Nikki's eyes suddenly flew open as she quickly turned on the light.
The room was very quiet apart from the whistling of the wind from the opened window.
Nikki looked towards the window and slightly squinted her eyes.
She was sure she closed the window before she went to bed. She stood up gently and walked towards the window, looking down it was as peaceful as it could be.
She sighed as she thought about her nightmare. She raised her hand to lightly touch her belly.
If she had not lost that baby that year, the child would probably have grown to be a beautiful child, waddling around in diapers.
The day she lost her child, it was also raining. The current rain must have triggered her memories and turned it into her nightmare.
As Nikki was deep in her thought, she heard a knock on the door. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she looked at her bedside clock. It was 1:26 in the morning.
She opened the door and met James standing there in his pajamas.
"What do you want?" Her voice was slightly hoarse so she quickly cleared her throat.
"I thought you might need company" James directly walked into the room and laid on the bed "So I came to accompany my wife"
Nikki just stared at him as her hands moved to close the door. She walked to the side of the bed and squinted at him.
"What game are you playing?" Nikki's hand moved to softly caress his face as she squatted beside him.
"What do you mean?" Both Nikki and James eyes met as they gazed deeply into each other's eyes.
"You have changed" Nikki's hand moved from slowly caressing his cheeks to tracing his eyebrows. "Why are you pretending to be what you are not? Why are you faking being a good father and loving husband? You don't have to do this"
"I'm not pretending" James suddenly grabbed her hand that was tracing his face. "I really regret everything I did, I'm sorry for everything, I want to make up for hurting you, I want to be a good husband and a loving father, please give me a chance to show you that I have changed, I'm a changed person now, I have realised my mistakes"
"Would you still say this things if I told you that Victoria wants to meet with you?" Nikki said as her lips curled up. She knew what was coming, he'll definitely choose Victoria over her after all Victoria was his first love and most likely his only love. She just wanted to see him eat his words and embarrass himself. Although, deep down in her heart, she held a tiny hope that he would pick her this time.
For a moment, there was silence. As expected he'll still choose Victoria over her, she couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed but she decided to ignore the unwanted unexpected feeling.
"Victoria doesn't mean a thing to me anymore" James stared into her eyes seriously as he held her hand tight. "You are all that matters now.. You and Jimmy"
Nikki was not expecting him to say this. They continued staring at each other before he started slowly moving in to her.
She watched his face grow closer to hers and instinctively closed her eyes with a small smile on her face. His words slowly sinked into her head. She was all that matters to him now, she and her baby.
His left hand moved to hold the back of her head as his lips landed on her forehead. He felt her freeze and he smiled on her head. She was probably expecting him to kiss her on the lips. Thinking of it made him smile.
He separated from her and looked at her beet red face. She was glaring at him.
"Don't be a child" He grinned happily and pulled on her cheeks.
Nikki smiled and she laid beside him, putting off the light beside them. She had no idea what she was feeling right now.
She hated this man for so long for being irresponsible, forgetting he has a wife and son and whenever he remembers he hits them both.
She stared at the outline of his face in the dark. Should she give up her hatred now that he decided to be responsible? Should she still take her revenge?
She decided to go with the flow of things, for now she'll just enjoy this moment.

In a dark room, somewhere, a dark tall figure was kneeling with his head bowed in front of another figure sitted on a chair. There was a desk separating the two, on the desk was an open laptop playing a scene. The moonlight from outside shone on the man sitted on a chair. He had a neat aristocratic look and he twirled a cigarette in his hands.
"I'm sorry I failed, please punish me" The man kneeling opened his mouth as he said. If one looked closely, they'll discover that the shadow was the same shadow that was in Nikki's room.
"Which hand were you supposed to use to injure her?" The aristocratic man grabbed a lighter and set it at the edge of his cigarette.
"Right hand sir" The kneeling man said as his head went lower.
"Go cut it off" The aristocratic man lit the cigarette but didn't smoke it. "You did well, the aim was to injure her and not get caught, not getting caught is good enough for now"
"Yes boss" The kneeling man stood up, bowed and left.
The aristocratic man smiled, his smile was very beautiful. He looked at the screen of the laptop and his smile grew wider.
Playing on the laptop was the scene of Nikki and James late night discussion.
'That's right, love her more and more, it's gonna hurt when I'm done with you.'
