing; unconsciously looking back on what she and Denzel did today. It was just a simple outing; however, her heart was not on the same page as her mind. She wriggled and bounced around the bed, trying to convince herself that it was all business, when she suddenly heard heavy footsteps of someone walking by.

She did not think of anything weird—it was just probably Merry running some errands—but nonetheless, she was curious as to who it might have been, so she slowly crept toward the door to find out what she'd been up to lately. She peaked through the tiny gap, and saw Merry's back. She was standing still, looking at the brown paper she held. It was not as close of a view, but Merry definitely seemed bothered.

"Should I… follow her?"
