Merry held the envelope on her hand; her mind was hesitating, however she thought to herself that an order was an order. She then silently paced the hallways, trying to make sure that none were tailing her.
It's a good thing that the only people in the mansion were the old lady and the two mistresses.
She was just ordered to burn the document, and never look at the contents, however, she was very much skeptical upon what laid in the mysterious document. There were no labels anywhere; it was a clean and blank slate that needed to disappear as soon as possible.
When she proceeded to walk very silently, Sharmaine tried to tail her. Merry kept looking back, but luckily Sharmaine was able to hide just in time. It was at that moment that she found herself very fast on reflexes and feet. Eventually, Merry came at the back of the garden.
It was a weird sight as she had not seen that place before. There were remains of a stone building kept hidden by the tall and short trees. Strangely, the flat and grassy area remained up until the little wide mound on the very end. The top was black and it seemed like something was burned there not too long ago.
Sharmaine kept spying on Merry, and before her eyes were a ball of blazing fire. And in the fire, the document was burned until it all disappeared. It was very much amazing, however, the burned envelope peaked Sharmaine's interest—too bad that it disappeared and turned into ashes.
I wonder, Sharmaine thought, what could the envelope had that they have to burn it just to disappear.
Sharmaine saw Merry stand up, so she panicked a little bit. She wanted to avoid being seen, but she also wanted to search a little more. She had to make a decision quick; she returned to the mansion without being seen. When she got at the doorstep, she felt her heart beating loud as her sweat dripped onto her shoulders.
"Miss, why are you sweaty?"
That voice startled her. "Oh, Merry. I… it's hot! Yeah… I'll return to my room now." She pulled out a forced smile that may or may not have creeped Merry out, so she just awkwardly ran towards her room, shutting the door with all her strength.
"That was close," she mumbled to herself. Her head was spinning a little as soon as she laid down on the soft mattress. Her heart was slowly calming, until the old woman suddenly knocked loudly.
"Miss, lunch is served. Would you like to eat in your quarters, or do you want to eat at the dining room?"
Sharmaine sighed. "I'll head over to the dining room in a minute."
Silence hit the room once again. Her heart was beating normally, and her head was still rested upon her stack of pillows. She rolled to the side; the cold air touching her skin. Her stomach was slightly moving inside as it slowly grumbled.
"Ah, lunch may not be that bad."
