Aiden and Miguel were both invited to answer some questions for the police report to be filed against Dr. Coolman
Along the way, the two had a silent agreement that they would just be going to stick on their initial story.
They both knew well enough that it would do them no good if someone learned about the things that transpired in the office that night.
That was why, as much as possible, Aiden and Miguel tried to evade any questions that could possibly give them in.
Whenever they were asked about sensitive questions, they would always give the officer in charge a uniform answer of either, "I can't remember" or "I am not sure, it was all too sudden..."
It was not that they did not wish to cooperate with the police investigation.
But it was just that they simply could not afford to take the risk of leaking any information regarding what truly happened at the office.
No one should learn about what truly happened
Besides, there was no way, the court of law would take their words seriously if ever they would go and told the truth anyway, right?
After all, it would indeed prove to be trouble to explain everything that happened that night inside Dr. Coolman's office.
It was also for this same reason that no matter how hard Officer Sanchez tried to use different approaches in questioning them, he still could not get anything useful from the two young men.
Dr. Coolman also had recovered and regained his consciousness in no time after having some good rest at the infirmary while being in the detention, and yet, even he, himself could not exactly recount what happened to him.
All he could remember was that he was trying to attack someone and then the next thing he knew, he was already carried to police custody to answer for his crime.
Officer Sanchez was hard-pressed with seeking the truth, but with no one to verify the authenticity of the words of the two eyewitnesses, his job was made far more complicated than it already was.
Because no matter how unconvinced he was regarding Aiden and Miguel's sworn statements, he was still left with no choice but to relent.
After all, it was their words against his hunch.
"So do you mean to say that the entire office of Dr. Harvey Coolman has nearly torn apart and was demolished into a pile of rubbles just because that mere small fight that you were referring to?"
Officer Sanchez asked for the umpteenth time, to which Miguel rebutted using the same answer that he had prepared beforehand.
"Officer, how many times do I have to tell you? Everything happened fast and we can no longer remember exactly what happened. As I have told you, as soon as my uncle tried to attack me, I fought him without thinking. I just followed my instinct"
Miguel answered with a tone octave higher than his usual voice.
A clear indication that the hight school guy was already starting to get annoyed by being asked with the same question over and over again.
But on the other hand, they too could not exactly blame Officer Sanchez for being like that.
Because if one was going to analyze the situation, there was indeed a lot of loopholes in their story.
Officer Sanchez was just trying to get to the bottom of the story and was obviously doing his job to the best of his ability.
That was why, Aiden who was also being asked with the same questions for who knows how many times already, tried to remain as calm and collected as he could, despite being pissed off himself.
Nevertheless, there was still no way that neither of them, Aiden nor Miguel, would going to give themselves away.
"He was telling the truth, sir. I can vouch for that. I was there too. I saw them fighting, It was all but self-defense on Miguel's side. He was just clearly protecting himself from his uncle who was trying to harm him"
Aiden seconded Miguel's claim when he saw Officer Sanchez's expression.
His face says it all. He clearly did not believe a word they said.
The other party was obviously not buying their story no matter how hard they stick in it.
But as much as Officer Sanchez wanted to subject the two for further questioning., he knew very well that just his hunch, itself, would not be enough to hold water and detained the two.
So after an hour or so of strict police interrogation, Officer Sanchez was left with no choice but to let go of his gut feeling and allow Aiden and Miguel to finally took their rest and went back to their respective homes.
"Finally!"
Miguel said without even bothering to tone down his voice.
"Thank you for your cooperation, see you next time."
One of the officers who stood just next to the exit said when Aiden and Miguel walked passed them as they go out of the precinct.
"Hope not..."
Aiden muttered under his breath after they passed by.
