Chapter 159 - The Greatest Actor

It has only been a few days since I had left the underground Subway Station, but honestly, it does feel a lot longer than that. Probably because I have been so busy lately.

I also haven't had a good sleep for a while, but sleep is for the weak.

"Zan! Fuck. Where have you been!?" Alex calls out and breaks away from Thomas and Jessica, as they have been trying to get some straight answer out of Alex. "You okay, man? I. No. Everyone was worried about you."

He casts a glance at Alice, who is at my unconscious mother's side. I suppose she is trying to be a good daughter-in-law, and I do not mind, as she never had the chance to meet my mother in another life. I was certain that my mother would have approved of her.

"I'm…? Mum!?" I utter and push my way towards my mother. "Mum! Mum! What'd happen? What –

"Calm the fuck down, man! Your mum is fine. I thought he… our boss has told you about it?" Alex tries to calm me down. Alice and Thomas and Jessica also do so, as they seem to understand the situation.

"Your mum is just sleeping, Zander," Alice informs me with a smile. "I think she has gone through quite a bit. I don't know the whole story, but you can ask Alex. He was the one who has brought her here."

Alice eyes the other unconscious women in the room. They are being cared for by Debra, Teressa and Cindy. Debra seems to be quite shaken, and I believe she must have known one of the women. There is a resemblance after all. Not her mother, as the woman is not old enough. More like her older sister.

That means her mother is… oh woops. Not my problem. Not my problem.

"Boss…? What do you…? I don't know what you are talking about," I play my part, and I think I sound convincing enough.

"Oh. He doesn't tell you. Well, that is obvious," Alex responses. "Same reason to why I cannot tell you, Thomas, no matter how much times you asked. The fucking guy can teleport people around. Just think about that for a second. I don't want to be teleport into fucking space!"

"But if he can teleport people, he can teleport us out of here!" Thomas calls out. "It doesn't hurt you to ask him!"

"Are you fucking kidding me!? What did I just say?" Alex retorts, seemingly angry. He does learn from the best – his parents.

I allow Alex and Thomas to argue back and forth for a while, as I check up on my mother, cradling her in my arms. I had already done so when I first freed her from the Hive Mind, but another one doesn't really hurt.

Alice tries to support me, but she is also worried about her mother and father. They are likely dead or worse, and I feel a bit guilty about it. I cannot save everyone, and if I try, I will just repeat the mistake of the past.

"You two. Please shut the fuck up!" I call out as my aura explodes, washing over everyone within the room, silencing everything. "Alex cannot tell you who he is and the organization that just enlisted him or he will be killed. And everyone in here as well. You have no idea how powerful they are."

Everyone just stares at me while I look down at my mother, who is waking up. "Mum."
