Chereads / New World: The rise of Meruem / Chapter 17 - One must walk, Before they run

Chapter 17 - One must walk, Before they run

After hearing about the demon snakes, I let out a slight chuckle. Not because it really amused me, but just to present to Viticus an outward appearance of someone unbothered by anything. I wanted to create a wall of sorts between us. Mean it is concerning when your right-hand man may just, in fact, be more loyal to someone else. With every passing day, he learns more and more about me… but I can't be distracted the matter at hand comes first.

"What is the average size of these Demon snakes"

I asked not even sparing him a look. While he looked through his notes for information pertaining to the size of these creatures, I sat quietly pondering how I would destroy these supposed demon snakes, that can blend into the environment.

The first idea that came to mind was to employ the use of thermal sensors, depending on how large these creatures are, even with how inactive they are described they must give off heat. With thermal sensors we can find them no matter how evasive they are, and if we couple that with some color dye. We would completely strip them of their advantages leaving them practically defenseless. Allowing us to finish them off with any manner of long-ranged weaponry.

"To answer your question Meruem, the Demon snakes average around 56 meters in length and 20 meters in width. But I must add we have not killed much seeing as they're very allusive creatures. Nearly impossible to notice. Take what I say with some speculation."

Given their size, the amount of heat released should be enormous but that is beside the point, with this, I now have something to feed to the scientist.

"Go on tell me about the remaining dangers."

He went on to tell me about the "clicker packs" from the way their behavior is described they seem to be this world wolfs. Being described as having large pitch-black heart-shaped heads with sharp razor teeth that roll out of their mouths when they hunt. They always hunt in large groups of up to 20-45 lead by the eldest clicker. They're called clickers because of the sound they make whenever they're hunting prey, the sounds of their teeth slamming together producing a deafening click that alarms their prey of its impending demise. Just about 2 meters in height with a small skinny nimble body, with dark red fur. Layered around its nimble neck, its skin, twist, and turns in a strange cloud pattern. With eyes of a blended reddish black color.

I was taken back for a few seconds, they appeared fierce an opponent I wouldn't want to meet alone. But from the way their described long-ranged attacks will be our best bet with, some form of, large ditches and barricades to slow their speeds. While long-ranged attacks do large amounts of damage to their nimble bodies.

The next wasn't a monster in particular, but a type of plant that like the demon snake and the clicker packs lives in the north. The tree is described as having extremely thin blade-like leaves, around 20 40 meters in length, that sway madly in the wind, slashing apart anything that comes near.

Other than its large golden-colored tree trunk that seemingly shines in the night. The leaves themselves are hardly ever visible to the naked eye, growing bigger and faster with every drop of blood is consumed.

He then added with a look of dread on his face, that the Intecqu had to learn about that fact the hard way.

I had no ideas about this one, other than just staying away from it seeing as they're extremely dangerous and posed no immediate threat to my expansion. But later, I will either find a use for them as either traps or a natural barrier or have them remove them.

It seems these trees had some effect on him. A negative memory of some kind I supposed. After giving him time to collect himself, he proceeded to inform me of the many diseases that plague the lands, the most dangerous being the "sound of death" the cause of this is unknown but a strange sound could be heard before an extremely violent death, which saw the bodies of thousands of Intecqu literally become liquid, with extremely hot steam pouring from their bodies. The putrid smell, plagued the noses of all those around, making it nearly impossible to help the infected.

But strangely before this, they spoke of hearing a beautiful melody that drove them insane, forcing them to do anything to kill themselves before their inevitable liquid death came, many deem this melody an early warning of some kind.

The next intrigued me even more, they are what he calls the Tenka people, or the desert walkers. An intelligent species that lives in the desert, though the Intecqu and the Tenka rarely interacted there was bad blood between the two. Let us just say the queen spared none from here "kill everything order".

The last of the dangerous things was again not a monster but instead a location, the weeping desert to the south of us. Filled with dragon-like serpents that live deep within the earth, and the home of the Tenka.

...

I spent some time going over everything he said in my head, attempting to form a countermeasure against immediate threats to my expansion. The first thing I wanted to do was attack the demon snakes seeing as from what Viticus told me they're edible and to our people's liking.

Not that I cared much but having a steady supply of food would aid in our recruitment of more Intecqu.

But the most important reason to get rid of all the monsters in our immediate vicinity was the acquisition of resources.

If we as a species are to rise will need to create powerful weapons and have some kind of social order. First things first though, like every politician before I can enact anything of substance I first need to be elected.

I stood slowly, placing the iPod like device down and walking over to the weaponry I created. Picking up the crossbow, when compared to the size of the bows on earth this bow could only be considered something made for a giant.

As I picked it up and urged Viticus over. I saw the look of interest on his face. Paying no attention to the weapon I spoke softly for the first time, seemingly lost in thought.

...….

"Viticus do you see the way we cower at the world around us? I have a dream for our people, this dream this vision looms over me…. A destiny that I… no we must carry out. I know you understand, but will the others?... but none the less. I want to create a warrior division. A division of brave and powerful warriors that will be known by a mighty name, they will be the force that carries out my destiny to send fear and terror into the hearts of those who hear the name… "Meruem".

"You're will be done Meruem. Your vision shall become the vision of all Intecqu, we shall die willing and happily for the dream that you have envisioned…... Meruem may I ask what this division will primarily be deployed for? What about the cost? we do only currently have two hundred thousand, it may be too little to fund an entire division"

"Worry not about that Viticus, these "Titians" will not be simple warriors. They shall be the most violent, capable, knowledgeable killers the Intecqu have ever spawned. For they shall be my children, Mine! Do you hear me Viticus they shall rip apart the stars on my command, as they follow my dream of a "Perfect World". They will consist of a small group of 10-15 for now and will be trained to perfection. With the primary goal of killing every kind of monster on this planet."

The look upon his face was twisted oh how he resisted. I knew in his mind he wanted nothing more than to not feel the way he felt but it was all too late. Viticus I will cast a spell upon you, diming your reason and filling you with... the most potent drug of all "Faith" in a something greater than yourself.

.....

After telling him about the Titians. I went on to explain about the other divisions that will be created in pursuit of my dream of a "Perfect World". As I was about to return to my seat, I noticed the look of concern on his face.

"Worry not Viticus I have not forgotten the scientist. I have something crucial for them to feast upon. For now, bring me something to write my thoughts down upon."

Giving me a slight smile, he without saying a word reached into a bag, one I had never seen him, Carrie, with him before. Inside the bag was a flesh like crystal, "this again" I thought to know that this flesh-like substance would deal mostly with the mind.

When I took it in my hand, I could feel it connecting with my mind, without a second thought, I poured all my thoughts into this crystal-like device. A bright light attempted to fight its way out of the crystal, shining in my hand.

Seemingly showing all the brilliance of my thoughts. The whole thing was partially amusing, but I had no time to be immersed in this thought for long, seeing as I heard another's footsteps coming towards my room. Quickly giving Viticus his orders.

"Have some workers come and take the weapons to a reasonable location, that bears the requirements of a proper training grounds. Also deliver this crystal to the science division, tell them it's a test work that must be completed soon. They are to create, thermal sensors and large mounted harpoons based on the design inside the crystal, I will tolerate no form of mistake."

"Meruem forgive my boundless arrogance but these "crystals" as you call them are referred to as

"Mecu" Memory capturing utilities, a variant of "ECU" which refers to thought processed devices. Again, forgive my rudeness Meruem."

…..

"Viticus thank you I shall remember what you have shared."

I said as Viticus walked out, with quickened steps. Though what he said was somewhat discontented, I don't mind learning new things, but yet again I hate not knowing things. Now then

"it's time to let in my guest." i thought standing up and walking over to the door.

"Come in my greatest warrior Za,coken"
