Chapter 96 - Bewildering events

WHOOSH!!!

Strong gusts of wind went past Rastel's face as old Ferud went up the sky above Eadon.

With the blood moon shining its bright light down, Eadon looked extremely beautiful from above. Rastel couldn't help but let out a short gasp as he narrowed his windswept eyes and looked down at the scene.

'My luck is actually not all shitty. Seeing such a sight, my fantasy meter is pretty much filled up for the next few days.' He hummed happily to himself with a wide smile on his face.

The bustling of the town's residents made the scene look much more amazing, looking at the ant-like figures moving up and down its wide walls.

The entire of Eadon was shaped like a pentagon with the town lord's castle taking up one side and the Vulcan smithery taking up another. The other three sides were taken up by a barrack, a commercial district, and a residential area respectively with the center being a large circle which was the town's square.

Not just him, even Vars was looking down at the town with a bit of awe, though it was a bit hard to tell from his ever scowling face. Only Sacha was indifferent, focusing his gaze outside the walls as if he could see something the two of them couldn't.

They didn't get to enjoy the scene for long though as old Ferud flapped his enormous wings and they quickly left Eadon behind.

'Wait, are we not supposed to defend the town?' Rastel was startled when he saw they were leaving.

Old Ferud went across the skies as they traced the trail of destruction left by the two berserk beasts.

Looking at the destruction from above, Rastel was able to fully appreciate their strength. It looked like a tornado had torn through the forest.

Even as they reached the plains, there was the occasional deep gorge torn in the ground that laid testament to the ferocity of the fight. Other than that, there was blood.

Lots of it.

ROAR!!!!

They hadn't gone far when they heard the ferocious roars of beasts echoing from a distance. Looking towards the direction, the three of them laid eyes on what would be, at least in Rastel's eyes, the largest amount of beasts he had ever laid his eyes on.

There were beasts literally everywhere!

ROAAAARRRR!!!

KUEEEEGHHH!!!!

BUUUOOOR!!!!

Countless beasts were gathering together towards the blood trail like sharks in a frenzy. Different packs, herds, groups, flocks, and even solitary beasts were coming from all directions.

Some were already engaged in fights among each other leaving an even bloodier trail for others to follow while some were following the trail single-mindedly, wanting to reach the end of the rainbow for their pot of gold.

With so much blood, the beast's instincts told them that one thing was certain. At the end of this trail would be what could be considered a high-grade meal for them.

The scene was truly appalling and Rastel had no idea there were that many beasts in the wild. Considering how peaceful his previous travels were, he couldn't help but have an almost surreal feeling that he was never safe!

"Holy shit, this is serious!" he cursed out loud.

"Indeed." Sacha replied with a serious look.

"Krieek! Just small worms! Should I take care of some right now?" old Ferud screeched in disdain.

Vars was staring at the beast horde quietly, his thoughts unknown.

The four of them stared quietly at the ever-increasing horde of beasts, various thoughts flashing through their minds. Although the walls of Eadon looked big, there was still a trace of uneasiness.

"The good thing is Kurn should have noticed the commotion." Sacha suddenly spoke up and they all looked towards the light-filled skies of Kurn.

"Something this big and so close to home cannot be ignored. At least not by that fellow." Sacha rubbed his mustache thoughtfully.

Just at that point, a loud bellow echoed out from the depths of the Epilus canyons.

BAAAOOOORRRR!!!!

This growl was so loud and terrifying that Rastel felt his scalp tingling and goosebumps forming straight down his spine.

All the beasts froze in their actions with some running away decisively and others cowering down below. This bawling was from a beast that was much higher than them in the hierarchy!

The entire group turned at the same time to see a large beast floating into the sky from the canyon depths in the distance.

Even though the canyon was still far off, this beast was so large that they could make out its details from their position.

A large bald head that resembled a turtle with bleak black eyes. The snout was sharp and curved and there were trails of a weed-like substance growing around it like a beard.

The large body was covered in large hard scales that reminded Rastel of a pangolin and its four limbs were curled into its body, looking a bit withered.

Below its body, three long tails with spiked bulks at the end waved menacingly. They resembled maces for giants and looked like they could easily smash a house to dust with a single swing.

The entire beast looked more bizarre than threatening, its entire body was a bright shade of orange that reminded Rastel of raw flesh.

The beast had no wings to speak of so the first thought that appeared in Rastel's head was.

'How in the hell is it floating!?'

BAAAAOOOORRRR!!!!

The beast had its eyes locked in their direction and it seemed it had definitely been enticed over. A large frown appeared on Sacha's face as he saw that but he didn't make a move.

Just as the beast let out its second bawl, the walls of Eadon suddenly glowed with a bright light that gathered above the walled city.

A huge white palm that seemed to be formed with energy reached out from the middle of the city and grabbed at the turtle like beast decisively!

BAAOOR!

The beast growled in irritation and sent one of its tails smashing into the palm.

BANG!

The sound was loud enough to be heard clearly even from where they were as they watched the palm get knocked away.

But although the beast repelled the palm away and even dispersed some of its energy, it wasn't much of a deterrent as another palm formed to join it.

Acting in concert this time, one palm attacked first and which made the beast more furious as it sent two tails this time.

BANG! BANG!!

The two bulks of spikes smashed head-on into the palm and knocked it back. But as that palm was knocked back, the other one lunged for the kill and grabbed the beast's small neck!

BOOOOAAAAARRRR!!!!

The beast was thoroughly enraged!

Rastel watched in amazement as the neck of the beast extended out like a snake as the snout leaned over to clamp onto the palm that held it.

PAKTT!!!

With a snap of its snout, the palm dispersed into a flurry of energy. The beast then turned its gaze towards Kurn, fury evident in its black beady eyes.

But the previously dispersed palm had reformed with another two joining it making four. They lunged for the beast once more before it could make an attack.

The beast sent its three tails towards them with a low roar but this time, the space around them seemed to be twisting somewhat making them look terrifying!

PAKT! PAKT!! PAKT!!! PAKT!!!!

All four hands burst into pieces like fireworks lighting up the sky, easily destroyed. But the three tails were still flying towards Kurn!

BANG! BANG!! BANG!!!

Just before they could smash into Kurn, a loud sound was heard as they smashed into an invisible wall. An invisible film of energy protected Kurn. As a walled city and one that was stationed at the edge of the Epilus canyons, its defense was almost impenetrable!

More hands appeared but this time, there were eight of them! They rushed the beast with three going head-on and the remaining five going around to flank it.

BOOAAARRR!!!!!

The beast roared furiously as a burst of energy suddenly emerged from its body, smashing into everything around it!

DUDUDUDUM!!!

A large piece of the canyon's edge crumbled into the depths and the shield around Kurn rippled terribly and various cracking sounds echoed out.

PAAKKTT!!!

All eight hands exploded into fireworks at the same time, showering the sky.

That attack seemed to have shaken the world and the aftereffects reached all the way in their direction causing old Ferud to flap his wings desperately to maintain flight.

Some of the beasts down below scattered into the wind with many running away from fright.

The shield of energy protecting Kurn was barely visible as it rapidly healed itself and immediately after, more palms appeared above Kurn.

But this time, there was sixteen!

BOOOAAARRR!!!

Seeing more palms appear in the sky, the beast couldn't feel more irritated at this point and attacked ferociously. This time, the palms got to land a few blows on its head before they got destroyed which seemed to piss the beast off.

The next time they reappeared, there were thirty-two of them.

The beast was still unreconciled and fought some more, destroying the palms after a while but ended up receiving more blows to the head.

But the next set of palms appeared again and there were sixty-four of them, the beast paused and didn't attack this time.

The palms also waited quietly above Kurn without moving, silent sentries guarding the city.

Staring intently at Kurn, a flash went through the beast's eyes before it slowly retreated. Floating slowly back into the depths.

The fight was over before it escalated.

The four spectators were still staring silently as the numerous palms retreated into the walls of Kurn and peace was restored.

"Hoolyyy--------!!!" Rastel couldn't complete his words as he stared in shock.

What kind of battle was that?

"That fellow is truly one of a kind. Irritating the enemy to death, he never changes." Sacha let out a low chuckle.

"Krieek! Humph! I could have taken that thing down within the same time!" old Ferud snorted.

"Be a bit humbler old friend." Sacha said lightly.

"What does that mean!!!" old Ferud screeched loudly.

They noticed a commotion over at Kurn and saw as its large gates were thrown open, numerous armored soldiers mounted on large light blue horses with dark blue manes tore out the gate and rushed towards the direction of the almost dispersed beast horde.

Elite soldiers from Kurn's army.

Although numerous beasts had previously escaped out of fear, a significant amount was remaining numbering in the thousands with some of those that ran away earlier now returning as the source of their fear was no longer present.

Seeing the soldiers quickly crossing the plains, Sacha called out.

"We have seen enough, let us go back to Kurn and prepare. Although the situation ended up working in our favor, the threat still isn't over."

Old Ferud didn't hesitate and slowly flew back towards Eadon. The beast horde had been stalled and the intervention from Kurn's army would lessen the threat.

Rastel's head was swarmed with much curiosity after witnessing the previous battle and he couldn't help but want to question Sacha.

"Archmage sir? Can I ask something?" he said cautiously.

"Of course you can. Curiosity is not a crime, right?" Sacha chuckled gently causing Rastel to feel a bit awkward.

But he still asked anyway.

"What kind of beast was that exactly?"

Sacha turned to look at him with amusement in his eyes.

"What? Do you feel your fighting spirit been aroused?" he laughed heartily.

Rastel put on a weird smile as he was honestly just curious.

'Do you think I am an idiot? Who would want to fight that thing?' his mouth twitched slightly.

"You should better shelve any thoughts you have. You have probably never seen that beast before but it is something of a legend in the Epilus canyons. Even Kurn's city lord can only fend off its attacks as you have seen." Sacha habitually smoothened his mustache.

"That thing is a true to the flesh primordial beast!"
