Things were hazy as I began to open my eyes. My mind felt fuzzy, like I'd been injected with heavy sleep medication. I looked over to my side to find Victra, my caretaker and teacher gone. I remained in bed, not deigning to even try getting up because my whole body was thrumming for some reason. How long had I been out?
After a few minutes, I began to pick up on a collection of voices outside my room. The walls were thin, but relatively soundproof, so I hadn't noticed at first. As the voices spoke, I remembered where I was as my mind unfogged piece by piece. My dorm, The future, Super powers. Right.
Trying to get up, I remembered my ability and conjured a rock that I chose to throw at the door in hopes of getting the voices attention. They went silent for a moment, and the door freaked open after a click. A familiar face peeking through splashed with worry as I returned its glance with a patient stare, "Hi." I said, sounding rather awkward.
That apparently was of no concern to the onlooker as the door burst open, a gasp of relief exploding from Melanie as the door hit the a piece of fur nature off to the side. Multiple other faces rushed into view as Melly began to tear up as Victra, Leslie and Melly's two twin friends Lily and Sesly. They all watched from the doorframe, giving Melanie a chance to let her relief out before barging in, "Dummy! You sleep like the dead!"
I blinked as the room crowded with woman. Two three more faces joining them as the Headmaster, Subaru followed behind the group with my guardian Thomas and Gabe. I looked around at the collection of gawkers as they stood in a half-circle around my bed. Mister Subaru making his way to the frame to question me as Melanie sniffled. The rest of the woman looked conflicted, but Victra and Leslie looked like they might add to the waterworks any second. The Headmaster spoke up, cutting through the growing silence, "Good Morning, Mister Fantasia. You've had us all worried ... "
I took in the sight one by one. Until yesterday, I'd thought I blew my chance at fitting in, but here everyone was, " Sir, why are all of you in my dorm? And what do you mean that I had you all worried? I don't remember anything crazy happening." The Headmaster sighed, probably knowing this might've been the response as he began to explain, "You've been our for two weeks, James. We thought you were dying."
Victra stepped up and looked at me through reddened eyes. Her voice was nearly choking up, "When I woke up, you were phasing into the Bed, Pierce. I thought you were having another episode so I went to grab the boss. He'd been uh ... addressing the girls, and they didn't want to miss anything, so they're here too." Victra seemed to eye the collection of onlookers skeptically. Each obviously had their own reasons for being here, but Melly seemed absolutely traumatized. Mister Subaru cut in again, ending the explanation, "They were undoubtedly worried about you young man. Tell me. Are you alright? You seem to be ... glowing. Did you have another dream?"
I nodded, looking at my hands to see he was right. My body was surrounded by an aura of luminescent blue. It radiates off my skin faintly and seemed strangely familiar, "Yeah ... I can't remember what it was, though. I think I was someone else ... ?" The throbbing seemed to be concentrating now in my head as I pressed my temple, hoping to alleviate the bothersome feeling so I could think, "I don't know. It felt so real, but I can feel the details fading."
Subaru looked at his colleagues, a quiet message passing between them. The eyes of the students seemed to shift to the teachers as they kept the silent conversation to them self's, while Melanie was too busy staring at me. She'd regained a sense of composure but hadn't taken her eyes off me, like I might go into another coma. Subaru turned back to me after a minute and spoke, clapping his hands together to break the tension, "Well! I think we ought to have a party! To celebrate your return to the living!" -
The Headmaster was obviously hiding something, but company sounded nice. I cleared my throat, the dramatic noise bringing the attention back to me as I spoke a little awkwardly, "A party sounds nice, but I'm not even dressed yet. Could you guys file out so I can put something on?"
There was a heavy silence, which Subaru broke. Speaking above it to make sure his message was heard, "Yes ... right. Alright, let's make scarce!" The Headmaster turned to Leslie and spoke a little more normally, though still loud enough to pick up on, "Call the crew and have them bring up some food and drink. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what we need."
Leslie nodded as the Headmaster broadened his arms and began to shuffle everyone out. To my relief, Melanie looked a lot better. She, and the rest of the onlookers making their way out with Mister Subaru while I waited. Finally, the door shut. A welcoming sense of peace enveloping the room as the visitors went about preparing for the fun. I got up and walked over to the stand-up mirror I'd overlooked when I'd first arrived. It was roughly my height, and cleaner than it should have been. I watched my skin observantly as the visible aura radiated off me. It was most peculiar, "Why does it look so familiar ... "
I was probably short on time for privacy, so shoving that thought aside I moved over to the dresser. Everything in the room seemed to come from my tastes in furniture, not to mention it was all familiar to me. Things from my era, probably to make things simpler on a day-to-day basis. I pulled out some clothing, finding some rather nice black jeans and a plain black T-shirt in the drawer over. My taste for fashion left much to be desired, but that never seemed to matter to me.
Quickly throwing everything on, not mentioning the unmentionables, and turned to grasp the handle. I was about to leave, when I heard a whisper. It spoke almost raspily, almost incoherently, coming from everywhere in the room, "My son ... "
Okay, uh ... spooky. I gave the room a once-over, making sure everyone was gone. Had I imagined that? The voice made no return, but a weight hung in the air as I stood still, grasping the handle. I decided to put it aside as I turned the knob, heading out to the bathroom before I joined the group that was in the outer room, the heavy weight seeming to lift off me as I left the comfort of my dorm bedroom.
