Chereads / Apocalypse Summoning / Chapter 9 - Losing More than Half

Chapter 9 - Losing More than Half

After taking a brief glance all around him, Kio noticed that some items also got brought over here along with their group.

Kio's group of three were each carrying a backpack filled with food and water. The luggage with their daily necessities were also right behind them.

Looking over at Jay and the others, he could see them holding some metal pipes and sticks. One of them was also holding onto a shopping basket with a bit of food.

Much to his surprise, he saw a few shelves beside their group, filled with junk such as phone cases, chargers, and earbuds.

Another shelf off to the side had female garments, such as shirts, skirts, socks, and underwear.

Lastly, there was a shelf that was only a few meters away from the zombies, but it was filled with snacks such as chocolate bars, potato chips, and candy.

Quickly planning the optimal steps they should take before the zombies notice them, Kio decided to store his backpack into his inventory.

"Riko, Yuki, quickly store your backpacks into your inventory," Kio quietly advised the two girls, trying to hide their bag of food and water before the others notice.

"Eh?"

Confusion appeared on their faces after hearing Kio's words.

'Oh shit, don't tell me they didn't ask about the inventory in the white space. I hope they at least chose their class.'

Hoping for the best, Kio proceeded to use [Inspect] on the two girls.

Name: Riko

Age: 20

Class: Spiritualist

---

Name: Yuki

Age: 23

Class: Runner

"..."

Kio was speechless looking at their classes.

'How did Riko come up with the Spiritualist class? And what kind of class is Runner…'

Although he was surprised at their unique classes, Kio recalled how much information he saw when he used [Inspect] on himself earlier.

Compared to the girls, he could clearly see more details about himself. He couldn't see their skills nor could he see their last names.

Realizing that it's probably from the low level of his [Inspect] skill, he decided to use it again in the future when his level is a bit higher.

"Riko, Yuki, since you two have classes, you should be able to use inventory. Just visualize putting the backpack away into a space pocket while having contact with it,"

Complying with his instructions, the girls tried to store their backpacks.

Looking at how hard it is for them to use inventory, he decided to be the one to store the three luggage.

Placing his hand on the first luggage packed with his stuff, he successfully stored it away.

However, when he tried to store the other two luggage, he found out that he couldn't put it into his inventory.

Although this confused him for a second, he decided to try using [Inspect] on the two remaining luggage.

Item: Luggage

Owner: Riko

Item: Luggage

Owner: Yuki

"What's this owner thing…?"

Although he didn't know the purpose of the owner description, he decided to use a different approach.

He turned to the two girls and noticed that Riko successfully stored her backpack while Yuki is still struggling.

'I hope this works, party invite to... Riko and Yuki.'

"Eh?"

The two girls quietly exclaimed at the same time.

"What's wrong?" Kio asked, even though he had an inkling that it should be related to the party invite he sent them.

"Umm… something popped up in my vision. There's a message that says you sent us a party invite with a yes or no confirmation beside it."

Riko explained what she saw, neither accepting or rejecting the invite.

"Oh, I was just testing this out. I remembered the System Admin mentioned a party feature while he was explaining about the [Minimap] skill. Try accepting it. You too, Yuki."

"Okay."

The two girls quickly accepted the party invite and Kio could see their names show up in his field of vision at the [Minimap] Screen.

'Okay, let's try this again. If it doesn't work, we will just need to take more time for the girls to store these into their inventory.'

Placing his hand on the two luggage again, he managed to successfully store the remaining luggage this time.

Glancing towards Yuki, he noticed that she finally managed to store her backpack inside her inventory.

Right as they finished storing their items, the zombies surrounding them reacted.

Tensing up, Kio and Jay's group all huddled up closer to the center of the circle.

However, much to their surprise, the zombies jumped and dashed away from them.

"Ouch, something just bit my foot."

"AHHH IT HURTS!"

Screams erupted a bit further away from the zombies.

Realizing that there must be people even closer to the zombies and attracted their attention, everyone in the group breathed a sigh of relief.

Although this doesn't mean they're safe, but at least they don't have to immediately fight the zombies.

During this small moment of rest, Kio decided to look at some of the classes chosen by the people in this group.

Although he expected as much, he saw the classes that he wasn't allowed to pick before, such as Hero, Magic Swordsman, Sage, Magician, and Priest.

Although there were a few classes that were a bit weird, he noticed one girl was classless.

Shaking his head in disapproval, he then discovered something that made him have a cold sweat.

'Oh fuck, this guy must've read a lot of isekai light novels. To think he chose Plunderer. If my assumptions are correct, he might be able to steal other people's skills.'

Reminding himself to stay away from that guy in the future, Kio spoke, "Jay, looks like you picked the Hero class before me. Congrats on having such a strong class."

"Haha, thanks. I half jokingly chose Hero when I heard a voice that asked me to choose a class."

"Lucky bastard. Did you check the skills and items in the starter pack yet?" Kio asked, wanting to know if Jay was smart enough to acquire valuable information earlier.

"Yea, I was surprised when I heard about the Teleportation Crystal. Who would've expected that we would receive such a powerful item. Being able to return home at anytime is a godsend, especially since we're trapped here."

"I agree, however I wouldn't use it right now-"

Before Kio could finish, he got cut off by someone in their group.

"Jay! Did you say we can go back home?!"

"Yep. As long as you reach into your inventory to grab this Teleportation Crystal out, you will be able to go home by holding it and picturing where you wish to go."

Taking out the Teleportation Crystal briefly to show the group, Jay quickly put it back into his inventory afterwards since he didn't plan to use it yet.

As soon as he explained about the uses of the crystal and how to take it out, many people began to copy Jay's actions and took out the Teleportation Crystal.

Predicting what they were about to do, Kio quietly exclaimed, "Wait, no! Don't use it yet, your home might not be safe!"

Ignoring his words, about a dozen people immediately faded away after their crystals shattered.

"Fuck! We just lost more than half of our combat power!" Kio shouted, frustrated at the decision of the people who left.

Luckily for him, the zombies around them were too busy attacking the guards and residents at this time, so the zombies didn't hear his shout.

"Isn't it fine if they go back home?" Jay asked, feeling like it wasn't a bad choice.

"Not necessarily. What if their home has zombies in it or they don't have food at home? They will now have to scavenge for food separately."

"Ah! I didn't think that far ahead."

"Well, what's done is done. We can't do anything about it now. Let's just hope for the best for ourselves and for the people who just left us."

Using [Inspect] again, Kio wanted to know which classes were still here.

'Fuck! That guy with the Plunderer class is still here and we lost our Priest. Great, this just turned into hell mode.'

Frustrated at the turn of events, Kio quietly told his group, "Hey guys, let's quickly store the supplies on the shelves over there before finding a way to break through from the zombies."

"Good idea, I'll divide up the snacks between the 8 of us." Voicing out his task, Jay wanted to become the leader of the remaining people.

Proud of selecting the Hero class, Jay felt like it was only natural for him to be the leader.

Although he acted differently prior to being summoned, choosing the Hero class really inflated his ego. With all the anime and novels he watched or read in the past, he had always dreamed of being a hero of his own fantasy adventure after getting reincarnated or transmigrated.

After he gave each person their own portion of snacks, Jay asked, "Does anyone even want the rest of these junk? There's only phone accessories and female clothing."

Riko, Yuki, and the last girl in the group quickly spoke up, "We would like to take some of the clothes."

"Alright."

Understanding their reasons, Jay nodded and let them take whatever they wanted since nobody cared about the rest of these things.

"Hey Riko, can you help me grab some for Kaori? You should also pick a few for Miyu, since we can use the Teleportation Crystal to bring them over later once we find somewhere safe," Kio voiced out his idea to Riko

"You don't want to use the crystal to return home with them instead?" Riko asked, confused about his decision.

"Although that is also an option, I feel like this world might be safer for them, given how little zombies are here compared to our old world."

After thinking about his words, Riko nodded and quickly went to find some clothes that would fit both of their sisters as well as for herself.

"Here you go." After she finished selecting the clothes, she gave Kaori's portion to Kio, accidentally touching his hand in the process.

She quickly retracted her hand and apologized, "S-sorry…"

Feeling a little awkward, Kio quickly stored away the clothes for Kaori and replied, "Ah, um, it's okay..."

When Jay noticed the three girls finished storing their clothes, he excitedly told them, "Hey, I think there's fewer zombies over there. Let's break through that point together."

Jay pointed towards an alley where the number of zombies were thinner.
