Arianna sat on the wooden bench as she stared at the river. This area will be their next project. She actually wasn't needed here but she insisted on coming along when she heard that the project director will be inspecting this particular river side in the suburban area for renovation. She used to come here with Yago a few years ago, as the place reminded them of their home, before they came to this country in search for Carl Reid.
"How nostalgic." she whispered.
Arianna closed her eyes and imagined the old days... when Yago and her used to play by the river. Their old house, an ancestral mansion was situated near a river just like this. Every summer, Yago would go fishing there and she would accompany him. He was such a busy guy back then. But during summer vacation, he would dedicate all his time to play with her.
"How nostalgic huh?"
Arianna instantly opened her eyes when she heard a man's voice behind her. As she turn around, she saw a man dressed in a striped blue suit standing there while looking at the river. His hands were inside his pockets.
"Mr. dela Vega, what are you doing here?" she asked, more displeased than startled.
"Inspecting? I want to see the place personally. I represent Y.E." he explained.
Arianna looked away. She always feel unhappy to see Vier. Why do they need to meet so often like this! Now he's saying he is from Y.E. investments? Their partner for this project? How unfortunate.
"You have so many people under you. Why do you have to come yourself!" Will it always be like this? Will they have to meet often in the future? Should she just give up on managing the companies herself?
"That goes for you too. But you're still here." The man said with a chuckle. Arianna didn't have anything to say about that. It's her fault too that she met him here. She was the one who insisted on coming. When she noticed the man walking closer, she stood up, picking up her bag intending to leave. Always, when she sees this man, fleeing was the first thing that comes to her mind.
"I noticed that you dislike me. Can you tell me why?" he quickly asked when she saw her trying to escape.
Arianna stopped and hesitated whether to answer him or not. She was silent for a while before she turned to him to reply.
"Because you're the source of Yago's misfortune. Because of you, he was abandoned. Why did you get to live but Yago have to die?" there was grief in Arianna's eyes when she said those words.. as if holding her tears back.
Yago was deeply troubled when he saw the sadness in those orbs but he couldn't do anything. He wanted to hold her like before but he was not in any position to. He wasn't his brother anymore who has the right to comfort her anytime. But isn't this what he wanted before? For Arianna to treat him differently?
"What happened before wasn't my fault. And Yago didn't regret anything either. He sees the past as a predestined arrangement. If he wasn't banished, he wouldn't have met you. You're the best thing that ever happened to him."
When Arianna heard those words, she was suddenly stunned. Was it true? Did Yago really thought of it like that? Isn't Vier just lying to her? While she was asking questions in her mind, she didn't realize that Yago was coming closer and closer. The next thing she knew, he was already standing in front of her.
"For Yago's sake, can you just let go of the past? Maybe you can start all over again." he said softly.
Forget about the past? It was like telling her to forget Yago. And what right does he have to say this?
Arianna looked up and stared at his eyes with deep resentment. She lifted her hand and point a finger in his left chest.
"Yago's heart is beating inside this chest, right? Tell me the truth." she asked.
Yago furrowed his brows, confused.
"What about it?"
" You took Yago's heart. You killed him. I'll never forgive you from taking Yago away from me."
It was Yago's turn to be stunned this time. She didn't think that Arianna would think that far. By the time he realized it, Arianna had already left.
Yago stared at Arianna's back from a distance. Today, he finally realized how his disappearance had broken her heart. The deep resentment and loneliness in her eyes was something he had never seen in her before. So... Arianna thought he gave his heart to Vier? That's why she hated him so much? He really wished he could tell her the truth... but...
"Vier... after his engagement, he would have to leave with her fiancee to stay somewhere hidden... And you Yago... should take his place." he still remember those words that his father has told him when they were at the ancestral house. "I know that I already lost all my right as your father when I sent you away, but I'm begging you now... please do this for the people you love."
"And who are these people?" Yago asked with furrowed brows.
"By pretending to be Vier, you'll be protecting your brother. By pretending to be dead, Yago's family will be safe." he answered in riddles. "Your identity is not simple, my son. From the moment you were conceived, you're life had always been in danger. If those people finds out that you are still alive, the Evans family that you have protected, Rojo will use them to lure you out."
Yago sighed. He really wish he had a choice. But there wasn't right now. The most he could do was to protect Arianna from the dark, and search for that Rojo his father was talking about so that he could finally finish him off. Whoever he or they are, they have done too much damage to his life. There's no time to waste. He must mobilize all his connections to seize that demon. Maybe he should announce to the whole world about his whereabouts? With Vier in hiding, he's the only target there is now. It will only be a matter of time before they make a move at last...
"Wait for me Rian... I'll come back to you once all of these are settled." Yago whispered to himself.
