Since I am not a natural Spirit, as I am not actually dead, I cannot wander about with my Spiritual Body for very long. Even if I could, it is ill-advised for me to do so. This is because the natural energies of the world are shaving away my spiritual form.
It is similar to a boulder resting in the middle of a flowing stream. Over a period of time, nothing would remain. It is much faster in my case, considering the world energies are like a raging tsunami, and that is when it is the calmest.
To prevent losing my Spiritual Body to the world, I need to find something to house it in. Anything will do, and the best kind of enclosure would be the recently expired living organism. Basically, corpses.
Their body do not need to be functional for me to possess them, but it is better if they do since it will prevent all the soldiers shouting zombies and proceeding to fill me with a lot of bullets. Not that would stop my possession.
Sure, I can possess a living person too, but only if their will is weak. If their will is too strong, I will have a difficult time controlling their body. And most of the soldiers have fairly strong will because of their training in the army.
I say most, as quite a few people are on the verge of breaking.
I suppose it is natural, as their trainings never involves shooting their own friends and comrades. Killing monster is one thing. Killing people who they have shared a meal with for years is another. No matter how tough of a person they are, it still unhinges them.
Since there are flies buzzing around, I decide to just possess them. It is actually not the first time I have done so, and I am sure it will not be the last, as possessing insect is a great way to spy on people.
Once I do, I hitch a ride on the Major. I need to stay still since getting killed as a fly is quite a traumatic experience. Not really killed, as I cannot die physical death as a Spirit. Well, technically I can if someone harm my physical body.
Anyway, I chill until the Major is lead into a tent by her escort. Her escort remains inside the tent with several men, standing around. Some are sitting, and they are the ones in command at the moment.
"Major," most of them greet.
"Captains. Lieutenants," the Major returns the greeting. "I like to know the current situation. Now."
One of the captain nods in agreement. "As soon as we are sure that you are who we assume that you are. Please don't do anything rash. It will just hurt a bit."
He then gestures his hand, and one of the soldiers immediately drawls some blood from the Major via her neck. She almost attacks him as a result, but that is merely her reflex.
The soldier immediately takes her blood to a desk nearby and examine it. I am sure he is looking for a sign of mutation, as an infected person will show such sign. As for what kind of infection, I am not too certain. And I doubt the people in the tent know either even if they know the symptoms.
"The Major is clean," the soldier eventually announces, allowing the men to let out a breath of relief.
One of the captains hands the Major a dossier, allowing her to read through quickly. I also have a look, learning of the symptoms. I frown deeply as it is not an infection like they've believed. It's a Hive Mind.
