"There has to be something I could be doing instead of this," sighed a shabbily dressed youth as he stared at the ceiling fan.
Getting up from his bed, he looked around at his messy room wondering what has happened with his life.
He once thought that he had his whole life in order, he had gotten a job at one of the top Advertising firms after graduating from college.
Everything started to spiral after the recession with the company he worked for going bankrupt.
After that it was just one job after the other and him never landing himself in something permanent enough to get himself out of the slump he was in.
BZZT BZZT
He turned around to see a familiar name on the the screen of his phone.
"Ehh, why would Boft give me a call?"
"EDWARD! There's a party tonight down by the old warehouse, you have to be there!"
Rolling his eyes," Alright Boft, I'll be there but you know I hate those things, they always play music I don't know and it's always full of dicks."
"You are not going to regret it, I swear! Plus if you don't come my mom's not going to let me come out!"
"Ok, what time do I meet you?"
"See you at 9, we can grab pizza nearby!"
BEEP BEEP
With that the call was over. Boft had always been jumpy and excited when it came to discovering new music.
It was one of the traits that Edward liked which was why they were friends after so long.
Looking at his watch, Edward sighed. He only had another hour to get ready and leave.
--
"Slow down! You're going to choke if you eat that fast."
Edward said as he watch Boft swallow her half of the cheese pizza they ordered.
Licking her fingers, this little brown girl stared intently at him.
"You don't get it. I want to get there as early as possible, there's going to be a long queue if we don't get there early enough."
He shook his head while reaching out for the last slice of pizza.
Nothing had been going right for a long time, it had been weeks since his last job and he had started using his savings. He wasn't sure how long he had left before he had to head back to his parents.
It wasn't what he wanted, he had worked so hard to be self sufficient after college but life hadn't played out the way it was supposed to.
"Well at least for tonight I can forget about it and try to enjoy the party," he thought to himself as he munched on the last bit of the pizza.
--
True enough the queue was long as they waited to get into the party. It had been held at one of the small shophouses that was located at the old industrial area.
What used to be booming with trade and economy was now a desolate place with only a few logistic companies still around. Most of the trade operations in town had closed after the recession hit. Only a few of them still lasted, it was mainly the mega corporations that held sway on everyone's life.
Finally making their way to the door, Boft turned around and excitedly shook him. "I can't wait! Ohhhh I'm so nervous, I've been hearing about him so much from the web, I can't believe that we're finally going to see him"
Looking down at the short little excitable girl, Edward asked "See who? You haven't told me who he was yet and I haven't seen any posters yet."
"Don't worry, you'll find out in a bit"
Turning back to the door, it was finally their turn to step into the party. After the usual ID and bag check they walked in from the cool summer night into a dark room filled with smoke.
Lasers shooting through the air with geometric designs could be seen forming as if they were holograms, LED walls with psychedelic shapes on loop lined the surroundings as you could hear the deep pulsing bass drum play at a steady 128 beats per minute (bpm).
And suddenly amongst the kaleidescope of sound and lasers a single voice is heard.
"Party people, your dreams have now been fulfilled, get off your seats and let's get I'll.."
