I went home to my shack and tried to get as much sleep as possible. My bed was just a dirty blanket on the floor and not really comfortable. It had just been used to sleeping on it and didn't really feel like I was missing anything. After all, I had never really been in a better place in my life.
I woke up with the sun hitting me through the holes in my wall. I closed my eyes for a second and then finally got up after a few seconds. I didn't really have another set of clothes except of course the clothes that the church had given me. Those clothes were not really something I could wear on a quest, so I just wore what I wore yesterday.
I got to the guild just after 8 o'clock bells finished ringing. I entered through the door and started looking through the crowd for Turek. We had not decided on a place to meet in the guild, which seemed to have been a mistake. Now we have to waste time looking for each other. I sighed again thinking how inexperienced I really am at this.
I looked all over but there was no sign of Turek. Did he get cold feet and back out? Well if worst comes to worst I could just go off on my own again. I could also try finding an unranked adventurer here. I started looking around for unranked adventurers but couldn't find any. The only people around me were E and F ranked adventurers. I was confused since I thought I should be able to meet unranked adventurers in the morning. Well if there aren't any, there wasn't anything I could do about it. So I decided to try my luck with F ranked adventurers instead. I went to the nearest guy to talk with him. He was looking at the quest board with another F ranked adventurer and discussing the quests.
"Hey, are you planning on doing a quest?"
The guy turned around to look down at me. As usual, he was taller than me. It really was hard to find anyone of my height in the guild.
He looked me up and down and said, "Get lost little boy… we are busy"
The guy with him gave and laugh and then both of them went back to looking at the board.
I felt embarrassed and angry but I swallowed my anger. Nothing will come out of fighting these two and it's not like I could really fight with them even if I wanted to.
I moved on to find more F ranked adventurers but I got more responses like "Go away kid", "I don't have time for you", "I am busy" etc. It's only then I realized, it was the way I looked that resulted in this situation where no one was taking me seriously. Like Val had said, I was tiny. I had been actually quite lucky that I had met Turek, at least he hadn't been so dismissive of me. Then again, he might have found someone else to party and left with them before I got here.
