Chapter 7 - 7. Flight

"Well now he's done it!" Grumbled Falon.

As predicted it took approximately 10 seconds after Therin jumped into the arena for the crowd to realize that the 3 guys were associated with him. Mercifully Therin hadn't made it obvious that he practiced the dark magic yet but knowing him there's no way he doesn't use it.

Ralco sighs.

"As much as I want to watch this we better be heading out."

Already he could see some official-looking guys heading their way. 'Dark magic revealed or not, this isn't something I want to deal with.'

"Let's head out."

Falon and Ness nod their agreement and follow Ralco's movement towards the exit. From behind them Ralco can hear the guards shouting orders that echo through the chamber.

"Hey! Stop them!"

Shit.

"We gotta book it, let's go!" Ralco states.

The other two nod their assent as they all take off into a sprint. Surely being caught at this point would mean certain death.

'The pathway to the exit should be easy enough to reach'

'After all it's just a straight shot there from where we were spectating.'

By-passing animal cages and concession stands Ralco and the rest kept sprinting towards one of the three entry gates to the coliseum.

Then tragedy struck.

"Attention all patrons!" A voice rang through the halls.

"Until further notice the whole coliseum shall be under quarantine. We apologize for any inconvenience."

The massive portcullis above the gate came crashing down and slammed shut right in front of them. And they all screech to a halt.

"DAMN IT ALL!" Shouted Ralco,

"I gave those dogs of the goddess too little credit. Of course they can use their Gift to mass-carry their voice."

"Well what are we gonna do now 'smart guy'?" panted Falon sarcastically.

"Well, it seems we only have one option left" stated Ralon somberly, but smiling like a maniac.

He turned around and raised his fists.

"We go down fighting like men."

'I've always hoped this would come to pass, I've been patiently sitting on my hands practically, DYING for action.'

Ralon licks his lips at the joy and adrenaline to come.

"OR..." stated Ness, scaring the crap out of everyone else who had up until this point forgotten he had an opinion.

He grabbed Ralon by the hem of his shirt.

"We aren't a bunch of dumbasses and head to the roof, the surrounding buildings are tall enough for us to jump to, we can make it!"

Ness starts to drag Ralco until he begrudgingly comes to his senses.

"Oh fiiiiiine, let's go!"

Footsteps are rapidly approaching from behind so they tear away at a sprint for a stair to the upper levels. In total the arena is about 15 meters tall, so Ness does have a point. By dictat of the axiarch of Astoria, buildings must be at least 5 meters away from the coliseum, also there was a street that encircled it removing any temptations to break that law. While this would be impossible for most humans to jump, the dark Gift makes this task trivial.

Finally they reach the top and Ralco busts through the door to the well. This brings him directly face-to-face with a passerby in shiny show-armor that must be to root for some family friend in the trials. "What in the-" he manages to get out before Ralco drives a fist directly into his diaphragm. Ralco smiles with glee, the man's armor crunches under the blunt force from Ralco's partially Gift-infused punch, also sinking into the man's actual torso.

The man doubles over and Ness swoops in with some knives he had hidden in his boots and stabs through the back of his head, right below the skull.

Blood fountains from the decisive stabs and fuels Ralco's passion even more.

Having done this before, Ralon uses Ness's back as a spring and leaps over to meet any potential foes behind the initial assailant. There apparently were 2 other guards in this room and one other, small man who has already started hiding in the corner. Both guards were armed with glaives, which they promptly rose against their assailants. With a fearsome cry Ralco charged his guard on the left, drawing even more shadows into his palms. The guard's eyes widened in panic as he swung his weapon at Ralco.

'Clearly inexperienced, that's hilarious' thought Ralco with a blood-lust glee.

He caught the swing directly in one hand, using the shadows to nullify the force of the blow. The metal bending around his shadows. He then brought his other hand up and grabbed the guards face with his right hand. Amplifying his applied force, he slammed the guard's head into the wall with enough force to stop an charging boar. This shatters the guard's skull in a messy, crimson explosion and weakens the structural integrity of the concrete wall, sending cracks all around the impact site. Delighted with his work Ralco laughs maniacally with glee.

"Hey Ness!" Falon shouted,

"On it!" Ness shouted back, as he wound up as much shadows as he could muster.

Ness unleashed a forceful yell as he focused as much Gift as he could into the wall, blasting their escape path wide open.
