I awoke to the door opening and a tall shadowy figure entering the room. I growled a warning and the figure stopped. The light came on and I saw the agrithian standing with two trays in hand.
"I brought food. I'm not going to fathom a guess when they last fed you."
He sets a tray of some kind of meat on the floor then took a seat in the only chair in the room holding the other tray.
I wait a few before I slowly climb off the bed and move towards the meat. Being cautious I sniff it first. It smells different than I'm used to but I can't smell anything wrong. I put my paw on the tray and drag it back towards the bunk. I nudge Caylee awake. She sits up rubbing her eyes.
"What is it?"
I look at the agrithian. She follows my gaze then sees the food in his lap. Climbing off the bunk she walks to him slowly. As she nears him he hands her the tray and she quickly comes back to me to. I sniff her tray as well.
"It doesn't smell wrong. But I will remember the smell just in case."
She nods and we start to eat. As we eat we both keep an eye on the agrithian sitting across from us. Caylee being curious asks him questions.
"What are you going to do with us?"
"You will be a servant in my home. I have no use for you otherwise. I had actually only wanted the Wolf."
"So you aren't going to use me for well... You know?"
"As a sex slave? No. I have no need for one. My people don't have sex until we meet our ona."
"Ona?"
"Ona. Our one. Our soul mate is another word for it. Our ona is our other half the one that completes us."
"So do many ever find their ona?"
"More than you think. But there are still many who go through life never meeting theirs. It all depends on fate."
"If I am to be a servant what did you want the Wolf for?"
"I wanted him for fighting along side me as my partner watching my back as the humans would say."
"Oh shit" Came Caylee repy.
I'm not a male. Why does everyone assume a Dire wolf is a male. Just because I'm big doesn't mean I'm a guy. I couldn't help my irritation I growled.
"What is wrong with him?"
"Oh shit... You said it again. You might want to apologize quickly before you lose an appendage."
"Apologize for what?"
"The wolf is a Dire wolf and he's a she. Kyra to be exact and she doesn't take to kindly to being assumed she is a he."
His face goes white or as white as a gold skinned alien can go. "I'm sorry I did not mean to assume you were male I just thought you were protecting the human and were therefore male."
I snorted. Of all the arrogant. I shook my head. Calming my anger.
"Yes she is protecting me that is why we were sold as a pair. But the next person who assumes she is a male won't be as lucky as you. She is very sensitive about her gender."
"Very well. I thank you for not reacting to harshly. Now back to what I was saying before. I need a partner when I go into back planets that don't have any law. You protect me I will do the same for you. Do we have a deal?"
I stared at him for a few working over his proposal. I nodded as long as Caylee was kept safe as well.
"She says yes as long as you can guarantee my safety as well."
"Yes I can. But how did you know what she said? She didn't speak."
"Not as you heard her no. She can speak directly to your mind if she so wishes and vice a versa. That is how we speak."
"Im sorry we?"
"Yes we. Her and I that's how she communicates with me. Now you try. To start you will have to be looking at her. But as you get more familiar all you will have to do is think of what you want to say and send it to her."
"I will try then."
He looks at me with a face of concentration. I faintly here his word but its not strong enough to make out.
"Repeat what you said."
He jumps as if I bit him. "She spoke. I have never done that before. I will try again."
"You have my word that I will keep her safe."
"Good you better keep that or you will find a large chunk missing somewhere."
"By the way my name is De'rax. May I know yours?"
"Der 'ack?" My cousin sounded it out and he nodded his head. "My name is Caylee and this is Kyra."
"Good. I will go tell the l crew to set a course for my home."
With that he stands takes the trays and leaves the room, the door locking as it shuts. I turn to Caylee as she yawns. We both hopped back into the bunk and promptly fell asleep.
