When I woke up from the blackout, the True Maker, embodied as my beautiful mother of the 29th century, Keila Eisenstein, was glowing very luminously, in the darkness of the Royal Tomb. She looked peaceful, and she smiled gently at me. "You did it, Sabina. You brought a charged Zeto Crystal to a Portal to Divine Dimension. Now, you can travel to the Divine Dimension and fulfil your destiny; To stop Rangda and save the future for all of us." The True Maker said with a tranquil and a beautifully haunting voice.
I looked at the mirage of my future mother and sobbed, "But… what about my happiness? What about Alex, the love of my life? What about our future happiness together? What about the murderous monster that I have become?"
There was a long pause, and the True Maker changed form to an enchanting aura of pure energy. The True Maker's lingering whisper echoed in the air, "You shall fulfil your purpose, which is the reason for your reincarnation. Alex is now dead, and while I understand your grief, it's insignificant. Your irrational emotions are just a part of your human nature."
"So now, I must go through the portal to the Divine Dimension, leaving this world, and sacrifice my happiness and my life to stop Rangda from destroying the future?" I sobbed.
"You have already made your sacrifice, Sabina. Rangda is kept in a prison cell, it is the best time to end her life. And you'll outlive Rangda, she is still weak and in captivity. You are young and still learning your true potential, you must follow your destiny." the True Maker responded.
"Tell me, are you really omniscient?" I asked with a sad voice.
"As far as I know, I am. But people have the power to make their own decisions. Among each one, there will be a different ending. How could I possibly know for certain; it is your choice." The True Maker responded calmly.
"So then, you already know, that I am not going to sacrifice Alex to fulfil my destiny!" I asked defiantly.
"I am aware of your mindset, but you must reconsider. There isn't enough energy left in the crystal to both resurrect Alex and open the portal. You must choose either one or the other. Sabina, you must follow the path you were born to do..." The True Maker urged me.
"I will find a way to resurrect Alex and keep the galaxy alive," I responded.
After that, I squeezed the Zeto Crystal, and used its energy to resurrect Alex. He woke up with shock and terror on his face, "Zuuhhh... what happened?" Alex exclaimed while rubbing his eyes.
"You died, but I resurrected you with the power of the Zeto Crystal. You'll be fine." I responded with a reassuring voice and smiled to him ever so sweetly.
"Urrm…. I remember I was somewhere… It was so cold and dark, was it the afterlife?" Alex asked in bewilderment, with cold sweat clamming his body.
"You are with me now, that is all that matters," I said and kissed him gently.
I used my empath powers to calm Alex down. He got up on his feet, studied the dead bodyguards, and the pile of ash that remained of Pierre Beaumont. "What happened here, Sabina?" Alex asked.
"There was a secret command that I uttered. It was a verbal encryption code that allowed the Zeto Crystal to incinerate an evil person that touched it. I voiced the command and set Pierre ablaze. I quickly grabbed his pistol and shot his bodyguards. You were killed by a stray bullet during the firefight, but I managed to revive you."
"So, you are a murderer just like them?" Alex said in resignation.
"I did what I had to do to survive, I never wanted anyone to die," I replied defensively.
"I know. And yet I wish there was another way..." Alex said and sighed.
I walked up to him and gave him a hug. "It's okay Alex, everything is going to be fine.", I muttered to him.
"Be careful of hunting monsters, lest you become one yourself. For when you stare into the Abyss, the Abyss also stares back into you." Alex said with an afterthought.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" I replied with a confused voice
"It's a quote by Nietzsche. We have become the very evil that we tried to prevent…", Alex responded with sorrow in his voice.
"No, we haven't. We simply had to realise that we cannot save everyone!" I replied defiantly, while I secretly wondered if Alex was right.
We stood silent for a while. There was a lot of tension and unresolved issues, but this was not the time nor the place to resolve them. "So, did you travel to the Divine Dimension to stop Rangda and save the future?" Alex asked.
I shook my head and replied: "No, there wasn't enough energy left in the Zeto crystal for both travelling to the Divine Dimension and saving your life. I chose love over duty."
"So you sacrificed the future, to save me? You shouldn't have…", Alex said solemnly.
"No, the crystal will recharge, and I will get more chances to fulfil my destiny later. But I only had one chance to save you." I said and kissed Alex passionately.
Our passionate kiss was interrupted when a nearby explosion rattled the Sun Pyramid. "The war has come. We better get out of here!" I shouted, and we ran towards the exit. As we crawled out of the tunnel and reached the exit, we saw one of the World Bank's helicopters, ready to take off. The pilot looked apprehensive; he was eager to take off but was unwilling to leave his boss behind. I pulled up a pistol and was ready to engage the pilot when I felt Alex's hand on my shoulder. "No more killing, Sabina." He whispered gently in my ears.
"Not if I can avoid it," I replied, comforted that Alex was still the good-hearted person who I had always loved. Alex always wanted to avoid bloodshed.
I snuck up on the helicopter and I entered the backdoor stealthily. The pilot, who was waiting for Pierre and his guards, hadn't noticed me. I placed the pistol against the back of his head and yelled, "Don't move!"
"Who are you??" The pilot asked with a terrified voice.
"I am the person that your boss, Pierre, set out to kill. Don't repeat his mistake." I said with a chilling voice that scared myself.
"Please don't kill me. I got a family." The pilot replied.
"Good, follow my instructions, and you'll live. Try anything dumb, and I will pull the trigger. Understood?" I warned the pilot. The pilot nodded, and I spoke again, "Take us to Cuernavaca Airport."
The pilot agreed, and he flew us to Cuernavaca airport. On the way to the airport, I witnessed the bloodshed that the civil war had caused, and I regretted that I hadn't gone after Pierre Beaumont at an earlier stage.
