Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Rank Up!

*Ding* A subordinate has slain Derek Morgan Lvl. 50 Affliction apprentice *Ding*

*Ding* A Zombie is ready for promotion. *Ding*

Marvin opened his eyes and laid in terror as the zombies chewed on Derek's remaining pieces.

There was something off, as one zombie in the middle looked like it was shining?

"Um, mommy, they won't hurt me, will they?"

"Baby, they protected you from that evil man, they are your protectors."

"Is that why they hurt him after he tried to hurt me?"

"I believe so sweetie."

"Mommy, why do the men want to protect me, I had a thing popup and it told me that I gained a title when they sat around me, is it related to that?"

"Sweetie, do you have words floating in the air when you think about it?"

"YES, how did you know mommy?"

"I have something similar. Try to think about what it gave you."

"Okay, mommy."

*Ding* True King of the Undead (Title)- Whoever shall hold this title is recognized by the world to be the True King of the Undead. The holder shall have natural affinity with undead creatures and may control undead. The holder of this title shall be able to grant experience to the members of the Undead Legion by sacrificing their own. Undead controlled by the holder of this title are able to use the system in place for sentient races and are no longer considered unholy (weakness to light is null). With this title being claimed for the first time ever, the world may never be the same. Long live the King. +100% Affinity with undead, Experience Shared with Undead servants, Classes, Ranks, and Sentience is available for the Undead. *Ding*

As Marvin repeated what the title said, one of the zombies in from of him was becoming even brighter. The eyes of the zombie began to change slightly.

The zombie began to feel uncomfortable, which was new for him, as he is undead and unfeeling. Mr. Zombie began to feel..again..and he wanted one thing very much. To serve his King with honor and pride.

Marvin sat up and began thinking about what his mother was talking about. She tried to explain that this world has a system with numbers that can represent reality. When suddenly the middle zombie strode forward quickly and kneeled with its head lowered.

"Mom, what is he doing, why did he do that and why is he glowing????"

"Baby, try to touch his head."

*Ding* Zombie ready for promotion *Ding*

Chose the path of promotion: Rank 1

Melee path: Zombie Swordsman, Zombie Shieldman, and Zombie Spearman.

Ranged path: Zombie Archer, Zombie Caster, and Zombie Thrower.

Special path: Zombie is eligible for Zombie Scout, due to experience during previous life.

"Mommy, it says I can pick what the zombie will become."

Marvin proceeded to list off the options that are currently available for Rank 1.

"Baby, what do you think the man should become? I think we should ask the man."

"OH, that's a good idea mommy. Mister Zombie, what do you want me to pick for you."

"My Liege, I would accept any role you assign me, but I do enjoy being a scout."

"Well, that settles it, Zombie Scout it is."

The Zombie in front of Marvin began pulsating with light and slowly changed. The typical rotten flesh of the zombies was replaced with a natural scent as scouts are trained that a lack of scent is as bad as rotting flesh. Enemy scouts are able to locate you pretty easily if you smell terrible or like nothing. The Zombie also began to form what looked like basic equipment. A light leather cap, with open holes on the sides for ears. The slim fitting tunic designed mostly as clothing and a uniform rather than actual armor, with a blend of natural colors stained onto the padding worn under the leather. Tight, sleek, comfortable, and flexible leather shoes. This Zombie Scout even had 2 small daggers on his sides.

"Um, mister, you can [stand] up now…"

"Yes, my Liege."

As the zombie man, stood, Marvin noticed that he gave off a feeling of thought. It looked like the zombie man was thinking about where they were and how to proceed. Small flicks of his eyes revealed that curiosity that thought brings.

"Mister, what is your name?"

"My Liege, this one has no name. In my previous life, I was known as Rufus, but I am not that person any longer as I serve my Liege."

"Mister, then we need to get you a name. How about Ricky or Robert. Mommy, what do you think?"

"Baby, those are good names, but how about Roger. Remember those yellow droids that you loved?"

"ROGER ROGER, I like it mommy, how about you Roger?"

"If my Liege finds it acceptable, then I would be honored."

"Welp, then from today onwards, you shall be known as Roger."

There was a flash of white light which blinded Marvin. Followed by a loud boom, with both sight and hearing cut from him, Marvin began to run forward. The zombies that were standing at attention grabbed Marvin and moved him into their ranks. Roger stood and drew his weapons, preparing for combat.

"WHO, GOES THERE!!!"

"…"

"SPEAK, OR DIE IN SILENCE!!!"

"DIE YOU EVIL BEINGS!!!"

Samantha the Light Mage was sent out here to destroy an Affliction Apprentice, but she found something much more powerful. It was at least a Rank 2 Necromancer based off of how many zombies were present. Necromancers are never good news; they always ruin peoples' day. They smell, use corpses of fallen soldiers to fight, and honestly, it's a mess cleaning up after them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Well, it is a good thing I was the one to discover the Necromancer, if it had been Darrien then he might have fallen. Its just the light's blessing I suppose. Well, one more solar burst ought to clear these poor spirits out. *

As Samantha began casting her Solar Burst spell, Marvin regained his senses and began to yell at the mean lady to stop trying to hurt his friends.

"…Wait, is that….the…Necromancer…a little kid????????"

*What the heck is going on here?*

"Hey, boy, why are you in the middle of those zombies?"

"Well, they are my friends and they are protecting me, MEANIE!!!"

"...…"

*How, on terra, did this little boy, become a Necromancer? *

"KID, TELL HIM TO STOP!!!"

As the Light Mage was in deep thought, Roger grabbed her from behind and pressed his dagger to her throat, waiting on orders from his Liege.

"Roger, don't hurt her, she isn't trying to hurt me anymore."

"As you command…" Roger releases the woman and she drops to the ground in a cold sweat. Her life was at the whim of a small boy?

Samantha's mind raced trying to figure out why her spell did not take effect on the man named "Roger". She come to think that maybe he was not undead as he attacked independent of the other zombies. They were not ordered to attack, and she used the standard opener for Necromancer duels. The Flash spell isn't considered an attack directly by the system for some reason, so, it is what is taught to use in situations like these. How, odd....

For whatever reason, there is a small boy next to the cabin of a Rank 0- Max level Affliction Apprentice. He has 36 Zombies and a retainer named Roger that is deadly.

What a strange day…
