Chapter 49 - Revenge!

Thunder rumbled as the sound of raindrops could be heard hitting against the building. The rain was sudden and heavy and it made the atmosphere in the room turn more solemn.

"The mission failed and you people thought you could eliminate me as a loose end? You must be joking." the assassin's silky voice sounded from beneath her hood.

"Killing the man you sent after me was child's play. And today, I will cut YOU people off as 'loose ends'!" she suddenly leapt forward in a direct attack!

A short sword appeared in her right hand as she lunged forward with a quick backward slash, but the warrior was ready for her. He swung his sword in a vertical strike as their blades met with a sharp ring.

CLANG!

With quick nimble movements, the assassin used the clash as a pivot and swung her body up in the air to reach behind the warrior. A short dagger appeared in her left hand as she swung down at the quickly retreating figure of the old man that was standing behind.

KLING!

The warrior had spun round on his heels to intercept the attack and push back the assassin. She flew in a graceful arc and landed on the table while focusing her eyes on the warrior but she was not deterred.

Her body seemed to phase in and out of existence as she suddenly faded into the darkness. The warrior now alarmed pushed the old man to the wall and stood in front of him with his sword raised on guard.

He made a few slashes around him that whistled with great strength and seemed to project some type of sword energy but he hit nothing, the assassin was patient.

But they didn't wait long, the assassin emerged from the darkness and launched a quick attack with her short sword at the warrior's side. He deftly lowered his sword and blocked it with while simultaneously activating a skill that turned his sword into a blur of forward stabs, he missed all the attacks!

CLANG!

KLING!

DANG!

The assassin kept popping in and out of the darkness and launching sneak attacks but the warrior kept skillfully blocking them all. This continued for a few seconds before the warrior suddenly started feeling a bit drowsy and weak, he had been poisoned!

"You should have started feeling the effects by now. Do you think if I had made the first attack with the intention of killing that old fool you would have easily blocked me? No, my main target was you all along" the assassin's seductive voiced echoed out from the darkness as she laughed.

The warrior felt his knees buckling as he struggled to stand straight. It was then he noticed the needle that was stuck deeply into exposed side of his neck, even now he still couldn't feel it, it was like he was never stabbed by a needle at all!

The assassin eerily appeared before him. "You die first!"

Her blade flew in a short arc as it sunk into the neck of the warrior cutting through the tough leather armor and into a vital vein, quickly ending his life.

She then turned slowly to the old man who was now collapsed near the wall petrified with fear. She smiled at him as she slowly pulled out her sword dripping in blood. "Your turn, goodbye old man"

She had barely raised her sword when she heard the sound of the door opening up behind her. 'I thought there was no one left around?' she wondered.

She had half turned when she saw a red blur move quickly towards her and smash into her body with crushing strength!

"KUH….!!!" Her breath was caught in her chest as she was rammed harshly towards one of the long glass windows, smashing through it and tumbling out into the garden under the heavy downpour.

"COUGH!....COUGH!!" She rolled around with her elbows on the ground as she coughed and wheeze with drops of blood pouring out of her mouth.

She could feel her organs groaning in pain from the impact and the sharp pain of two or three broken ribs stabbing her insides.

Raising her head up to see her assailant, her eyes met the figure of a huge bronze skinned figure with long red hair and a long whipping tail swishing behind. The figure was standing in front of the broken window and was staring at her with glazed eyes.

'A devil!?' her mind was in disarray as she saw the unmistakable qualities of the devil race but, 'There should be no devils on this continent!'

"Oh dear, your lordship! Seems like you are in quite the predicament! Your poor son had asked for my help but it seems like it was too late. Perhaps I should pack my things and leave?" a shrill voice echoed out from inside the room.

"No! Wait! Stay and help me kill that demoness, whatever my son offered to pay you I will double it!" the panicked voice of the old man cried out.

"Ho Ho! So it shall be then! She will be no match for my best specimen here" the figure of an overweight wood elf outlined itself behind the devil. He had a devious grin on his face as he stared down at her crouching figure.

"It is the now the end for you, come now and don't make this too hard. I must be on my way before dusk tomorrow" he smiled as the devil moved into the rain with alarming speed towards her.

'The necromancer? He was already here?' the assassin was alarmed as she felt the pain coursing through her body. Without wasting any time, she gritted her teeth before vanishing under the rain like smoke.

The devil stopped abruptly as the necromancer's eyes widened in surprise. "Hoh?"

His eyes slowly moved towards the pool of blood coughed out by the assassin that hadn't been washed out by the rain yet, his cheek fat quivered as he shook in joy.

The woman stumbled on the door of her house before opening it with much struggle. She saw her daughter laying asleep on near the wall with her small basket in front of her and pieces of herbs laying about.

"Little flower! Come on, pack your things, let's go" she managed to spit out the words with great pain.

The girl stood up rubbing her eyes as she looked up at her mother. "But mama? It's raining"

"Don't worry about that now, quickly pack your things." The woman moved towards the box and opened it up. It was filled with all her equipment for her work.

She took a particular bottle and swallowed all its contents in one go before grabbing a few more weapons to arm herself and then shutting the box. She didn't bother locking it, she was leaving in a hurry and it was too heavy, whoever had the luck to find it may the gods curse his soul.

She turned to her daughter who was holding her small herb basket and smiled at her. "Come on little flower, let's be on our way."

A few minutes later, they had passed through a secret exit out of the city she had prepared and was on a carriage heading south.

She drove the two horses into the rain as quickly as they could go. She had to escape the city area before people would be sent after her. As long as she could escape this part of the kingdom then it didn't matter.

"Mama are we going to the place with lots of beautiful flowers just like me?" the little girl's voice echoed from within the carriage.

"Yes dear, lots of beautiful flowers. Now stay quiet while mama drives the carriage okay." She turned to reply her before turning back to concentrate in the carriage.

At that moment, lightning flashed and illuminated the surrounding forest and in that split second, she caught sight of numerous glaring red eyes staring at their carriage from within the forest.

'I have been caught already?' her heart clenched in her chest as she suddenly heard loud footsteps thundering in the rain.

BOOM! CRASH!!

The carriage tumbled over as the horses neighed in terror before snapping out of their restraints and escaping into the wild.

The woman found herself sprawled on the forest floor and her injuries which were previously pacified by the potion she took now aggravated further and immense pain was now coursing through her body.

"You left your blood behind when you are been chased by a necromancer? Isn't that stupid of you?" the unmistakable voice of the necromancer resounded in her ears.

Soon, she saw the huge shadow of the devil and the obese necromancer towering above her.

"Such a shame it is, you were just unlucky that you were this stupid. If you had met anyone else you would have probably escaped!"

"Ma….ma!? Mama! Help me!" the little girl's voice echoed out from within the crushed carriage.

The necromancer turned his attention there." Oh, a child? Who would believe a terrifying assassin would be going around with a child?" he chuckled to himself.

With a command from him, the lifeless body of the devil moved towards the wreck and dug out the little girl. She was crying and wailing and there seemed to be blood streaming down her body.

"Mama! Help! It hurts!" the woman's eyes were immediately blinded by tears as she struggled to move her broken body.

"Don't you dare touch her! Drop her down immediately you bastard!" she yelled madly as she struggled to stand up only aggravating her injuries the more.

The necromancer ignored her as he looked at the girl with glowing eyes. "Hmm…. Blonde hair, don't have a lot of those. Exquisite skin and these bones, a little broken but they will be perfect when I fix them up a bit.

He then bent down to the raving assassin as he brought out a fancy looking small dagger from his robes and pointing it at her. "You on the other hand is of no use to me. Your body is far too broken, won't be a good specimen."

With an angry burst of strength, the woman grabbed at the elf's hand and bit savagely into it biting off a chunk of flesh!

"Eeeiiiiy!" he squealed like a pig as he jumped back while letting go of the dagger. The undead devil standing nearby instantly raised its foot and slammed it into her chest which made her cough up in pain.

"You bitch! You dare to attack me!? It seems you don't know your situation yet but I will show you!" with another order from him, the undead devil raised its leg in the air and smashed into her body over and over again!

Her muffled screams mixed with the cries of her daughter shouting for her mother blended into the downpour to form a despairing symphony until she slowly lost her strength to scream and eventually, her consciousness.

The next time the assassin opened her eyes, it was a blaring mid-day. She didn't know for how long she had been unconscious but her entire body was wracked with unbearable pain!

As an assassin, she had a skill that could help her recover from near death situations and it had barely saved her life but it wasn't enough. Her body was a broken mess and the necromancer was nowhere to be found and so was her daughter.

She fought the tears that was threatening to fall from her eyes as she suddenly remembered the pill her daughter gave her. Slowly feeling in her chest, she found the broken pieces of the bottle the pill was placed in and the broken pieces of the pill.

Unable to fight back the tears, she cried like a baby as she pushed the pieces of the pill into her mouth. She slowly dragged her body to find shelter after a few hours of resting and had found a small cave not far from where she was.

It was occupied by a large snake which she killed with a blade that was hidden in her boots and served as her meal for a long time.

After a few days, she recovered well enough to walk around and went back to the site of the carriage wreck, this time her face was stone cold and her aura, frosty. She searched the wreckage and came out with a small woven basket that had been damaged from the crash.

Looking at the damaged basket, tears flowed from her eyes as she muttered in a hoarse voice. "My little flower…."

She sat down at the wreckage and fixed the little basket with tears constantly flowing down her cheeks and her hoarse voice echoing out for her daughter.

When she was done, she picked up the basket on her hand and wiped her tears. She took a step forward before feeling something buried in the sand. Digging it up, she discovered the exquisite small blade that belonged to the necromancer which he had used to threaten her.

Her blood lust practically gushed out in torrents as rage welled up inside her. Using the knife as the core, she activated a tracking skill.

Feeling the direction her skill was pulling her, she walked into the forest with a stone cold face with only one goal in sight, REVENGE!
