Like its namesake, the spell drains all type of mana from its intended target and grants the mana to its caster, and at Tier 4, the spell can target multiple people simultaneously amongst other improvements and enhancements.
This is the beauty of Tier Magic, as its strength lies in scalability. The higher the tier is, the greater and more powerful the spell being casted becomes. Therefore, for a highly ineffective spell such as Mana Drain, it can become very effective through the use of Tier Magic, especially against species of magical in nature.
Since Mana Drain does not differentiate between different type of Mana within its intended target, it might allow me to expand my Mana Sea at the cost of others. The others being the intruders, as I will use them to test my theory.
And the moment that the Magic Array is activated, the intruders scream out in pain, as their mana are ripped right out of their Mana Sea in the form of black and grey mist.
The excruciating pain they are feeling can be considered as an unintended side effect, for mana is the lifeblood of all Minasian – of all species that are born into Magic, actually. As such, to have their mana forcefully ripped out of them, it is incredibly painful.
As their screams fill the room, black and grey mists surge forwards and absorb into my being, allowing me to refill my Mana Sea. More than that, it also allows me to expand my Mana Sea.
While it is not as much as I have liked, it still confirms my theory, and that opens plenty of possibilities, one of which allows me to grow stronger as a Sorcerer very quickly.
Of course, I need to refine the Innate Mana that I have just absorbed. It is incredibly impure, and that is because of who the mana belongs to. As such, I am certain I will obtain Innate Mana of higher purity from actual Sorcerers.
Much more of it as well.
Once the spell runs its course, almost all the intruders are dead. Only a couple standing, and they are not in any shape to challenge me. In fact, they are dying due to their shattered Mana Sea.
"What… kind of spell… is that…?" one of them utters before collapsing onto the floor unmoving. He is barely holding on, and without help, he will join the rest.
I pay him no mind, as I eye the only true survivor. He has managed to resist a Tier 4 spell, and while it unable to drain his mana, it has drained him mentally. He is slipping in and out of consciousness from his expression.
"I am impressed that you manage to resist that," I tell him and point my finger at him. "But I do wonder how long you can resist?"
A Magic Array forms at my fingertip. It is the same spell – Mana Drain. The only difference now is that I am not using Tier Magic to cast it, and as such, it is not as powerful as before. Even so, it can be quite effective against severely weakened Mages.
Or in this case, Sorcerer. Not an Apprentice, but an actual Sorcerer.
"Stop," he calls out and raises his hand with all of his strength. Within his palm is an emblem, and that terrifies the guards far more than what I have done. "I am Ingrain Hallow."
