Leana got into position took a fighting stance. Cleo also got into position but stood there more casually. Leana was the first one to attack. She closed the gap between her and Cleo and tried to kick Cleo. Cleo dodge the kick and swept Leana's other leg in one fluid motion. Leana fell down but rolled over and stood up again.
"Don't try too hard Leana, you are leaving openings for me to counter attack"
"Yeah…"
Leana tried to kick again but this time more cautiously. Cleo dodge again but this time she couldn't counter attack as Leana kept her distance.
"That's better." praised Cleo.
"Thanks. Ok here I come"
Leana and Cleo sparred for almost 20 minutes. I was starting to get worried since we had to try and cover as much distance as possible today. If these two are too tired, we won't be able to make it very far!
Finally just when I was about to bring up my concerns, Leana and Cleo stopped the spar. While Leana was quite strong and fast, she was not as strong or skilled as Cleo. I wondered about who Cleo learned martial arts from. She is surprising strong when it comes to fighting. Regardless, both of them were overwhelmingly stronger than me. I wouldn't last more than second a against either of them. I started to think about the leveling system. Maybe I should put most of the points into strength when leveling up?
Turek was worried and asked "Do you think we will make it to Tiaanway by tomorrow?"
Leana thought for a bit and replied "I don't think it's likely. Even if we increase our speed a bit, we will probably still reach there by noon of the third day. We could reach there in 2 days but…."
Then she added mischievously, "But only Cleo and me would be able to sustain that speed and we will have to leave you two behind!"
Turek was embarrassed and said angrily "Wait until I learn magic, then I will use a spell to increase my strength and speed and beat you two!"
I got curious and asked "Is that possible using magic?"
Turek had actually been boasting. "Uh.. I don't know. I have never seen magic being used. It's pretty rare…"
"Yeah, I haven't seen it either" added Cleo.
"I have seen it before," said Leana. "When the Viscount visited the wall with the Earl Shwartz the Earl brought his magician with him. I think the Earl was trying to show off his power. The Magician just had a light globe floating near him but didn't really do any other magic. I think the impact of just that light globe on us was quite big. None of us had ever seen anything like that. Most magicians that train in imperial academy don't come to remote places like border cities. I suppose adventurers are the exceptions. I heard there are some in Lorel city guild."
"I have a magician friend actually. She was the one that told me all about the adventuring and leveling. Her friend registered me as adventurer after we met" I told Leana about Janet.
"They seem like good people to help out a stranger," said Leana.
"Yeah, they are really good. They are D rank adventurers. I don't know much about them since they left for the capital the very next after I met them. They said they will return after 6 months. We could ask Janet to teach Turek magic but he will have to wait for quite some time. Plus, we don't know when we are going to return to Lorel anyway"
Turek looked dejected.
Cleo tried to cheer him up. "Don't worry Turek, I am sure we will find something in Tiaanway to help you learn magic"
Turek nodded but did not say anything else.
Now that the spar was finished, it was time to get going.
