The Major does not really take my words for it, as the liquid was extracted from a monster. However, considering the alternative, she really has no choice in the matter. She is feeling herself slipping away with every ragged breath, and the fear of becoming a monster becomes ever stronger.
She eyes me with unsaid threats. Probably something in the line of: "If this thing does me in, my men will make sure you will be the same."
But it will not kill her, as it is a Health Potion concocted to her biology via her blood. Granted, it is very weak in term of healing effects, but it will at least halt the progression of the rabies virus boosted and evolved by Life Essence.
Life Essence by itself does not innately seek to harm any living things, transforming them into another form. A completely unrecognizable form. No. That is the action of the Ruler of Life herself, and in spite of that action, she does not wish to eradicate humanity entirely.
That is not her goal. Nor it is the goals of the Rulers. Like their title, they wish to rule over everything, and those who refuse to submit to them will be destroyed. Of course, I am unsure why they wouldn't just wipe out those who manage to resist their dominance, thus allowing them to rise up and challenge them.
Maybe, they do not think of us much, and our struggles to survive amuses them. My struggle to survive certainly amuses the Ruler of Death until I exceed his expectation and kill him.
In any case, if the Ruler of Life desires to make it impossible for anyone to survive within the Life Zone, she would have imparted her will or spirit onto the Life Crystals themselves, preventing me or anyone with similar knowledge from making use of the Life Essence within.
I merely chuckle at the Major's glare and then watch her consume the glowing red liquids. It is only a few sips at first to make sure it is not really poison, but once she is starting to feel the effect, she drinks the whole thing.
It takes her a few minutes to recover quite a bit of her strengths, and I am somewhat surprised by that since I was fairly sure she would require more time to recover. Maybe it is thanks to the training that her father forces on her since she was a child.
Becoming an Awakened do grant a person with enhanced physical abilities, such as accelerate healing and more. It is all listed in the Status Window. Higher Constitution stat means higher healing factors.
I am sure that the Major has at least 15 or so points in Constitution. Since she has been killing monsters left and right, she should have gained a few levels too. Wait, if that is the case, why haven't I seen any System Window appearing, informing her as well as me that she has level up.
Unless, her level is already too high. I should have noticed. Damn.
"Major. I am curious –
"I am very curious too, Merchant, but this is not the time for that," the Major interrupts while looking at me. She then opens her hand in a demanding manner. "Those vials. Give them to me. Now."
I stare at her before chuckling. "I'm afraid this is not a charity, Major. The only reason that I have saved you is because it is what I have been paid for. Your men, however, are not of my concern. Of course, I will part with the means to save their life for a price. It will not be cheap, obviously."
