Chapter 46 - Distorted Confrontations

"Tēvi uṉṉuṭaṉ iruppatai nāṉ kāṇkiṟēṉ, kāṭṭēri (I see the Goddess is with you, Vampire.)" The silver haired elf greeted from the doorway. His ice cold white eyes boring into Axel's curious silver ones. The vampires mind was still pacing from such news: Myriah brought Atoli back from the dead...

"Ēṟṟattāḻvu avaḷatu āṉmāvaik kaṟaippaṭuttuvataṉ mūlam ataṉ vilaiyai eṭuttuḷḷatu

(The imbalance has taken its price by tainting her soul)." The elf sighed, while Axel looked at the sleeping girl in his arms.

Her soul was tainted? With Darkness?.

The Darkness would surely kill her, so how-

"Ippōtu avaḷ cuvācippataip pārkka, tāṉē āccariyamāka irukkiṟatu (To see her breathing now, is astonishing on its own)." The white haired male praised, "Tēvi pōṉṟa uyiriṉaṅkaḷ potuvāka iṟantatai uyirppitta piṟaku iṟakkiṉṟaṉa. Pāvam avarkaḷiṉ āṉmāviṟku mikavum periyatu. Ūḻal avarkaḷai erittu kollum (Creatures like the Goddess typically die after reviving that which has since passed. The sin is too great for their soul. The corruption would burn and kill them.)" So it was darkness. Axel focused on Myriah. Celestial beings were beings of pure white magic. They were so pure that any caress of darkness could kill them instantly if not painfully. And that darkness could be an imbalance to nature herself.

Axel looked at Myriah's sleeping face then at the Elf who continued to speak. "Inta nērattil avaḷ irukkum nilaiyiṉ aṭippaṭaiyil, avaḷ itayattil iruḷ cūḻntu, metuvāka avaḷaik kaṟaipaṭuttum.(Based on the state she is in at the moment, the darkness will harbor in her heart, and slowly taint at her)." Axel listened with a newly racing heart, "Iṟutiyil, avaḷ atai viṭṭuviṭavillai eṉṟāl, avaḷ iṟantuviṭuvāḷ (Eventually, if she doesn't relinquish it, she will die)." The words sounded so final to him, they weighed heavily on his heart. Die?

Myriah could die from her selfless act of reviving her friend? She was so young? Newly born. She should have years, centuries before her....

More importantly, relinquish the darkness? There was a way to cure her? It was pride that kept Axel from asking such a question. It was the girl in his arms that allowed him to think about what the elf was saying.

'It is I who bears your mother's pain.' The words, from so long ago gave a Axel new hope. What if what the elf said was true. Relinquish the darkness... 'this life of blood is taxing to your mothers gentle soul...'

Axel felt Myriah's nails dig into his chest as she held onto him, sensing his growing anxiety. He gently patted her head as he let himself drift with his thoughts once more.

Was she hoping to be saved?

Did she want to die?

Was darkness painful for her?

Did she know the gravity of what she had done? Surely she had to as she was begging for forgiveness. Could he save her?

The questions piled in his head as he sat back onto his haunches and cradled Myriah in his arms. He buried his nose into her hair as she was laid across his lap, gripping his shirt.

'Only a life partner can bear his mates pain....'

"Iraviṉ oru uyiriṉattiṟku, nīṅkaḷ tēvikku uṇavaḷikkiṟīrkaḷ (For a creature of the night, you cater to the Goddess)." The elf observed, "Avaḷuṭaiya tūya itayam uṅkaḷ iṟantavarukku uyir koṭukkumā? Iruḷ avaḷai aḻittavuṭaṉ avaḷai viḻuṅka muṟpaṭukiṟīrkaḷā? (Does her pure heart give life to your dead one? Do you seek to devour her once the darkness destroys her)."

'Devour?' Axel narrowed his eyes, 'I'm a vampire not a demon.' Why on earth would he devour a girl? Was this creature perverted? Was he taught such grotesque things growing up? Or was he exposed? Did a vampire haunt his childhood?

However maybe the was on to something.

Axel glared at the elf, "Nāṉ oru narampait toṭṭēṉā, vāmpayar? Avaḷ itayattil iruḷ cūḻntiruppatai nīṅkaḷ uṇarkiṟīrkaḷā? (Did I touch a nerve, Vampire? Do you feel the darkness in her heart beckoning you)" Axel's glare deepened toward the sneering elf whose own white eyes widened the slightest fraction in his shock at the Vampire's reaction.

Why look so offended?

So... disappointed?

"..." Axel ran tender fingers along Myriahs spine. Darkness calling to him? Was that why he was so drawn to her? Was he really a monster who sought the burning purity of the girl in his arms? Would he truly be so cruel as to lure her to her death so that he could devour her when the time comes? Why would the elf say such things? Darkness beckoning? Could he save her?

Her quiet whimpers tugged at his heart. The hidden tears that slipped from beneath her lashes made his heart twist in such a manner that to breathe was to ache...

Where he such a monster who was drawn to the darkness, he should be reveling in her impending death... Axel looked at her tear stained face... flushed cheeks from crying... pale skin from lack of nourishment... the thought of her dying made his world grey. It made him sag with the many years that he had been alive. Why did her impending death weigh so heavily on him?

His hand travelled up her back to wrap around her shoulders as he got lost in the Beauty of the girl in his arms. When did she come to infect him so?

A world without Myriah... made all of the years he had been alive worthless.

This elf was surely off his mark and the disrespect would not go unpunished.

"Caraṇālayam kēṭṭa oruvaṉukku, nīṅkaḷ eṉ makkaḷukku etirāka mikavum pārapaṭcam kāṭṭukiṟīrkaḷ (For one who asked for sanctuary, you are quite prejudiced against my people)." His silver eyes tainted at the sight of her shiver. "Don't..." She whispered as her arms snaked around his waist and held fast. Determined to stay in his arms.

'Just tell me, little one...and I will never let you go.'

Axel's expression softened as he moved her hair from her face. "Nīṅkaḷ uṅkaḷ aṉumāṉaṅkaḷil tairiyamāka irukkiṟīrkaḷ (You are bold in your assumptions)."

Axel whispered as he allowed his fingertips to graze Myraih's flushed cheek. She always seamed to be blushing around him...be it from crying or from his helpless affections... His silver eyes snapped to the elf white ones in assertive steel, "However you will do well to remember this, Elf: What draws me to this girl is not your concern."

Axel held the elf's gaze for a moment before he dismissed him in favor of Myriah.

He wanted to be the one she came to when she was hurting... when she needed to be saved...

like this moment... Myriah needed to be saved and this foolish elf guided him to the solution... a solution he has accidentally stumbled on when he and his team first rescued her.

Axel's silver eyes tainted to a possessive onyx as his eyes snapped to the elf and narrowed in cold dominance. Outwardly, the elf remained unfazed. His mind, however, was racing.

The vampires of old hunted Pure Ones to gain their humanity from madness associated with blood lust... The vampires could only feast on human blood as it was a human that was sacrificed to bring the Vampire to life, and thus it would be the blood of the human that would sustain the Vampire's life... As second generation vampires sought out and found mortal life mates, they tried to curb the craving for human blood with the blood of wildlife... Animal blood was not the same as human blood and could not sustain the Vampire. They slowly starved themselves into madness that could not be cured lest by the blood of a Celestial being...the magic used to give them life.

The mystical blood of the Celestial beings was similar to the tear of a Phoenix... it could heal any ailment... no matter how severe... but neither cure could heal the Vampire's magically gifted craving for human blood... or his natural allure to the darkness that came from the night.
