Chapter 122 - Dealing with Monsters

The survivors appear to be puzzled. "A Merchant…?"

"Yes, a Merchant," I response and turn my attention towards the rest of the Lizardmen. "You know, a person who sells anything to anyone for a profit, be it products or services or something more sinister, so if there is anything that you desire, as long as the price you offer is right, you can have it."

I raise my weapon at the Lizardmen. "And I think you desire to be alive and unmolested at the moment, or am I wrong and should take my business elsewhere?"

"No. You are not wrong, and your help is greatly appreciated," one of the survivors answers me before firing his machine gun at the Lizardmen, causing the monsters to roar violently.

But instead of charging headfirst towards their death against me, the Lizardmen make a hasty retreat, and that alone surprises the survivors, for they have never seen such an intelligent response from any of the monsters before.

Of course not, as the difference in power between them and Lizardmen is not great enough, and those Lizardmen are smart enough to know when a prey is too costly to hunt, especially when the said prey has been claimed by another predator – me.

And once the Lizardmen have run off, I turn my attention towards the survivors.

"Here," I produce some Calling Cards and hand each of the survivors one. One is enough for now. "You can contact me through this. The instructions are at the back. Now, excuse me, as I have somewhere else that I needed to be."

The survivors are too busy looking at the cards to stop me from leaving, and I make haste towards the retreating Lizardmen.

While they are quite fast runner, I can easily overtake them with my incredible speed, and the moment that I overtake them, they immediately halt their retreat and come face to face with me.

A standoff happens, and despite the Lizardmen greatly outnumber me, none of them dares to make a move as they know for a fact that I can wipe them al out with little to no effort. It does not help when my weapon is alight with black flames.

One of the larger Lizardmen finally approaches me. "Merchant…" it growls, and from all the markings and scars over its face and chest, I suppose it is the leader off this hunting pack. Quite a large pack, to be honest.

"We do not… wish to fight…"

"Neither do I despite what had just happened," I response in their language, surprising them all. With a smirk, I put away Amaterasu, demonstrating that I mean what I had said. Actions mean more than words with monsters. "There is no need for you to use the tongue of the humans, as I can speak many languages, including yours. As for how, I have clients and customers from all walks of life."

That surprises the Lizardmen, as they have assumed that I am an enemy because I am human. I'm not, for I am not blinded to the fact that Lizardmen and every other race are also victims of the Rulers.

Furthermore, I am a Merchant first and human second. As such, anyone and anything that can pay me for my products and services are considered as a potential customer. Lizardmen, just like every other species, have things they want, and I am more than happy to provide. For a price, of course.
