Chereads / New World: The rise of Meruem / Chapter 16 - Paving the path

Chapter 16 - Paving the path

As Viticus left the room I stood for some time in a confused daze, then picked up a board of wood and walked over to the wood working machines. The first order of business was simply raising my woodworking skill level. Seeing as I need to appear as though I can do everything effortlessly, ill need to work quickly.

...

After some time of just crafting common (according to system), bows and arrows, making about 20 in total. Before I decided to move on to something more challenging, crafting a desk of some kind was something that intrigued me, a part of me wanted to get a little of my old life back. Remembering the days I spent as the CEO of my company, always behind a desk….

This desk will serve as my base, a place to greet new commers to my "family" and a place to think and make decisions from. I wanted something intimidating something that made me appear larger than life. With that said maybe not just a desk but instead I should change the very look of whatever room I find myself in.

I first started by cutting up and shaping the wood into a makeshift "u" shape, adding a shelf on the left side of it. The whole process took 6-8 hours, when the work was completed, I stood behind what could only be described as a masterpiece.

[system function] appraisals level [5] A system given skill that allows host to appraisal objects and gain knowledge of them base on host level.

uncommon wood crafting [11] Grants host information on creating common and uncommon wooden objects, knowledge included includes crafting bows, crossbow, clubs, spoons, wooden swords, boxes, beds, tables, etc. though because of the skill only being simple grade all crafts will require more host effort, though leveling up the skill can negate this. Due to level increase simple wood crafting has become "uncommon wood crafting"

Amateur armor crafting [0] Grants host information on crafting armor, though this skill goes best with. Leather crafting, and blacksmithing but since host has neither the skill will not operate as effective. This skill grants host information on armor for chest, arms, neck, feet, legs, back, hands and head. Though as stated this is amateur armor crating and as such cannot be used to craft any complex armors.

Hand mastery [4] This skill allows host to gain more exp, and an increase in learning ability of anything related to the use of host hands.

It seems my skill common wood crafting has become uncommon wood crafting, though it seems I haven't been given the ability to craft more things, but instead the "grade" of the things I craft has been improved.

Though this was very interesting, I knew I had to get back to the matter at hand. In two weeks time I will have nearly one hundred, straved and impatient intecqu waiting for me to set them down a worthy path.

I doubt they would settle for, another one of my heart filled speeches, no this is the time in every leaders life where there actions must now meet their bold words. And well ive placed myself in a tough position, I need to first provide a training regiment for a large portion of my followers, but also, I need to keep the scientist busy with things as well.

After racking my brain for some time, I decided that tiering myself out by contemplating on such a matter would accomplish nothing. I first needed to create enough weapons for everyone. Then id deal with the issue of the scientist and what how'd wed train with these weapons.

…..

Its been a few days, maybe two or three and I've managed to complete 50 uncommon, bows, spears, swords, axes, shields. I've managed to level up to level 28 and I'm now at unique wood crafting.

The idea behind this is simple, I'm going to create a military faction, with different divisions, first the "Guardian's" this division will be responsible for protecting/defending my interest in the tower, and my faction from all threats. Because of the main defensive responsibly of this division they will not partake in any hunting exercises and will rarely leave the tower.

The next division will be the "Titans" the division responsible for all hunting outside of the tower, their primary focus will be the acquisition of food. This division main weapon will be whatever is deemed appropriate to killing the monsters outside of the tower.

The "Kousan" will be the division responsible for any if ever needed assignations. Seeing as Viticus told me I'm not liked by many in the tower, ill need a quick and efficient mean of getting rid of those who I disagree with.

As for the scientist ill simply have them all work together for now and split them up if necessary, later. With that said, I should spend the rest of the time I have until they return doing some training of my own.

Grabbing one of the spears on the floor, I began practicing my spear techniques. Gaining some levels in the process, attempting to jog my mind of any powerful spear techniques I could think of.

As I was about to move on to swordsmanship, I noticed the footsteps of someone. Just a singular person who I could guess was Viticus, bringing me information.

"Meruem I bring information you asked for."

He said this as I calmly walked behind my desk, siting in my chair that looked as though it were meant for a king of some kind. As I made myself comfortable, I opened the door and let in Viticus, the moment the door opened he shot through it. Stopping for maybe as second to gawk at the weponds i created.

He held in his hand some kind of electrical device, if I had to guess id say it was a iPod of some kind.

But as he handed it to me, the fleshy feel of the would be screen quickly informed me otherwise. As I looked at the screen all I could see was a number, two hundred thousand, eighty-five. If I were to guess this would be the amount of money he managed to raise for me.

In a matter of days he raised two hundred thousand, it was an impressive number but If I were to be completely honest I knew nothing about what I could spend it on. But I did make sure to give him a slight smile, showing some kind of happiness at what he presented.

"Meruem if you would turn the page you'll see, the names of those who've decided to leave mostly due to peer pressure from other Intecqu and those who've chosen to join. After hearing about your ideals and plan."

I spent more time trying not to make myself look like a fool rather than listen to him fully. I was about to attempt to turn the page as he suggested, but with my hands, but I then realized that doing that would mostly not work, so instead I decide to use my thoughts like with the door. And would you look at that it worked.

"Only fifteen have left."

I said not even looking up at Viticus, but as I said that it was clear that his face quickly turned sour.

"Meruem 15 in only a few days is nothing to scoff at. With the rate were going we may lose many before you even have the chance to attempt the hunt. And I wont lie to you, though the initial idea of you intrigued many of those higher up. They now just seem to view you with indifference. Just getting a measly two hundred thousand was not an easy talk."

"Viticus we have a total of 145 active Intecqu ready to fight and die for me. Fifteen of the would-be followers were weak willed and allowed themselves to be swayed by nonbelievers. This is not to be viewed as a loss but instead as a blessing."

"I hope you're right Meruem. Now then the matter concerning the monsters, from all the information we've managed to gather over the years. These 6 are the most prevalent and dangerous, they pose an immediate threat to your expansion. The first of which Is the "demon snakes." As we call them, seeing as they blend in with the forest area to the north of us. They're nearly impossible to spot with the naked eye, as they not only take on the appearance of the trees, they attached to but also the texture of their skin changes. They lie completely dormant until they sense any living creatures then, with their arrow shaped head's with their powdery teeth, cloaked in thick saliva they ram into any unexpecting prey, either killing them or knocking them unconcession. Then coiling around them then suffocating them. Swallowing them whole, only to slowly digest them over the span of years."
